DH has asked that I ask if I am BU in thinking that just cos I love coffee and it's my birthday in 2 weeks that coffee maker is suitable birthday present from him? I was buying the €99 one as it's reduced to €70 with free froather when you buy pods for the 'house'.

I said that it's relevant if it's a luxury appliance it's still IMO a kitchen appliance & not a gift for me!
I liked it to me buying him a nice teapot cos he like s tea 😀

So is he right? Please be gentle!

Perfect present for me. As it stands I hinted for years I wanted one then bought it myself a couple of months ago because it was obvious I was never getting it as a present!

Mumsnut · 28/07/2017 15:31

Suggest if its that good a present, you get it for his birthday ...

bootygirl · 28/07/2017 16:06

mumsnut I did suggest I buy him the power washer he wanted! He was nt impressed!

Perfectly acceptable gift. It's something you'll enjoy, which is the point.

GinaFordCortina · 28/07/2017 18:25

Mumsnut has got it all figured out!

I agree that replacing a household item you already own that is broken is not a gift. I think I posted above about the mower I was due to get for my 30th "because we need a new one". Not a gift for me at all!

I bought DP a bean to cup coffee machine a few years back as a birthday present and he was very very happy.

Didiplanthis · 02/08/2017 13:30

I got a Dyson cord free for my 40th - I love it and it has revolutionised my world !! ( I have really bad back before anyone thinks that is excessive ! ) we love getting 'luxury' stuff like that for each other. Bought DH a chainsaw for his ! Neither strictly necessary but lovely to have. Can't justify buying otherwise.

Bumpsadaisie · 02/08/2017 13:54

What is this "appliances can't be gifts" thing?

I've had a nespresso machine and a dyson cordless stick in the past, both of which I LOVED.

PyongyangKipperbang · 02/08/2017 14:15

They can be gifts Bump if they are something that the reciever wants and wouldnt otherwise have/buy.

They are not gifts when they are a pre-agreed replacement for an appliance already owned by the family that has broken! If your washing machine was kapput, would you consider its replacement to be your birthday present?

bootygirl · 02/08/2017 14:52

pyong that was exactly the point I was making to DH when he suggested it. bump It's broken and something we're replacing. Also we do household luxury items as our anniversary 'present' not for birthdays....
For those who said I was grabby the things I asked for on the list (requested by DH) books €20 for 2. €35 massage. Workshop I want to attend €35... not expecting all but any one of these I would love ❤️.

We ve ordered the basic machine as it's what we can afford and it's a great deal...

DH has bought me lot of kitchen gadgets over the years. A juicer, a blender, a food mixer. He uses all of these things when we juice together, make cocktails or he eats a cake I have baked. I loved all my presents.

If he bought me a mop or a Hoover I would go nuts, but I think that a coffee machine is a bit different.

Custardo · 02/08/2017 17:52

seems you have it sorted now but fwiw - op i'm on your side

i want either somethng that will give me a nice memory ( such as the walk you suggested)
