Parking wars - on my own drive !

I know the rules, diagram is attached. 😉

I'm on half days this week and have just got home to find a car in my driveway. As we are a corner house we have two driveways, big enough for one car each. Parking is really tight around here and permit only too. Opposite us is 8 terraced houses with no allocated parking, so quite often they either park in their garages or in the handful or visitor bays opposite my place but in front of theirs. My front drive is VERY clearly my driveway.

Cheeky Fucker Neighbour (CFN) runs a business from home which involves a lot of clients coming and going from her house throughout the day (pet groomer) and he employs two people to help.

I came home today to find a car in my drive which was not DHs. So I park down the side (pink section) of the house on the road where neighbours park their cars. I go and knock on several doors to find out who it belongs too, turns out it's one of the employees who is staying for a little while longer (P/T). "But I'll only be another hour, so I'll move it then." I reply "No, move it now please as I have to unload my car." Person refuses and I end up leaving telling them to move it within 30 minutes.

That was an hour ago and when I knock on the door there is no answer.

My next door neighbour has just told me that this car is on either my front drive or rear drive each morning ! When he questioned them about it, apparently CFN has said it's OK for them to park there and they have cleared it with us. No they bloody haven't!

Thing is this went on last year but after words it sooner stopped but obviously they are doing it again.

I'm sat here glaring out my front window waiting for the fucker to move his car then we will have words. I would block it in, but the road is only wide enough for one car so would block the road.

Yes cave not sure anyone can top this

SheSaidHeSaid · 27/07/2017 10:30

I hope the tyres were stolen by actual theives, wouldn't want the OP or an associate actually stealing them as that's worse than parking on someone's drive and actually illegal.

RozencrantzThe1st · 27/07/2017 10:30

I'm intrigued by these tyre thieves. Did the just steal the tyres or the whole wheel?

Fairenuff · 27/07/2017 10:31

Can't find it Wine. It was ages ago. I had a quick look in Classics and found this other one which is equally satisfying if you haven't read it already.

OP what did the neighbour say? Did they apologise at all?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 27/07/2017 10:32

You might think that, Wreck. We couldn't possibly comment . . .

There is no indication that OP or her DH did anything wrong.

They moved the temporary barrier to facilitate the car being reclaimed. They went to bed. They got up. The tyres were gone.

There is a history of tyre theft in the area. One can only draw the conclusion that the thieves returned, took three tyres, were disturbed before they got the fourth, and did off.

CFN's Parker did OP a favour - that could have been her car left without tyres as the thieves used the seclusion her drive to complete their nefarious task.

Bad,theives! I hope someone makesthemsit in the corner and think about what they have done.

Treble28 · 27/07/2017 10:32

Sorry. Data roaming hols so I missed the last update. Well done OP that's so unfortunate that the thieves struck again at yours. I'd may be have a word with your neighbourhood watch and inform all visitors that thieves operate in the area Wink

Bloody brilliant. Make sure to start thread number 2 OP we want to know more and this one is about to be full

cafenoirbiscuit · 27/07/2017 10:43

Oh no! Imagine the impact on CFN's business if there are reports on their Facebook or other social media page about how there's tyre thieves in the area, all employees and clients beware!

Such a shame.
Surely nobody would want to visit, lest it happens to them?
(Walks away, whistling innocently)

Lweji · 27/07/2017 10:43

It's only theft if there's an intention of not returning the items, isn't it?

You could also argue it was for safe keeping, just in case the tyre thieves returned.

onalongsabbatical · 27/07/2017 10:45

Colour coding is a gift from the gods. OP you're a star. Extra diagram, I'm ecstatic!

MyOtherProfile · 27/07/2017 10:49

I'm sure the OP wouldn't do such a thing. It would be madness to confess to a crime on a public forum that is likely to end up in the Daily Fail so of course we must all assume it was just one of life's crazy coincidences.

Runninglikeamummy · 27/07/2017 10:49

How do you take the tyres off?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 27/07/2017 10:50

No, OP clearly said there was an ongoing problem with tyre thieves in the area.

MummySparkle · 27/07/2017 10:51

Brilliant!! I was going to suggest calling the AA if they hadn't moved it and saying you'd lost your keys...

SoupDragon · 27/07/2017 10:51

Yes, OP took the tyres. I think that makes OP an actual tyre thief.

Except she didn't.

fairgame84 · 27/07/2017 10:51

Another diagram!
OP this is too much, you are spoiling us Blush

BillyDaveysDaughter · 27/07/2017 10:52

Presumably the wheels were removed, not just the tyres. If the car is old enough to have an inexplicably flat battery, it's old enough to not have locking wheel nuts (or maybe it's a common model and OPs DH had an adapter that was near enough).

Jack the car up, undo the wheel nuts, yank the wheel off, bosh.

BillyDaveysDaughter · 27/07/2017 10:54

OMG I meant THE THIEVES had a selection of locking wheel nut adapters.

Sorry, I shouldn't be allowed on these threads I'm hopeless.

iknowimcoming · 27/07/2017 10:55

OP - PLEASE START A NEW THREAD BEFORE THIS ONE FILLS UP - WE CANT MISS OUT ON THE UPDATES Blush

SchadenfreudePersonified · 27/07/2017 10:57

OP hasn't got the tyres.

The thieves have the tyres.

As Profile has stated - one of life's coincidences.

I think the thieves must regularly look around streets on their "patch", and any vehicle which is in a secluded place (and this one was hemmed in by another car left in the narrow road by a helpful neighbour) is fair game as far as they are concerned.

They would have felt pretty safe as the OP's hedge and home would have hidden their activities on three sides, and the neighbour's car on the fourth.

Who knows what disturbed them - a siren, a car alarm, a dog, a poor-sleeper taking a midnight walk - whatever - they only managed to take three tyres. Frustrating forth, I'm sure, but life is full of disappointments.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 27/07/2017 10:57

And coincidences.
