Loon pants, cheesecloth shirts, Afghan coat...then later on very tight jeans I had to lie down on the floor to get on and my dad would pull the zip up with a coat hanger.

Bodysuits
Baggy jeans
Black leather belt with chunky daisy buckle
Floaty skirts
Embroidered waistcoats
Flowy silk shirts
Doc Martens (still have and wear the same ones now, 25 years later!)
Velvet floppy hat with lace and rose in the middle
Denim jacket
Long black pinafore dress

I remember the wicker baskets for school (with snazzy plastic cover thing, which didn't really work due to the gap for the handle, so everything got soaked regularly!) Also Max Factor strawberry lip potion was a "thing" at school (late 70's) along with very long scarves (thanks to Tom Baker's Dr. Who). My mum could knit and sew, so I always ended up with her home-made versions of what the cool kids were wearing. What I wore was not cool. Grin

Fishnet tights under low rise ripped skinny jeans, and crop tops.

So unbelievably awful that I've had to attach a photo Blush

Alternatively fishnet tops (totally visible bra) and baggy jeans and vans, a fishnet too with a mini skirt and combat boots.

I even had a fishnet hoodie!! Definitely think I kept the fishnet industry alive

Photo is not me and for illustration purposes only

These were more my style icons.
I had stripy jeans, black leather jacket, permed hair, often with blue/black to go with the natural blonde, and wore scarves/studded belts & bracelets/bangles/leather bracelets etc.

At one point I wore so many bangles that I had no hairs on my lower arms.

80's & 90's anything Madonna wore I wore it! My Dad got me into Madonna and that totally backfired on him because I wanted anything & everything to do with Madonna. Must have cost him & my mum a fortune.

ThinkOfTheHorses · 30/07/2017 21:13

I owned a pair of triple platform converse shoes BlushBlush
Also disco pants, RaRa shirts , peasant blouses ... and multicoloured eyeliner

OhSoggyBiscuit · 30/07/2017 21:57

I liked long swishy skirts when I was young, but as a teen had a very boring fashion sense usually comprising of t-shirts and sweatpants or jeans.

RubbishMantra · 30/07/2017 22:01

Yup, I thought Bros were the epitome of style Violet! [embarrassed] And Curiosity Killed the Cat, with their smooth jazz funk for tweens...

myusernamewhichisthis · 30/07/2017 22:07

jump suits!

NotMeNoNo · 30/07/2017 22:12

Everything huge. Pinafore, dungarees, sweatshirts, jumpers, mens shirts from charity shops. Then a goth phase with side laced trousers and black suede boots. Long skirts with a fringe or petticoat showing. Boxy drop waist dresses. I miss it all!

PissedOffNeighbour · 01/08/2017 15:36

My DD (15) has just bought a "retro" jacket from a "vintage" charity shop. And yes it's the jacket part of a nylon shell suit. Shiny white, purple and green.

AccioWine · 01/08/2017 15:43

Some of you sound positively stylish!! Some of my slightly dodgy fashion moments:

Pink, yellow & green shell suit
Stonewashed jeans & demin shirt
Body (with poppers that always undid!)
Drop waisted dresses
Crimped hair

But what I really really wanted was to be Blossom! Those hats, I would have killed for those hats...

heron98 · 01/08/2017 16:09

I had a brown cordoroy hat which I thought made me look quirky and Parisian. Looking back, I looked like a twat.
