Why do they do this? It makes no difference at all.
I would never bite them, but I do think about it.

Rebel That's great then- sweat away! Just as long as you aren't simpering I won't mind any amount of hand flapping.

Headofthehive55 · 17/07/2017 15:03

crone absolutely. And flapping is so much more effective when you are dripping in sweat. Arriving at a meeting armed with towel to wipe the sweat away, and a fan I think would cause a few more looks than flapping your hands. These young ones have just no idea what's coming.

Women flap their hands around and men fan themselves with their panama hats. Imagine Julian Sands...

I carry a paper fan. I get looks for that as well, and my hot, red face, and refusing to do active things in the heat. If I'm going to get looks regardless, I might as well please myself.

Why do some people mime drinking when they want to know if you want a drink? Why do people gesture at things they want you to pass them?

RebelRogue · 17/07/2017 15:33

I don't do simpering. I'm more of a growl person Grin

steff13 · 17/07/2017 15:42

They're not "flapping their hands at their faces," they're fanning themselves. It's not something I do personally, but it does make a tiny bit of difference if there's no breeze.

When I'm having a hot flush and feel like I'm being microwaved then flapping my hands in front of my face makes it a bit more bearable, it's either that or I'll start stripping off, so believe me flapping hands is more preferable....for everyone 😂😂

Laiste · 17/07/2017 16:12

I've just tried it to see how much wind it makes and bashed my specs into the bridge of my nose. Ow! Bloody hell OP.

WhatLizzyDid · 17/07/2017 16:20

Op, live and let live, mind your own business and don't bite anyone!

Madwoman5 · 17/07/2017 18:26

Compulsory I am afraid when you are of a certain age. Any breeze is worth it when it is coming up from your boots.
