To not want DS to go to the beach after school?

DS finishes year 8 today at 1.15pm. Apparently ALL his friends are going to the beach and he wants to go with them. 1) we currently have a weather warning in place for severe rain and gale force winds 2) he has no idea how they are getting there and thinks he knows how they are getting home (I currently have no car so have arranged a lift for him at 1.15pm) 3) his mobile phone apparently doesn't work but there is no service anyway at the beach they want to go to and 4) he's such an argumentative little shite at the moment and has been so rude to me this morning I don't think he deserves to go.

It's already pouring with rain. Would you let him go?

perhaps he will change his plans.?
If it is raining now they might end up somewhere else?
Could he get a lift home from anyone?

Last day of term is usually go for coffee somewhere and enjoy just being, understand he's older now so may not appeal but i had ankle surgery on Wednesday so am unable to drive and literally relying on other people right now. We have shed loads of stuff planned for over the holidays.

I'm concerned about the lack of phone service (his friend has my phone number and could phone me if it would work) but I will literally have to have someone just waiting to collect him when he calls (which seems a bit of a cheek)

I would let him get on with it - everyone will bail when they see the weather anyway. If he is generally sensible and well behaved (at least in public) and isn't trying to tap you for money in order to do this (own funds) I think he can probably manage to organise his own afternoon.

If he rejects the offer of a lift he will have to get the bus or walk in the rain won't he?

He's 13 - a bit of attitude at home is normal

I'm going to go with not going. Once I'm driving again he can do to the beach whenever. That weather had literally turned for the worse since I typed my first message and while I appreciate it may clear up by the end of school it's evil at the moment.

He is being a little shite and my instinct was to say no on that basis but thought I'd get your opinions first!

Have similar here - I think they will ditch the bench as it's pouring down - so don't over think it!

I'm sure you are making the right call OP - it's hard to get the full picture from posts like this. I hope your ankle is better very soon and that he brings you lots of cups of tea to aid your recovery so you can both have a lovely summer I also hope this weather improves! I'm in Dorset and the beach would not be s pleasant prospect today unfortunately...

For all the reasons you have listed, the fact he doesn't know how to get there, or back, you can not drive at the moment.... Then the weather, being rude, dodgy phone.

It's a recipie for disaster, I'd encourage him to organise something similar for another date, with clear travel plans, and contingency plans incase of hiccuos and not having phone reception, bad weather ect....

I wouldn't let him go.
There are weather warnings for strong winds all over cornwall today and beaches are particularly hazardous in bad weather.
Cornwall without a car sucks!

I'm waiting for him to moan about walking to the school bus in the rain lol if he carries on moaning I'll leave him in school until the proper finishing time (which we can do) and not collect him early!! (That is a joke by the way I have no intention of doing that!)

To be honest I just think it's awful when parents stop their kids having fun with their friends, no matter how 'naighty' they've been. You only get one shot at teenage years, and missing out on that one fun leisure trip can mean you miss out on a lot, could even affect his friendships. It's sad, as it shouldn't, but at that age it does happen.

Please let him go OP.

No idea what year 8 is. How old is he?

I'd let him go if he can arrange a lift home. If he gets rained on he'll dry out, it's not like being wet in sub-zero temperatures. Teenager attitude isn't likely to be improved by stopping him celebrating the end of term with his mates, these things are important at that age.

Are we conveniently ignoring the gale force winds and storms? Beaches are incredibly dangerous in bad weather. Or does a 'fun leisure trip' trump being safe?
