Apparently the whole country is waiting to celebrate her birthday (according to ITV)
Well Dh certainly isn't!
He was a big fan when he was a lad, and went to see her in a pantomime.
Waiting at the stage door after the show for an autograph with other star struck youngsters, she came out and told them all to Piss Off and clear off home Shock
He said she was the most horrible, rude person and that he never watched her in anything again.
Which celebs have you met that didn't match up to the pedestal you had them on?

Met quite a few celebs through work and it's often the ones you expect to be lovely who are the worst!

Simon Amstell is a really horrible man. Very rude and obnoxious, incredibly entitled. John Bishop the same, nasty attitude. Mark Watson is a bit rude but his wife/manager is far worse.

Stephen Fry is lovely to fans but not very nice to staff. Which upset me to be honest as I really liked him!

Greg Davies is my favourite celeb I've met. So lovely and gracious, came and thanked all the staff personally and helped us in clearing up after the event as well!

Henning Wehn is a real sweetheart, we were all really pleased for him when our venue became too small for his gigs and he moves on up to the bigger venues.

The one that surprised me the most was Jimmy Carr- didn't expect him to be very nice but was actually lovely, and very apologetic and caring after accidentally injuring me!

JammyGem · 16/07/2017 16:29

Oh and Tony Robinson used to visit the archaeology department at my uni quite often, but was hated by all the staff and students because of his "don't you know who I am?" attitude...

iwantedanap · 16/07/2017 17:23

Somebody who pleasantly surprised me, because he had a very bad reputation, was Eric Cantona. We were on a train journey where several other trains had been cancelled. So the train was packed, hot and he stood up with a steady stream of autograph hunters for the whole of a 3 hour journey. He was pleasant and polite to every single one of them and didn't even attempt to get himself a seat in first class.

Bahhhhhumbug · 16/07/2017 17:24

Jammy we lived in Bristol and my son then a young teen used to sometimes get a lift to athletics with Tony Robinsons son. He hated it when it was his turn because he said TR sat there in stony silence when driving and only grunted begrudgingly when they got out the car. I know they must get fed up of earning erroneous e pecking them to be funny all the time but ds said he was just plain ignorant.

Bahhhhhumbug · 16/07/2017 17:26

earning erroneous? ??? everyone expecting

JustadaftProfessor · 16/07/2017 17:29

apparently on the set of Time Team Tony robinson would let any of the children or junior archologist speak to him, in case they mentioned baldrick.

I only know this as third hand information so i can't say it's 100% true.

Pariswhenitdrizzles · 16/07/2017 17:31

That's a shame about Simon Amstell and John Bishop, Jammy :( I'm a huge fan of their comedy. Although I suppose Simon Amstell's comedy can be quite bitchy at times!!

JustadaftProfessor · 16/07/2017 17:32

Okat i messed that up, it should read "Wouldn't let"

JammyGem · 16/07/2017 17:45

A friend of mine who was studying archaeology went up to him in the library cafe. Just said he was sorry to bother him, but he loved Time Team and it was the reason he was doing his degree. TR didn't even look up, just said "that's nice" in a sarcastic voice. My friend was really put out.

Paris Simon Amstell really surprised me, I thought he might be a bit carry but he was a lot worse than I expected. Reduced one of my team members to tears, and had a hissy fit because he expected two members of staff to stand guard by his car the whole time he was in the venue...

JammyGem · 16/07/2017 17:45

That's should be "a bit catty"!

cuirderussie · 16/07/2017 17:48

A friend worked in TV in the 80s and also reported that TR is a massive twunt.

Porkpudding · 16/07/2017 17:49

I also think that unless the celeb was extremely rude or in the case of Ronan Keating downright nasty then you cant base an entire character judgement on them refusing to sign an autograph and just because a celeb signs an autograph it doesn't mean to say they are lovely people. Everyone has off days and no one should be accosted 24/7 by strangers. A close relative of mine works in a very fancy golf club and if the staff are caught asking for autographs then they are immediately fired! My relative has met loads of celebrities but the only one that really sticks out was Mary Berry- he said she was rude, condescending, snobby and obnoxious.... most of the staff had a similar opinion!

