Crappy weekend. Yesterday evening my kettle broke. At lunchtime my cooker stopped working. This evening my microwave doesn't heat anything. Oh and my bathroom sink is leaking.

Cooker is hopefully under warranty though how long it'll take to fix is another matter. But the other stuff has to be replaced, requiring time and money.

I was pretty pissed off with this but DPs attitude is just oh well it's only money, you have to accept things break.

I said not normally all in 24 hours and got told there was no point moaning at him , he can't fix any of it.

I feel really quite unimpressed. It's easy to tell me to spend my money- we don't live together, though he has meals here almost every night. I can afford a new kettle and microwave. That's not really the point though.

I have realised that it's been over 20 years since I was last able to relinquish any responsibility for any aspect of my life. I've never been able to share the load at all in that time, not at home and actually not at work either

I guess just for once you'd like someone to share the load, to say "I'll take care of that", to be supportive. Nothing wrong with wanting that, life is a hard slog doing all by yourself. Its human nature to want to feel cared for. & yes, especially by your partner. He''s your partner not some bloke who's a friend/acquaintance.

My washing machine broke down last year yes I know I can wash by hand but I was aggravated as Id mine & DDs clothes to sort. I don't live with OH and wasn't driving at the time Id sold my car - but he came by couple of times a week took the larger items and washed them at his. He didn't say "oh well things break just accept it". (The dickhead I wasted 5 years with before then would have tho - kindness was not his forte)

I don't think of it as someone doing something FOR me - we're a team. & even if he wanted to do something for me so what? & vice versa?

At least on Relationships board you might find people in your position who can give you tips on how they handle things. & work through whether this relationship is right for you or not

Good luckFlowers

Hey my oven has not worked in two months. I use slow cooker, microwave and stove top. It's amazing how you can get by

Finewines · 19/07/2017 23:21

Yes, it is someone to share the load. Not to do everything. Not to buy me things. Just to occasionally take care of something so it's not all, always, on me. Just to have the bins put out would be nice.

Fwiw, I understand better than many about getting by. I had no cooker for several months some years ago, and indeed no kitchen either. But frankly I have done all that, I'm older now and need an easier life. Plus this wasn't just oven but hob too, entire cooker couldn't be used. And microwave broke at the same time. Amd kettle so i couldn't even have a cupasoup! So there was no alternative. I can't really use a slow cooker as all recipes I see require 6-8 hours cooking but I'm at work longer than that. Anyway thankfully cooker is now fixed and working again.

And relationships board next time.
