It's also a good thing that Medicaid extensions are largely dependent on States, not the Federal government.
I am not overly familiar with the initial process, but I'd bet this was insisted upon by GOP. However, even GOP governors have expanded it, and the Federal Government have their hands tied. I bet they are kicking themselves.

Maybe this is what we need, let them take each other out rather than trying to look for a way to do it. Kind of like the rats in a barrel story - trap them in there long enough and they will turn on each other.
