Black and white combat trousers from the army surplus store with a lime green Tammy Girl crop top.

A pink and white checked mini dress with chunky heeled white canvas lace up tennis shoes in a vague Baby Spice style.

Bootcut jeans that dragged under my shoes and soaked up every puddle going.

EBearhug · 30/07/2017 10:42

I loved my pixie boots! Wasn't allowed a Ra-Ra skirt, and didn't have enough money of my own. I was quite jealous of my friend Claire's, which was white with giant yellow spots. Wasn't allowed a reversible sweatshirt, either. But we did have a series of batwing mohair jumpers with large coloured spots, often knitted with Oddpins (one large and one normal needle), because Mum was a knitter. I had a lovely baggy red jumper in fisherman's rib, too.

I also loved baggy dungarees like Bananarama.

I wore my neon socks on DofE expeditions, on the grounds we could wave them in case of emergency. Fortunately I never had to test the efficacy of this theory.

EBearhug · 30/07/2017 10:43

Grandad collar shirts. And shirts with a large check pattern, pink, or grey.

LadyFlumpalot · 30/07/2017 10:45

Ooooh hair mascara! Anyone else remember hair mascara? A really tight ponytail with two ramrod straight glued-together-with-blue-muck bits banging against your face?

Bigoldsupermoon · 30/07/2017 10:50

Ladyflumpalot Paired with one-hair-thin sperm eyebrows glued down with clear mascara... 🙈

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 30/07/2017 10:50

Omg Ebear I'd totally forgotten about batwings!

wump · 30/07/2017 10:54

Velvet jeans... black, navy or burgundy the height classy glamorous fashion.

Henrythehoover · 30/07/2017 11:07

I remember hair mascara also remember the spray stuff. Also spice girl impulse, union Jack t-shirts and I really wanted those jogging bottoms that had the poppers up the sides. I was too short and fat to fit them.

SpottedGingham · 30/07/2017 11:27

Anyone remember the picture jumpers?

ememem84 · 30/07/2017 11:30

My fave outfit from the 90's when I was around 9/10 was:

Long flouncy skirt, dessert boots or dms, white body suit, either denim or pink plaid shirt undone but tied up and my blossom hat. Still have that hat. Bloody loved it.

Then I moved on to platform trainers, "octopus" trousers (cargo pants with the tassley bits) crop tops (a la all saints) hair poker straight, chokers etc.

SpottedGingham · 30/07/2017 11:32

This sort of thing!

I did have a Ra-ra skirt hand made by my mum - it was ripped off me by a gibbon at Chester Zoo!

In the late 80's I tended to wear vintage - mainly due to being skint and shopping in jumble sales - I rocked 1950's cocktail frocks

Fluffyears · 30/07/2017 11:52

Oh god as a young child I coveted a ra-ra skirt so much I begged and pleaded but never got it.

wineusuallyhelps · 30/07/2017 11:52

This is hilarious!

I die a bit when I remember I wore:

A polka-dot short, full skirt with one of those 'cummerbund' (sp?) stretchy black belts. With 3/4 length leggings. Madonna. Not.

A mini gingham skirt with a skin-tight black body...legs and boobs on show at the same time. Classy.

Fruit of the Loom t shirt over white cycling shorts. Probably didn't even wear a thong. If they existed then.

Confused
DollyPartonsBeard · 30/07/2017 12:06

EBearhug I'd totally forgotten about Odd pins! I was a teenage goth so had several variations of mohair sweaters made with Oddpins. I left a trail of black fluff in my wake!

2ducks2ducklings · 30/07/2017 12:21

I remember white daisy dukes over thick black tights with white slouch socks over the top (artfully slouched, of course). Plus the canvas platform boots.
I also had loads of sweater shop and Benetton sweaters as these were very 'in' at my primary school.
I remember the floppy Blossom hats. I even bought hat pins for them.
Then as a teenager, I had the popper tracksuit bottoms and the kappa tracksuit. Christ, what a state!
I also, at about 16 bought a t shirt off the market that said 'I love shagging' on it. I still can't forgive my mom for letting me leave the house with that on. I actually judge her. She wouldn't let me have my ears pierced a second time but I was allowed to wear a t shirt that basically announced I was a whore! ( I really wasn't a whore, I was a very good girl in that respect, but still!). I'm mortified at that t shirt more than any other abomination I've worn.

Veronicat · 30/07/2017 12:24

Why did we have to wear mismatched neon socks and gloves. I remember it being the rule.
One pink, one yellow with black tights, black skirt and if you were really cool, a neon top .

bertsdinner · 30/07/2017 12:38

I had a ra ra skirt, a holey T shirt which was called a tea bag t shirt, and a burgundy tank top. May have had white court shoes.
THE hair cut was either a "perm on top", ie short hair with literally the top permed, or dyed burgundy with a bleached fringe. Mercifully, I wasnt allowed either.

Violetcharlotte · 30/07/2017 12:38

Ski pants with a reversible sweatshirt with a picture of a cartoon character.
Dungarees
Baggy fared jeans with turn ups with a hoodie
Shell suits
Denim shirt
Paisley print shirt
Kickers
DMs
Black bomber jacket with lots of tiny pop star badges
Bermuda shorts with crop tops
Cut off denim shorts

Violetcharlotte · 30/07/2017 12:41

I was an older teen in the 'grunge' era so lots of long layered skirts with a baggy jumper, velvet jackets and DMs. Laddered tights. Tie die dresses. Loads of stuff tied round my wrists - scarf, bits of leather, etc. Lots of beads.

RubbishMantra · 30/07/2017 13:07

You've reminded me of the Black Bomber of Crap Violet. Except I got a bit enthusiastic and would pin any old random shite I could find onto it. My DMs got the same treatment, so I probably clattered along sounding like a one man band.

Violetcharlotte · 30/07/2017 13:39

Like this Mantra?

Where you a Brosette too perchance? Smile
