Why do they do this? It makes no difference at all.
I would never bite them, but I do think about it.

AngelaK it absolutely does work for me if it's to stop crying at a film or similar. No idea why- perhaps it diverts attention from the part of the brain that controls weepy stuff.

scaryclown · 16/07/2017 22:48

The eye flapping when crying is a diversion to the hands, who want to get straight into rubbing.. Not great with either mascara or false lashes...

justkeepswimmingg · 16/07/2017 22:48

Makes a difference to me Wink. When you're having a hot flush for whatever reason (pregnancy for me), and you have nothing to hand to fan yourself, then you'll find 'flapping' your hand to be beneficial Smile.

Expellibramus · 16/07/2017 22:48

Ah, how refreshing, recently posters vy to make an aggressive first reply but now they're just posting their inane vitriol in threads of their own. It's tidier at least.

scaryclown · 16/07/2017 22:50

I think k if men do it they are probably women inside. #noteveryonewhoflapswithadickisaman

hula008 · 16/07/2017 22:50

The air directly around you is warmed by your body. Flapping at your body causes the cool air to be pushed towards you, cooling your skin. It's how fans work.

scaryclown · 16/07/2017 22:52

Is this a Wimbledon thread?

Anyway fact fans this is the first year I watched the women's final but not the menz

corythatwas · 16/07/2017 22:53

it works for me, definitely enough to get some cooler air circulating

MistressDeeCee · 16/07/2017 23:02

I dont even notice women doing that. Doesnt register anywhere in my psyche. I find it quite strange that anyone would notice tbh. Is it different if men do it?

Fleshy · 16/07/2017 23:30

🏆most pointless thread ever🏆
Have you considered a hobby?

whydotheygetawaywithit · 16/07/2017 23:34

Just wait user146. Just wait till the hormone induced sweats start.

Fuck flapping my hands, I need to carry around an industrial air conditioning unit.

Stop being so bastarding judgemental. It is hateful being hotter than hell.

Sparklingbrook · 17/07/2017 10:14

Doesn't look like OP is very interested in the replies. Confused

Kokapetl · 17/07/2017 10:17

Would you rather people carried massive paper/cloth/ wooden / whatever fans with them?

AUsernameThatNooneHas · 17/07/2017 10:19

Just Confused

That's all

Banchan · 17/07/2017 10:23

I would never bite them, but I do think about It
Confused

Sparklingbrook · 17/07/2017 10:26

Yes I would rather be a flapper than a biter all things considered. Grin

nina2b · 17/07/2017 10:29

Erm... it moves the air around and is used in lieu of a fanConfused

claraschu · 17/07/2017 10:29

I get annoyed by girly, aren't-I-feminine type gestures.

To me, little "aren't I silly" cutesy gestures remind me of the irritating expectations which society has of women. These things make me cross, so I can understand people who roll their eyes at twee feminine habits, of which this hand-flapping seems to be one.

OstentatiousWanking · 17/07/2017 10:31

You'd hate me. I'm in the grips of a vicious menopause and if I'm not attention seeking flapping my Chinese fan about I'm flapping my hand or billowing my top trying to get a breeze round my massive tits.

SukiTheDog · 17/07/2017 10:33

Depends how desperate you are for a whisper of airflow! I take it OP, that you're not menopausal?

I think you might need to find a hobby/get out more.

paxillin · 17/07/2017 10:40

Maybe they are just hot and try to fan air? Flapping - even the word is meant as an insult. It isn't a grand feminist gesture to ridicule other women like that. It is just another little misogynistic poke. If a bloke does it, it is presumably called "fan" or "wave". Only silly women flap.

Jaxhog · 17/07/2017 10:44

Why do people start weird judgey threads about harmless things other people do?
This.

Who cares!

claraschu · 17/07/2017 10:45

I just don't think fanning yourself with a hand really works, but it is complicated. Here is an article on the subject:

Enquiring minds must know!"

OP's post reminded me of the 'Australian salute', which I have found myself doing quite a lot lately thanks to bloody horseflies everywhere.

BeepBeepMOVE · 17/07/2017 10:49

I agree!

It makes you hotter overall because of the energy needed to move hand. They are better just sitting calmly and imagining they are cold. The same temp in Dec would have them shivering.

It's like signalling you are a bit of an idiot.
