.@POTUS: "With the exception of the late, great Abraham Lincoln, I can be more presidential than any president that's ever held this office"

Lordy. We can certainly add that porker to his list of lies!

TheClaws · 26/07/2017 01:34

*Rousette - QUOTE OF THE DAY

"I go to Washington and I see all these politicians, and I see the swamp, and it's not a good place. In fact, today, I said we ought to change it from the word 'swamp' to the word 'cesspool' or perhaps to the word 'sewer.'" -- President Trump

He admits it's a cesspool or sewer then. With him at the helm*

So - he admitted he's Lord of the Shit then?

Anniegetyourgun · 26/07/2017 02:06

Overtaken by more serious events, but re the scout thing, it must be time to post this again:

Dumdedumdedum · 26/07/2017 04:33

The comments by Trumpers on the FB link to this are more unbelievable than the article itself, though to be fair, I did read right to the end before realising it was satire, there is currently such a thin line between Trump'srality and fake news Sad

When Chinese police detained me in Tiananmen Sq on 20th anniv of crackdown there, first step was to make me delete all photos.

Anyone who accepts a nomination for AG now is banking on Trump's ability to implement full autocracy. Otherwise you'd have to be nuts.

Sarah Kendzior @sarahkendzior

This is absolutely right.

  1. There are multiple signs US is headed toward full autocracy, that checks and balances are failing. Besides AG -- TrumpCare and sanctions
  1. TrumpCare not only horrific on its own but has always been indicator future elections won't be free. From May: t.co/lAGRMnw0bo?amp=1
  1. In the case of TrumpCare, you get reps overturning will of the people, vast majority of whom do not want this cruel and dangerous bill.
  1. In the case of Russian sanctions, you have rare bipartisanship: 98-2 vote. Trump will likely veto or pocket veto, overturning their will.
  1. In the case of Sessions/Mueller, you see an AG expected to act as POTUS personal attorney, which Sessions has done. But role has limits.
  1. I've been saying since Jan we hang between a flawed democracy and a burgeoning autocracy. We are moving more quickly to autocracy now.
  1. All was predictable. But investigation was too late, media normalized him and lied for him, GOP propped him up. Dug your own graves.
  1. What you will be left with (unless powerful people act) is a dynastic, kleptocratic Russian proxy state controlled by mafioso-style rule

AltRadioFreeAmerica @ARadioFree_Am
The GOP knows perfectly well what it is doing. It's been planned it for decades. Interesting read: www.truth-out.org/opinion/item/41206-misinforming-the-majority-a-deliberate-strategy-of-right-wing-libertarians

Dumdedumdedum · 26/07/2017 06:43

I'm sorry for stating the obvious, but it is so evident that Trump thinks being POTUS = Dictatorship. I just don't get why he can't be stopped - is it because the Founding Fathers could not imagine someone as corrupt, dishonest, self-serving and nepotistic as Trump could ever be democratically elected by a sentient voting population?

Dumdedumdedum · 26/07/2017 06:45

Pain, coincidental cross-post Grin

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 26/07/2017 06:55

dumde they could and did imagine (see picture). What they didn't envisage was a compliant, self serving house and senate who would embrace the degradation of democracy to further their own short-sighted ends.

Sean's gone. It's sad. Great guy. Going to miss him.Trump continued
Dumdedumdedum · 26/07/2017 06:59

OMG, Pain - it is uncanny how that describes Trump to a T. But (if you'll pardon me for being hard of understanding) did Alexander Hamilton propose a method for how such a tyrant should be dealt with, or was there an underlying assumption that the House and Senate would never let anyone get that far in the first place?

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 26/07/2017 07:10

I think they expected the checks and balances to work. That the judiciary and the legislative branches of government would constrain anything too authoritarian.

With republicans having a majority in the house, senate and executive, it falls to them to stop any tyranny but as we've seen, they're happy to enable as long as they can push their agenda at the same time. I'm not at all versed in the constitution so I don't know if there are other means of keeping him in check apart from impeachment but again, with the republicans in control, it's harder to pursue.

Dumdedumdedum · 26/07/2017 07:49

Dear God! The full horror of Trump combined with the GOP was indeed, until this year, unimaginable.
I am removing myself to a wifiless Greek island soon, not reading about Trump and Brexit during that time should do my BP a world of good.

Roussette · 26/07/2017 07:52

It's the GOP who are responsible. I'd like to think they'll answer for their compliance and turn the other way, one day. More intent on saving their own skin than serving their country.

Just reading through all your great overnight links.

Lweji · 26/07/2017 07:56

The full horror of Trump combined with the GOP was indeed, until this year, unimaginable.

Not quite unimaginable.

A few people have quite active imaginations and saw Trump and GOP for what he was and the danger he represented.
(See Trump threads before and at election time)

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 26/07/2017 08:04

Hilary Clinton saw it coming and warned people

Lweji · 26/07/2017 08:08

But... Hillary is evil. And... e-mails.

Dumdedumdedum · 26/07/2017 08:13

(See Trump threads before and at election time)

I mean, yes, I saw those warnings and I usually have a good imagination, but I really, honestly, didn't comprehend the utter havoc that Trump combined with the GOP could wreak. It is still beyond me. As are those who still support them.

Sad Hillary Clinton. Sad.

Lweji · 26/07/2017 08:15

I'm surprised they haven't done worse.
We can blame their stupidity and divisonness.
