Just that really, taking the kids to see Captain Underpants at the cinema this afternoon and am wondering if I can read a book using the kindle app on my phone? Or will the light annoy people? I would still have it turned off so it won't ring or anything.

My youngest is only 5 so I feel he's still a bit small to sit in the cinema without an adult while I sit in the cafe in the foyer, which would have been my number one choice.

StiickEmUp · 31/07/2017 08:54

Distracting ? Can't people do 2 things at fucking once Shock

StiickEmUp · 31/07/2017 08:55

Someone said SUFFERING on this thread

Grin

I needed cheering up

tigercub50 · 31/07/2017 08:57

I love kids films! One of the good things about being a parent is having an excuse to watch them!

Hudson10 · 31/07/2017 09:24

Are you really that self absorbed and unaware?!! OF COURSE it willannoy people!
When you're in a dark cinema, and you're trying to watch a film but all you can focus on is the twat person with their phone glowing like a beacon, it's bloody distracting!
If the film bores you that much and you can't sit through it, tell your kids you'll get it out on dvd or get someone else to take them.

Gromance02 · 31/07/2017 09:35

People like the OP are the reason I haven't been to the cinema for about 10 years.

hmcAsWas · 31/07/2017 09:37

Don't be too hard on the OP Gromance, she said about 10 posts into this thread that - Okay, comments noted and she wouldn't do it then

Just been through all the thread and seen OP has seen the light (no pun intended Grin
So many more self absorbed idiots on the thread though who it does apply to!
As for the knitting - words fail me. If someone was clacking their needles behind me, take note of the lady sat in front of you with steam coming out of her ears as she'll be using every ounce of self restraint not to turn round and ram your needles up your nostril!
WTF goes through people's heads? If the cinema's that crap you have to do your knitting or fart around on your phone, why bother spending a fortune to go?
Get it out on dvd. When all tickets and snacks included comes to approx £40, it's a rare treat.
Stay at home if you dislike it that much.

Thehappygardener · 31/07/2017 11:21

On another site, someone put up a picture of the very healthy dinner she was taking with her into Dunkirk. Was pretty surprised that people think it's acceptable to take a whole meal in with them .... not sure if more or less annoying than sitting next to someone reading on their Kindle or phone!

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 31/07/2017 11:24

Going to the cinema is expensive. Why should anyone have to have their attention drawn away by selfish idiots?

Hudson10 · 31/07/2017 11:52

Exactly. If you're sat watching a film and you're in the moment watching it, when some idiot lights their phone up it's damn near impossible to ignore as it distracts you and diverts your attention away from the film, ruining it.
Some people are just too selfish/self absorbed to care, I suppose.

Belle1616 · 31/07/2017 12:10

Very bad manners and annoying.

Riversleep · 31/07/2017 12:12

six I go to the LIAF shorts whenever they are on. They are great. The kids love doing the voting at the end. Definitely no phones being lit up there!
There was a woman in Captain Underpants who kept taking her phone out of her bag to check god knows what. It's more irritating then. It just keeps catching your eye then going away. I agree. if you dont want to sit in the cinema, tell your kids they can wait for the DVD. It cost me | #17 to take 2 kids to the cinema, not to mention the added popcorn and drink. And that is the cheapy independent cinema.

StiickEmUp · 31/07/2017 13:11

If you can't afford to interact with other people as the cinema is a late public place, and ignore a couple of phones then maybe you should rethink priorities

Hudson10 · 31/07/2017 13:20

Eh? Is that supposed to make sense as it's pretty garbled. Confused

ShelaghTurner · 31/07/2017 13:22

I’ve just come out of the cinema and I did look at my phone. I had a couple of work things to respond to and the cinema was mostly empty with anyone else miles away and in front of me. I did think of this thread and feel very rebellious though Wink. I did set it to black screen and I could hardly see it!

On a related note, Despicable Me 3 is shite! Grin

ShelaghTurner · 31/07/2017 13:22

Oh and I was in the posh seats with the high backs!

Hudson10 · 31/07/2017 13:26

Despicable Me 3 is shite!

Well, that just shows you usually talk shite as I went last week and loved it! Smile

ShelaghTurner · 31/07/2017 13:32

Grin Oh I hated it! Usually I don’t mind kids’ films too much, especially if they stick some good music in, and I did like the 80s music in this but the film... 😴 Kids loved it though.

GrumpyOldFucker · 31/07/2017 13:46

Would annoy me, as would chomping on popcorn, chatting and unnecessary breathing.

BishopBrennansArse · 31/07/2017 14:00

When on my respite visits to the cinema I take my thick fleece lined hooded jacket. Then if our family PA texts me about something that needs dealing with I put the jacket over my head and read and respond under the jacket. No light leak.

Otherwise the phone stays away.

chronicleink · 31/07/2017 14:32

Don't be an arse! Of course the light will bother people. Suck it up or have a nap in the cinema.

Mumtotwobs · 31/07/2017 15:47

I feel like such a dastardly cinema rebel now! although the more I see the stuff MN posters say I do feel that most of you on here have never put one foot wrong in their lives EVER! IMO there are far worse things to do in life than bend a rule and in doing so not upsetting anyone in the process. And I can't actually say I'm bothered or even feel much like an ignorant and self absorbed arsehole but hey ho I'll live. Sticks and stones and all that. Grin

I might invest in the fleecy hoodie thing now though just in case I dare to visit the cinema and get lynched by the MN perfect parenting mafia for trying to juggle a uni course and two deserving kids! ShockHmmBlush! You'll find me on the back row huddled under said hoodie with my DC's by my side (being ignored apparently) and holding my kindle if you want to have a dig!
