To hate the song "Shape of You"?

I mean, it's basically only talking about the woman's body and looks, but literally nothing else, yet it's inexplicably popular.

I just don't get it - why can't songs have a good message behind them?

I'm not keen on the lyrics of the original at all, but I do like this version:

I'm with U2 here - nowt wrong with him, seems like a nice bloke, belt his songs out in the car and never really think about him any other time. Talented on a loop pedal - whether you like him or not, he's very good at what he does. They're trickier than you might think, he was spotless at glasters!

It is all dog pump. All of his music is dog pump. Picking up individual songs is pointless. Sheeran Is pure gash.

Have people seen the video for Shape of You? The love interest is an athlete (boxer) who can kick (his) arse and take names. I think it's great.

I quite like the song but I hate the bedsheets line too! My DS loves this song. I cringe when he sings that line. He's 7, his bedsheets should smell like fresh laundry

This thread is an embarrassment to Mumsnet. It's clear that a good many of you had a massive crush on Ed Sheeran, and now that the crush has worn off, you've realised that his songs aren't all that.

(As an aside, SOY lost me at the "Van on the stereo" line- clearly it's a song for those of a certain age).

He's just Ed Sheeran, folks. There's always Shakespeare or Bach if you want something more profound, so don't blame Ed for not being up to the same standard.
