Parking wars - on my own drive !

I know the rules, diagram is attached. 😉

I'm on half days this week and have just got home to find a car in my driveway. As we are a corner house we have two driveways, big enough for one car each. Parking is really tight around here and permit only too. Opposite us is 8 terraced houses with no allocated parking, so quite often they either park in their garages or in the handful or visitor bays opposite my place but in front of theirs. My front drive is VERY clearly my driveway.

Cheeky Fucker Neighbour (CFN) runs a business from home which involves a lot of clients coming and going from her house throughout the day (pet groomer) and he employs two people to help.

I came home today to find a car in my drive which was not DHs. So I park down the side (pink section) of the house on the road where neighbours park their cars. I go and knock on several doors to find out who it belongs too, turns out it's one of the employees who is staying for a little while longer (P/T). "But I'll only be another hour, so I'll move it then." I reply "No, move it now please as I have to unload my car." Person refuses and I end up leaving telling them to move it within 30 minutes.

That was an hour ago and when I knock on the door there is no answer.

My next door neighbour has just told me that this car is on either my front drive or rear drive each morning ! When he questioned them about it, apparently CFN has said it's OK for them to park there and they have cleared it with us. No they bloody haven't!

Thing is this went on last year but after words it sooner stopped but obviously they are doing it again.

I'm sat here glaring out my front window waiting for the fucker to move his car then we will have words. I would block it in, but the road is only wide enough for one car so would block the road.

Has the owner used the darkness of night as cover?

(Nope, I'm not shamelessly place marking)

SheSaidHeSaid · 27/07/2017 09:24

I'd pay for someone to install a drop bollard on your drive today, whether the car is still there or not.

I can't believe the cheek of them.

WhatchaMaCalllit · 27/07/2017 09:27

You'll have to get a sign put up at the opening of your driveways OP, that state "Private Property. Access required 24hrs. Trespassers will be prosecuted" and print off flyers that you can nicely leave under the wiperblades of the customers and staff of this business stating that due to recent events, customers and staff of this business are no longer permitted to park on the driveway of Number X house, and state that no permission to park on this driveway was ever given in the first place, that CFN took it upon themselves to offer your driveway as their parking but it isn't possible.
Oh, and invest in a parking bollard shape of said bollard is entirely up to you Smile

stonecircle · 27/07/2017 09:29

Before you go to work could you tell CFN you will be back during the day and expect the car to be gone or you will phone the police?

JadziaSnax · 27/07/2017 09:29

AlphaBites · 27/07/2017 09:33

What did you do OP 😆

IHateUncleJamie · 27/07/2017 09:39

OP Police won't attend as it's private property but should advise you the following:

  1. Document everything you do.
  2. Contact (or try to) the owner of the vehicle - via CFN if necessary.
  3. Inform the owner that the vehicle is now being treated as "Abandoned" and owner has X hours/minutes to remove it from your property, otherwise the vehicle WILL be recovered and all fees relating to recovery and storage by recovery firm will be recovered at court.

If you can't get an answer at the door or on the business phone number, put it through the door and keep a copy.

You can move the car yourselves BUT you would be liable for any damage to the vehicle and you mustn't put the vehicle in a place that commits a traffic offence (i.e. in the middle of the road).

If all else fails then ask the Police to phone the Registered Owner and tell her to get it moved. Flat battery is no excuse - she can either buy a new battery, jump start it, or get the AA out.

👍

diddl · 27/07/2017 09:39

I don't think that strangers who have never used the business should leave poor reviews-but perhaps Op should point out that parking is not available on neighbours drive ways!

Although it only seems to be the employee that thinks that this is acceptable!

Dadstheworld · 27/07/2017 09:41

Removing air from Tyres isn't theft. You're not permanently depriving someone of Air. It certainly is interfering with a motor vehicle.

MrTrebus · 27/07/2017 09:42

WHAT DID YOU DO OP? WHAT DID YOU DO?? I AM SO EXCITED!

timeisnotaline · 27/07/2017 09:44

I want to know what you did too! And pat you on the back Smile

MiniMummy576 · 27/07/2017 09:45

ShockShockGrin What did you do? Please tell me you took a photo?!

On another note, from your updates it sounds like her business is causing a nuisance for a few of the neighbours and I'm pretty sure there's some sort of law/regulation about blocking people's parking/garages (I'm sure someone on MN will know exactly what it is). Can you club together with your neighbours and put in a mass complaint to the council? And keeping submitting complaints whenever something happens? The council might whack CFN with some sort of parking restriction.

astoundedgoat · 27/07/2017 09:46

Oooooh!! What did you do? Do you do the Evilkitten thing? I'm glad your DH finally saw -red- sense.
