To think that there should be laws about leggings?

Just reading to my DD in the library. Mum with similar aged daughter is wearing black leggings. I say black but in fact they are closer to a little bit opaque, only a little mind. She is not wearing underwear. She is basically naked from the waist down, sitting four feet from me with her legs open whilst her dd sits on the floor listening to her read. I'm not even sure that they are leggings, they might be tights, they certainly couldn't be any tighter. I feel like I am being presented with a view that should be reserved for gynecologists, midwives and lovers.

OP posts:

Yea I wear leggings but as tights as opposed to alone. How grim to see that in a library 📚

belmontian · 29/07/2017 10:36

OP we either live near each other or there are more women running around unawares. I was enjoying a naice picnic in the park en famille when said woman who I assumed was wearing footless tights as they were translucent was continually bending over to attend to a puppy, revealing the contents of her buttocks. There is no way she could have not realized they were completely see through so perhaps this is a new 'thing?'

Horrible thread I am overweight but working on it. I like leggings. I don't give a flying fuck if you don't.

ShelaghTurner · 29/07/2017 10:48

‘Fat Woman on Bike’ shocker. That didn’t take long.... Fucking hell Hmm

People should wear whatever the fuck they like. Wind you neck in or don’t look, it’s very easy. And anyone starting threads or commenting negatively on other people’s sartorial choices should be required to post a picture of themselves so we can all judge.

robinsongyal · 29/07/2017 10:48

I wear wet-look black leggings that in no way can you see the crotch/knickers through them, then again I pay abit extra for them cus they look nice and are very comfy. Oh and I wear them without anything over the top covering them, sorry disapproving ladies I work out hard to maintain my figure and so what if I don't have a problem showing you the curvature of my bum...like really 🙄🙄🙌

13Bastards · 29/07/2017 10:58

What's with the body shaming?

If you want wear leggings- crack on. If you are happy for people to see your fanjo, arse, awful pants or pubes then why should anyone else care.

Floggingmolly · 29/07/2017 11:01

It's a bit disengenuous to say "just don't look at what other people are wearing", isn't it?
There's an entire board called style and beauty on here where people post photos asking "can I wear this?" and others shriek "God, no! That colour is so last week!! You could never show your face in the tennis club again!" on the presumption that people do actually notice and will comment on what you wear.
You don't have to care, of course, but imagining wearing see through leggings will not get you noticed is ridiculous.
It's a statement, even if the statement is Fuck you, look at how edgy I am...
Otherwise we'd all wear sacks and the designers would lose billions.

nina2b · 29/07/2017 11:06

Leggings are truly awful. I have never worn them with it without cover-ups. Do people still wear dresses on top of them? Dislike that particularly.

noeffingidea · 29/07/2017 11:10

If you are happy for other people to see your fanjo, arse... or pubes, then why should anyone else care
Because many people don't want to see random people's arses, fanjo's, etc when they are out and about in the library with their kids for instance. Hence the term 'private parts'. There are actually laws or bye laws covering this kind of thing. It's called 'common decency'.

PastysPrincess · 29/07/2017 11:10

I was once behind a lady in a zumba class who was wearing very thin leggings and a red thong. It was a very full class and no where to move to.

PiratePanda · 29/07/2017 11:15

There are an awful lot of people on here who do not seem to have RTFT. This is not an all-out attack on leggings; probably 80-90% of us own a pair (TBF I only own jeggings, because I don't like leggings but each to her own.)

This is about a woman wearing something that clearly displays her vulva, vagina, and anus in a public place where there are children present. As @noeffingidea says, there are laws against this (not to mention it being just plain gross).

ShelaghTurner · 29/07/2017 11:21

It isn’t really. I’m short so arguably more on a level with arses and fannies than a lot of you. But never once have I noticed anyone’s arse crack or flaps because I’m just not looking down there. And if I did, well, shrug. Not mine so I’m not bothered. That’s not to say I think they should be on show, of course not.

I was more bothered by the usual fat chick comments. And this ridiculous notion that Person A shouldn’t wear Item 1 because it looks better on Person B. Or because it’s 20 seconds out of date. The whole thing is a farce. S&B has two camps: the ones that want to acheive a certain look and want advice on how to do that. Fine. And the ones that like to judge what everyone else is wearing.

Yes this stuff matters to me. People should be able to feel comfortable leaving their own front door. Worry about what you look like, not what other people are wearing.

13Bastards · 29/07/2017 11:34

Meh, I just can't get worked up about it TBH.

DesperatelySeekingSushi · 29/07/2017 11:50

Clearly she had an interview for library play worker to get to...

mummmy2017 · 29/07/2017 12:09

I so love how when we post something we have seen someone wear, we get called all the names under the sun.
Why is it wrong to not want to see underwear, bra straps are fine.
Once we saw someone who's jeans were laced together as zip had broken, being winked at is not fun..

ShelaghTurner · 29/07/2017 13:29

Because it wasn’t just limited to ‘oh I can see this woman’s fanny’ it became ‘I once had to look at a fat arse on a bike’ and the like. Bollocks to that sort of attitude.

Gemini69 · 29/07/2017 17:12

I honestly do not believe people wear leggings intentionally 'see through' .. infact.. I think manufacturers are treating us like fools.. in producing an article that appears to be nice quality.. only to discover after purchasing and wearing them.. that they are see through... companies ripping people off ...

Shame on THEM

dairymilkmonster · 29/07/2017 17:54

I wear leggings frequently, usually with a tunic or dress. I always wear knickers no matter what else I am wearing - well, except when in the swimming pool, when I wear a swimming costume! I threw out one pair when they got thin and I was concerned re see through ness. Most people wearing leggings don't have see through ones.

Girls in dresses and knickers got wonky/no knickers - frequent sight - doesn't really bother me though!

Gemini69 · 29/07/2017 20:22

I must be different.. I wear my black leggings with knee high or ankle boots and a polo neck jumper.. all black.. I LOVE Jenny Leggings though.. fleece lined and very thick and warm.. this is a definite autumn/winter fave Grin

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 29/07/2017 20:37

nina yes! People do still wear dresses over leggings, I see it lots .... and I don't know why either

specialsubject · 29/07/2017 20:52

Convention in the UK is that certain body parts are not shown in public. Shape, yes. But semi transparent or more is not on.

Following an arse in tight clothes isn't pretty but not pretty isn't illegal.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/07/2017 20:54

Well - I wear a dress over leggings because I like it - it is comfortable, and allows me to wear shorter dresses than I normally do. I have a friend who dresses like this a lot, and I think she looks great - I'd never think I look great myself, but family and friends have told me I look nice dressed like this.

I can understand someone not liking a particular fashion - but I am baffled by the thought that you can't work out why someone might choose a particular style of clothing - surely it's obvious - because they like it, and thinkmit looks good on them.

nina2b · 29/07/2017 21:02

It must get hot.

Timefortea99 · 29/07/2017 21:04

I had a black see through long sleeved top which I always wore a black vest top under.

I went on holiday once and grabbed it to wear on the first night to go to dinner after a long journey, mainly because it did not need ironing. Halfway through the meal I realised I had not worn the vest top, so I was basically sitting there in a bra. Mortification! When I hissed at DH for not telling me, he had not even noticed. He then started laughing hysterically. It was a very quick meal and a fast sprint back to hotel....

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 30/07/2017 13:11

@nina2b - I live in Scotland - there aren't that many days of the year when I don't want to stay warm!
