My DS 3 just said "fuck sake"

I actually feel like the worst mother in the world.

Please cheer me up and tell me other things your children have said/done that's made you cringe.

Also, how do you get them to stop saying it???

DS stands up from successful potty session, points to his chest and announces "pisser". He's doing rather less well with his speech development than his potty training and is asking for a sticker.

I work with children and have often heard swearing - depending on how it is used, our reaction to it differs. If it is a young child and it doesn't seem they understand it, we ignore it the first time rather than draw attention to it. If it is being used directed at somebody we name it and say it is not acceptable, e.g. (real example) "at school we do not call anybody a fucking bitch because it is unkind"

My favourite was when a boy was running and looking back over his shoulder, ran in to and fell on the pop up tent we used as a reading den in the garden, totally flattening it. Just heard this little voice from inside "fuuucking hell!!!". It was such perfect context I creased and had to pretend I hadn't heard because I knew I couldn't keep a straight face to talk about it!

Someone I knew years ago was at church with her toddler DD, waiting through a service to then talk to the vicar about her younger DDs christening. Toddler DD chose that time in a quiet church to be the first time she swore, and shouted OH SHIT!!! at the top of her voice. Don't worry OP, at least it wasn't in church Grin
Love Gingham's fuck/fork retraining!

Yes yes Flowers, we shouldn't swear, indeed. But I do have to take issue with you about there being 'no need'. I actually never used to swear, found it quite offensive. Then I had a child ... I swear all the time now because life is a lot more stressful!

First time my DD came out with something, she was doing a jigsaw puzzle with her grandpa. Got stuck at one point and muttered 'blimming fuck!' He just raised his eyebrows :) Now age 6 she gets furious if I swear, tells me I'm setting a bad example for her.

Not ds but his friend (aged 12) who was looking at my new phone. His verdict - 'fuuuck, you must be rich!'. It wasn't even a fancy phone.

Me, aged 5. "OH FUCK IT!"

Mum, ever the sensible one, sat me down for a chat. I recall this vividly as it was at a time when the evening newspaper was a broad sheet and my Dad was hiding behind it, I could see it shaking with what I now know was laughter but then thought was anger.

Mum decided that now was the time for me to list all the swear words I knew to clear the air. I refused to say it as it was worse than Fuck. Give me a clue says Mum, what does it begin with? 'C' I reply. I can see her face get very serious indeed and she convinces me to say it, just this once.....

Well, who knew Chicken wasn't a swear word at that age? Grin

Yika: Then I had a child ... I swear all the time now because life is a lot more stressful!

Then maybe find other ways to manage your stress?

6-Year-Old Who Said “Fuck” Must Have Learned It At School, Claim Parents

"We managed six whole years without him hearing a single swear word,” said Sheila, who intends to press charges.

Told this on here before, but when DS was about 3, he dropped a 2 litre bottle of Diet coke on my foot. It really hurt, so after hopping around a bit I said to DS "That really hurt! What do you say?"

"Oh bollocks!"

passmethewineplease · 15/08/2017 06:09

There's always one.. Hmm

My sister swore when she was little, my dad was asking where his clothes were and my younger sister said on the bed dad but don't mess them up because mum will bollock you. Blush