Partridgeamongstthepigeons · 16/07/2017 17:56

Having read this thread and being a huge Coogan/Partridge fan some of the 'nastier' celebs are mentioned by Partridge in the programmes and his books ... Tony Robinson, Bill Oddie, Noel Edmonds (although Partridge only dislikes Edmonds)... wonder what Sue Cook is like?

YessicaHaircut · 16/07/2017 18:01

Adding to the 'lovely' list: Ed Tudor Pole, Neil Innes, David Bailey, Jennifer Saunders & Ade Edmondson, Luke Treadaway, Maggot (so tall and gives the best hugs!), Peter Hook.

BabychamSocialist · 16/07/2017 18:05

Aidan Turner is absolutely lovely, a real gent and even better looking in person

13Bastards · 16/07/2017 18:05

Liam Gallagher was lovely when I met him, shook my hand and introduced himself. Asked what I had been up to that day etc, I was really surprised!

A chauffer friend of DH's was ferrying people to the Open golf game in Hoylake, Wirral. He saw another chauffer he reognised and said hello. The man replied "Hi, how are you?" in an American accent and gave him a big smile. He apologised for mistaking him for someone else, walked off and then realised it was George Clooney.

BelligerentGardenPixies · 16/07/2017 18:06

A friend of mine has an anecdote about Babs which I can't repeat for fear of getting done for slander but I have no reason to think my friend was lying... and it was pretty awful.

Years ago, I used to socialise a little bit with Miranda because she was the house mate of a friend and she was always very pleasant and I cant imagine her being rude. However, this was before she was in anyway famous. Maybe fame does change some people.

diaimchlo · 16/07/2017 19:15

Way back in the 70's in a motorway services I had the pleasure of meeting the Jackson 5, they were all very polite and were signing everyone's napkin that asked them.

Ainsley Herriot is one of the most caring and empathetic people I have ever met, When I took a young student who suffered epilepsy to see a live recording of his show Ready Steady Cook, she started showing triggers that she was going to suffer a siezure, I waited till the break in filming and warned security that we needed to leave the studio. Ainsley came running behind us, got down to my students eye level asking if there was anything he could do.... He was lovely.

Now Jim Davidson don't start me on that ignorant, bigotted, up his own rear end Prat!!!!!

Bloodyhellfire · 16/07/2017 19:42

Sorry if this has been said before. I soooooo agree with being polite if you're in the public eye. Manners cost nothing. I'm an infant teacher and I live VERY close to the very small village school where I work. I almost think of myself as a fake celebrity 😂😂😂There is not a day that goes by where I don't see a child I know outside of school hours and I would not DREAM of ignoring them or being rude (likewise with their parents). As I said, manners cost nothing.

redshoeblueshoe · 16/07/2017 20:00

Round here you regularly see people from Coronation street. All the ones I have seen have been lovely.
The one I couldn't get over was Alison King, she was absolutely stunning

originalbiglymavis · 16/07/2017 20:04

I've seen a couple of celebs being swarmed while eating.

One is a footballer (mayve been Vialli) out with his family (I assume) and patiently stopping to have photos taken, have a wee chat, all very friendly. The other was some young blonde (judging by the swarm of teen girls - she has a butterfly tattoo on her wrist - above the back of her hand, if that helps) having lunch by herself. She was beaming for selfies, chatting to the girls and all smiley. I felt sorry for them but was impressed with how they handled it. Both in Wagamammas (different branches).

originalbiglymavis · 16/07/2017 20:05

Oh - I've bumped into a chap off Corrie a few times in the gym. I vaguely know his character and he always smiles and says hello to me. His character was married to Hayley (I think).

thekillers · 16/07/2017 20:09

I checked into a hotel where he was appearing. He was checking in at the same time. There were loads of dodgy men hanging round, one made a comment to me. Made them refund me as it was pre-paid, told them it was unacceptable to have him in a hotel as a performer without warning guests in advance and left.

SpottedGingham · 16/07/2017 20:11

Luke Goss (Bros, anyone remember them?) asked me if I knew who he was. Ooh the temptation! 😂

Oh and Britney Spears queue jumped in the loos at the Mondrian in LA, didn't flush, nor wash her hands. 🤢
