Black, black and more black! With cherry red 8-hole DMs Grin

floatmygoat · 30/07/2017 09:32

Crushed velvet skirt and hat (it looked a bit like something Dr. Seuss would wear) and Docs. I remember there being a phase of everyone at school wearing fruit of the loom sweatshirts but I didn't own one Envy

RubbishMantra · 30/07/2017 09:37

Has anyone mentioned leg warmers yet? Squished artfully down the leg into a pixie boot, or in pink to co-ordinate with my pink and grey trainers.
Crispy hair
Sparkly blue eyeliner
BRIGHT blue or purple mascara
Pink pearlised lipstick
Christian Dior Poison or Giorgio Beverly Hills perfume
Freeman Hardy and Willis shoes

DimsieMaitland · 30/07/2017 09:40

At university: crushed velvet tie-dye jacket with peplum, with a black skirt with uneven hem lines; denim shorts over black tights, and pastel fine knit cardigans (buttoned up) with no t-shirt etc underneath - I had a lovely lilac one. To be fair the latter fashion seemed limited to my university as when I got home nobody else was dressed like that. My sister laughed. A lot.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 30/07/2017 09:43

I had a pair of blue pastel 'textured' ski pants - hard to describe, but the material was sort of bumpy and gathered? LOVED them. DM has a pic - I look like my legs have been melted in a blue fire. Wore with a pale blue blazer (no such thing as too matchy-matchy in the 80s). All from Tammy Girl, fashion emporium of choice...

redfragglebiker · 30/07/2017 09:43

@n0ne I adored my cherry reds! And YY to the PP who mentioned lots of velvet! I vaguely remember big floppy velvet hat (very Blossomesque for those that remember)

2ducks2ducklings · 30/07/2017 09:44

bigoldsupermoon - we must be from the same era. Our whole family used to wear shell suits. The static electricity we caused as we walked through town was quite a hazard at times!

FoofFighter · 30/07/2017 09:45

Steel grey fishtail skirt worn with an oversized white satin blouse, wide elastic butterfly clip belt, jewelled brooch at the neck of blouse. Pink stillettoes and white ankle socks Blush

Also nobody seems to mention these on threads like this: puffy white sweatshirts with Disney on or those big eyed sad puppies, that were reversible.

FoofFighter · 30/07/2017 09:46

And wicker picnic hamper style bags for school

Bigoldsupermoon · 30/07/2017 09:46

2ducks 😂😂😂 I remember community bonfires in that era: swathes of pastel people rustling nervously min. 40ft from the fire...

coldcanary · 30/07/2017 09:47

The things I did to my hair were appalling in hindsight!
Banan clips - just said on the other thread that I looked like I had a horses mane down the back of my head!
Godawful cheap perm as soon as I left primary school.
Went through a phase of putting a hairband in and pushing my fringe as upright and high as I could possibly get it then spraying it with hairspray until it was rock solid.
Coupled with puffball skirts and as much neon as I could get my hands on I must have been a delight to look at! Grin

Serialweightwatcher · 30/07/2017 09:48

I was a teen in the 80s - wore tight cords and flying jackets from Army and Navy Stores - used to have to lie down in cubicle to get them on and two friends had to hoik me up from the floor ... I had a black jumpsuit that I lived in from Young Yorkshire and white cowboy ankle boots with tassels from Miss Selfridge ... or we wore kickers with tons of the suede flowers on - my friend must have had about 20 flowers on hers and not a clue where she got them from. Then progressed to huge mohair jumpers with skintight jeans (had to take them in myself, badly) and everything with shoulder pads Grin

Anasnake · 30/07/2017 09:48

I had a reversible dalmatians one Foo ! Also Campri ski jackets and jeans with patches or pictures on them - my friend had Fred Flintstone jeans, I was v. Jealous c.1988

MOIST · 30/07/2017 09:49

Pastels and stonewash tight jeans.

Then I discovered black. And grunge.

MumBod · 30/07/2017 09:50

Tie dye leggings.
DMs with rainbow tie dye laces.
Black leggings under Daisy Dukes.
My dad's old leather blazer.
Black t-shirts with everything, particularly long flowered skirts.
Ethnic clothes from an Indian boutique called Rich Rags - I was a practically transparent ginger kid - about as opposite to exotically ethnic as it was possible to be Grin
Band t-shirts - Cure, Jim Morrison, Pixies were my favourites.
A tiny green jersey mini-skirt that I got for 99p in Clockhouse. I wore it with black opaques and DMs.
A ginger suede jacket I got from a vintage store. It came complete with sweat stains on the lining.
A blue striped linen grandad shirt.
A black onesie.
A denim jacket.
Love beads and a mood ring.
A green suede waistcoat I nicked off my Mum.

Serialweightwatcher · 30/07/2017 09:51

RubbishMantra I forgot about Poison - I was obsessed with it but everyone else hated the smell Sad ... I ended up having a shoe box full of the empty bottles of all sizes - can still smell it now in my imagination Grin ... and I used to wear leg warmers in bed on legs and arms when it was cold

Anasnake · 30/07/2017 09:54

Anais Anais and Lou Lou - made me sneeze
White musk/fuzzy peach/ananya from the Body Shop

redfragglebiker · 30/07/2017 10:09

Has anyone mentioned Heather/Coffee shimmer lipstick yet?

RubbishMantra · 30/07/2017 10:12

I used to go into Boots and spray myself head to toe in the stuff, Serial!

Ooh, and you've just reminded me of all those strong fruity scents from the Bodyshop, Anasnake. Fuzzy Peach firm favourite. Smells are very evocative. I now have the urge to go to Boots and have a good old dousing. Then the inevitable chemical induced headache to follow...

RubbishMantra · 30/07/2017 10:14

...and try on many pastel shimmery shades from the "17" make up collection whilst I'm there. Grin

Floellabumbags · 30/07/2017 10:19

Constance Carroll lipstick from the market.

Everything was neon with black. I think for much of the time I looked like a bumblebee.

Henrythehoover · 30/07/2017 10:24

I was an 80s baby so:
Scrunchies
Shell suits
Those awful t-shirts that changed colour when you touched them (showed sweat patches)
Plastic dummy necklaces
Mood rings
Floppy velvet hats (like blossom)
Tie dye
Far willy clothing
Kappa

MsHooliesCardigan · 30/07/2017 10:26

I am so glad someone remembers the jeans with the piping. I have asked so many of my friends if they remember them and they just stare at me like this Confused I was honestly beginning to think it was a delusional memory. And do people remember the boogie belts that went with them?

PissedOffNeighbour · 30/07/2017 10:36

I remember the jeans with piping but didn't have any even though I desperately wanted some. I did have the belt though in bright pink. It used to dangle down at the front.

I used to love cherry lipgloss with my bright blue eyeliner and mascara Blush

ShelaghTurner · 30/07/2017 10:40

OMG. Yep, every single one of these. Supplemented with plenty of Benetton, Dash, Pineapple and brightly coloured patterned tights. I looked bloody marvellous Grin
