Cockacidel....I disagree...class is not important...common sense, education, and having the nouse to make money and look after yourself is. Giving people a stamp on their head of being a certain class is part of the problem. My father considered himself lower class, because he had it drummed into him that he was. He did extremely well, got a scholarship to a private school, and ended up in a really high ranking and high paid job. He insisted he was still lower class. It never left him. It's awful to be told you are this or that, so insisting class is important is the problem. In my father's Day, the poor left school at 13. Nowadays, education is free and of a good standard up to age 16/18. People can progress. You talk about upper class paying for education. So can a lot of people, if they chose to do so. You don't have to be upper class to do that. I don't consider myself to be any class. I work for a living, own my own house. I'm certainly not high class, and don't consider myself to be middle or lower. I do spend money in extra tuition for my children. Because I choose to do so. I work with a lot of lower paid people than me. They do have some spare income. They may choose to spend it on holidays or clothes or fags....or they could spend it on tuition too. You say the rich can use their contacts to get their children into high paid careers....so could a lot of people. Calling people lower, middle or high class really is old fashioned, stifling, and rude.
