I know it's been done to death but I need to get this out

Scrumptious.

Fuck that word. Just fuck it.

It's a stupid, self indulgent sort of word.

"Oh isn't he SCRUMPTIOUS!" Angry

It's such a childish word somehow. So Mary Poppins.

Also

Meal

"Sourced" when you really mean bought. Smacks of trying to sound posh and proper.

Patriciathestripper1 · 24/07/2017 12:48

'Spent' said as "I lay there spent" (after a shag)
Makes my skin crawl

Aeroflotgirl · 24/07/2017 14:32

LightDrizzle · 24/07/2017 14:53

Tasty
Nourishing
Curate (applied to non-museum stuff)
Hashtag
Hun
Darl
Panties
Hubby
Trump (for fart)
Meal
Sweet (for pudding)
Goodies or naughties (for sweets)
Phlegm - when people tell me they've got it. Just don't.
Bubba or bubs - for a baby
Grandbaby
Mummy - as a prefix: mummytime, mummywine time, mummytummy etc.

LightDrizzle · 24/07/2017 14:54

Aargh! How did I miss "cuppa"?

AngosturaBitter · 24/07/2017 14:58

"Simples." Angry

I'll add another "cuppa" to the list too.

MrsHathaway · 24/07/2017 15:24

I forgot: munch. Specifically, in diet contexts and relating to non-munchable foodstuffs.

"Ooh look at me in my scarlet wraparound frock and Spanx all lithe and glowing. I'm munching on chocolate and still losing weight! "

If you're "munching" on chocolate then either the chocolate is defective or you're doing it wrong.

Admirablenelson · 24/07/2017 15:37

Journey, not in the travel sense.

DollyMcDolly · 24/07/2017 15:56

Horrid
Grim
Vile

I hate seeing these words on Mumsnet

Freddofrog1983 · 24/07/2017 16:52

Don't know why but I hate the word contemporary. It annoys me every time I hear it!

Freddofrog1983 · 24/07/2017 16:53

MrsHathaway, that reminds me, I hate the word 'munch' when talking about a baby.

AhhhhThatsBass · 24/07/2017 16:55

Sumptuous
Tummy
Gusset
Plunder
Hun/Hunny (do people not realise the word is honey?)

EAWis18 · 24/07/2017 17:49

Festering

guiltybystander · 24/07/2017 20:24

I hate sentimental soppy bollox expressions such as emotional journey (you are not travelling anywhere) making memories, or life is an adventure (no, it's just life).
It really baffles me though why so many people hate the word meal Confused

HappyAxolotl · 24/07/2017 21:31

Just.

Just stop eating rubbish and you'll lose weight!
Just stop taking drugs!
Just leave your abuser!

You don't think the person crying out for help with their problem might have thought about that? Tried that? Discovered the hard way it isn't quite that easy to do?

How about "just" thinking before you speak?

muddyboots · 24/07/2017 21:48

Succulent.

bbcessex · 24/07/2017 21:57

Horrid.

As it.. "that's horrid / I can't believe anyone could be so horrid".

See it quite a lot on MN.. makes my eyes hurt. Posters with Enid Blyton pretensions 😤😤😤

bbcessex · 24/07/2017 22:00

Cuppy ? Cuppy ?
Oh my god, what fresh hell is that 😱😱😱
That has to win, surely?

Hippee · 24/07/2017 23:27

Someone just beat me to "making memories" - we can't just do things anymore, we have to make memories.

Also really dislike "standing shoulder to shoulder".

I always thought I was being totally irrational disliking "uni", so I was thrilled that it was one of the first words mentioned.

NK493efc93X1277dd3d6d4 · 24/07/2017 23:57

"Reach out to" used at work for contacting, phoning or emailing somebody.
Yes to Sanpro although have never ever heard anyone say it in real life.

Admirablenelson · 25/07/2017 14:50

I can't stand "uni" either, nor have I ever uttered the word "guy".

lemureyes · 25/07/2017 15:08

The only word I hate is antidisestablishmentarianism! Mainly because years ago on the school bus a boy in my year was saying it on a loop. For. The. Whole. Journey.

Other things that make me want to stab people is grammar issues.
Should of - should have
They're, there and their used incorrectly
Was - were
Seen too many people write Iv not I've, even though they don't shorten any other words in the whole paragraph they have written eye twitch

TeamCersei · 25/07/2017 15:31

Horrid.

Same people who use the word lashings?

I made it with lashings of cream. It was quite horrid.

TeamCersei · 25/07/2017 15:32

Someone just beat me to "making memories" - we can't just do things anymore, we have to make memories.

Especially when they're doing something really mundane, such as going down the park for half an hour Grin

GhostsToMonsoon · 25/07/2017 15:49

Lots of grammar errors annoy me. Recently saw except used instead of accept, as in 'this machine does not except the new pound coin.'

Furbaby for a pet.

My parents always used to say titty/tittyfeeding (my dad still does). I really hate it! Makes me think of Benny Hill Carry On.

I think 'leading' is overused too. I was watching a programme recently and just about everyone was one of the world's leading experts.
