Pass remarkable sales assistant??

So I took 16month old DS for a pair of new shoes today to a local shop. The sales assistant seen fit to comment "what?? He's not walking yet? (With a shocked look on her face) He really should be at that age"
DS is sofa surfing and walking with support he just hasn't taken of independently yet. I am absolutely livid and I gave her a good dressing down, so was I unreasonable??

I'm going to stick up for the OP in relation to the original point.

A sales assistant is not qualified to tell you that you're child SHOULD be walking. They are unlikely to be moonlighting as a health professional or child development specialist.

We don't know what constitutes a "dressing down" as everyone's interpretation is different but I don't think it is unreasonable to challenge ignorance, not because of 'pay grades', but because a stranger telling you your child's development is behind is never acceptable as countless threads have shown.

As for the subsequent points, maybe OP could work on phrasing.

Sparklingbrook · 20/07/2017 21:38

Pass Remarkable would be a great name for a driving school.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 20/07/2017 21:38

maybe OP could work on phrasing.

She needs to do more than that; she needs to work on her attitude.

SerfTerf · 20/07/2017 21:38

Pooh get you @PaddingtonLoverOfMarmalade Grin

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 20/07/2017 21:38

Ugh op you sound bloody vile

I feel very very sorry for your poor kids. How embarrassing for them

PoochSmooch · 20/07/2017 21:39

poochsmooch will you tip a pagan in Poundland

Well, that would depend if the pagan is pass remarkable and performs at their pay grade or not Grin

SouthChinaMorningPost · 20/07/2017 21:39

Well, you definitely sound like the bigger asshole here. Too points for the Enid Blyton lingo, though hahaha.

allthingslipsticks · 20/07/2017 21:39

Despite you trying to justify yourself OP, I still think you were BVU.

Seeingadistance · 20/07/2017 21:40

mnpeasentry. I can't be arsed rereading the thread but I don't think anyone has said that the saleswoman remark was ok. It's clearly a bit off. It's just that it didn't warrant the OPs over reaction and anger.

theundecided · 20/07/2017 21:41

This thread is hilarious. Op, 16 months is quite late to walk - I say this as a mother of a DS who didn't walk till 16 months, he wasn't prem or SEN or hypermobile or anything, he just didn't walk till late because he didn't. People mentioned it all time as he was massive and looked about 2, but I a) didn't care b) didn't think to give them a 'dressing down' for making an observation that was true.

You have been really rude, and over-reacted because you are sensitive about your DS walking late. Also, wtf are you doing buying your DHs shoes? Why can't he buy his own?

user1483617032 · 20/07/2017 21:41

mnpeasantry how do you know thye don't have a qualification in child health care or even training? Just because someone works in a shop doesn't mean they don't have qualifications. Not surprised you agree with the OP.

Come off it, peasantry, who is better qualified to talk about kids' feet and lack of walking than a woman who works in Clark's and fits kids' shoes all the time?? Hmm

Fluffypinkpyjamas · 20/07/2017 21:42

She was brainlessly commenting on something well above her pay grade

Wonders71 · 20/07/2017 21:42

Never in the 16 years we have been together have i bought my husbands shoes! People make comments without thinking all the time and to be honest i would of just been polite and said not yet they are getting there....your right its not in her pay grade to take abuse!

arethereanyleftatall · 20/07/2017 21:42

Tufty - that's an interesting point regarding Poundland tills. Does anyone on here work there, and if so, does your float at the start of the day contain only pound coins. Are there even any other trays in the till for other coins? So many questions.

ginswinger · 20/07/2017 21:43

I own a shop and work tirelessly to make it pay me and my staff a salary. If you had come into my shop and spoken to a member of my staff in that tone, you would have been politely but firmly, asked to take your custom elsewhere.

Shops are not public spaces. The staff are there to help you get what you need, not to be ridiculed on social media and forums. You are welcome to go elsewhere with your business. If you perceived rudeness on the staff member's side, a curt smile and to leave would have sufficed.

blueskyinmarch · 20/07/2017 21:43

In 32 years of marriage I have never bought my DH a pair of shoes. Am I failing in my duty as a wife?

Pantryboy · 20/07/2017 21:44

OH OP what did you expect posting in here ? You are obviously concerned about your ds not walking I totally understand that. don't take any notice of the haters here . I am sure your ds will be running you ragged around the house very soon .You really shouldn't take too much notice of the staff in shops either just be glad you don't have to do it for a living !

Flushot · 20/07/2017 21:44

Pass Remarkable would be a great name for a driving school

It really would Grin

NicolasFlamel · 20/07/2017 21:45

Aw at least you toss them a few shillings at Christmas.

Pass remarkable is going to end up in the same league as naice, darkedon and all the zillas.

user1483617032 · 20/07/2017 21:46

OP has defo posted on the wrong site considering most people have worked in retail as a first job.

Floggingmolly · 20/07/2017 21:48

If she's trained in fitting baby shoes; commenting on anything related would appear to be well "within her paygrade", actually.

DIYNOVICE · 20/07/2017 21:49

If you perceived rudeness on the staff member's side, a curt smile and to leave would have sufficed.

Just to marke sure I'm reading this correctly, if your customer felt a staff member has been rude, you would expect the customer to respond with a curt smile and leave? Confused
