So much conflicting advice, and I realize it's hardly a huge deal, but just wondered what kind of milk you all give your kids (full fat, semi skimmed, skimmed cows milk or other milks) and why? Also how old they are?

Full fat goats milk for 4 year old.
Skimmed goats milk for DH.
Skimmed cows milk for me

Windbeneathmybingowings · 20/07/2017 21:30

Full fat, 2 glasses a day and cereal for the 7 yr old. Gold top as a treat, we make a milkshake from it.

1 year old has 3 bottles a day still, sometimes 2, depends if he fancies it.

I just prefer whole milk, it feels more milky!

Tazerface · 20/07/2017 21:33

We buy semi but my kids don't like to drink milk. Don't get the obsession with drinking milk.

fuckingroundabout · 20/07/2017 21:33

semi skimmed shes 2.5 and has 4-5 pints a night :|

TupperwareTat · 20/07/2017 21:34

Almond & coconut & soya.

TartanDMs · 20/07/2017 21:34

I have bought the purple 1% milk for years. We used to have whole milk when DS was little but switched to semi skimmed when he was about 5 because he preferred the milk that his nan had (semi skimmed) and wouldn't drink any at home until we changed. When purple milk became available I started to get that instead (DS would have been about 10 I think). I quite like whole milk but am in a minority of 1.

Katescurios · 20/07/2017 21:35

Full fat here for my 3yr old.

GraceGrape · 20/07/2017 21:35

Both mine have oat milk. The were intolerant of cow's milk when they were younger and didn't pike the taste once they could have it. I think most milk substitute s have a lot less fat than whole milk, but they have calcium added.

Semiskimmed from the supermarket. They are 11, 12, 14 and 14

wellhonestly · 20/07/2017 21:39

Full fat milk in this house for 2 skinny mid-teens and their skinny Dad.

Orangedaisy · 20/07/2017 21:40

I think this thread isn't reflective of the vast majority of the population. Everyone I know has full fat cows to age 2, then semi skimmed after for everyone, with the occasional skimmed drinker, particularly those watching weight. Whether this is the right or wrong thing to do, I am sure that's what most people do. Perhaps this thread has only been clicked upon by the milk-obsessed....? Surprised the 'milk is for baby cows' lot haven't pitched in yet.

Anyway, as you were.

multivac · 20/07/2017 21:40

It was full fat until they were, maybe... five? Six? Can't remember. But MrMultivac and I prefer semi-skimmed, and between us we don't drink enough to warrant buying two types, so semi skimmed it is.

Back in the day, when it was just the two of us, we'd have full fat for tea; semi-skimmed for cereal.

And it's always organic. I don't care if you think I'm a twat, it's the one organic purchase I insist on.

multivac · 20/07/2017 21:42

(besides, I pay £3 for eight pints of organic semi-skimmed milk; that's still stupidly cheap, right?)

Notsure1234 · 20/07/2017 21:42

Alpro soya growing up milk for 20mo ds due to cmpi. 2 cups a day and on cereal. Will be switching to almond or oat when he is 2

WhatTheACTUALaarrgghh · 20/07/2017 21:43

Alpro 1+ (including 15 y o !)

Miserylovescompany2 · 20/07/2017 21:44

Full fat, 15 & 12 both are slim and active.

2yo has milk protein allergy, tolerates full fat yoghurt not milk as yet (still working on that one)

ragged · 20/07/2017 21:44

DH has unsweetened soy milk in unsweetened cereal (he likes it Confused ).
Full fat cow milk for everyone else. Kids are 9-15.
I feel really strongly about only full fat milk for tea.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 20/07/2017 21:45

DS2(11) full fat Cravendale
DD2(17) whatever
DD1(21), DH, semi skimmed lactofree
DS1(23) full fat lactofree
Me whatever

Our fridge is flipping groaning with various milks.

Gowgirl · 20/07/2017 21:46

Full fat 10,4 &2

WallisFrizz · 20/07/2017 21:46

We all drink semi. Kids are 2 and 5.

NataliaOsipova · 20/07/2017 21:46

Given milk is a low fat product anyway (defined as less than 5% fat - full fat is 4.2%), I really met understand people's obsession with semi skimmed milk. I only have milk in tea and don't like a milky taste, so I buy skimmed for me, but full fat for the DC.

MusicToMyEars800 · 20/07/2017 21:48

Me and OH have Skimmed milk we prefer it, and dds 5 and 7 have semi skimmed but mainly on their cereal and in porridge they don't tend to drink much milk, but get plenty of calcium.

helly29 · 20/07/2017 21:49

Semi skimmed for 2.5 yr old - he's always been on the higher end of normal weight and eats a good diet including cheese/yoghurt. Gradually switched over after he turned 2

It's also a lot simpler just buying one type.

theundecided · 20/07/2017 21:49

children are 4.5 and 2 - they have semi-skimmed on their cereal. 4 year old doesn't have it as a drink anymore, 2 year old has always hated it as a drink and hasn't had milk since he was 11 months old. So I just buy semi-skimmed as it's only with cereal and it's what me and DH prefer.
