Apparently the whole country is waiting to celebrate her birthday (according to ITV)
Well Dh certainly isn't!
He was a big fan when he was a lad, and went to see her in a pantomime.
Waiting at the stage door after the show for an autograph with other star struck youngsters, she came out and told them all to Piss Off and clear off home Shock
He said she was the most horrible, rude person and that he never watched her in anything again.
Which celebs have you met that didn't match up to the pedestal you had them on?

Michael Portillo is very nice.

William Hague and his entourage took over our local pub one evening on the campaign trail some years ago, and was an absolute HOOT. Had time for everyone, bantered like a pro, got steaming drunk (as did everyone else) and by the end of the night was everyone's best mate.

But before I make myself sound like a right hooray Tory, George Osborne is an absolute cock. In fact that's harsh actually, I genuinely just think he's really, really dim.

limitedperiodonly · 15/07/2017 23:17

hollyisalovelyname no. There are a lot of us about

AGirlCalledJohnny · 15/07/2017 23:26

What is the deal with all the posters who keep colliding with Hugh Grant? Look about you mate!

PantPlot · 15/07/2017 23:29

I wondered about the Hugh Grant thing too!

I also had a little chuckle about Tom Hiddleston being so down to earth that he responded to a cabbie's question by reciting Rudyard Kipling Grin

aintnobodygottimeforthis · 15/07/2017 23:31

AGirlCalledJohnny - Brilliant

PantPlot - Oh god, I would've died

BrownJenkins · 15/07/2017 23:35

I found Princess Anne to be lovely, no messing, straight talking but very nice (and polite)
Spent a few hours with Terry Wogan (back in the 80's) a wonderful man.
Chris Tarrant however was a rude, foul mouthed bully.

WaspsAreBastards · 15/07/2017 23:35

Saw Winston from Still Game at the Kelvingrove Gallery. He said hello to my fiancé whilst outside (I was elsewhere) but when I was viewing Salvador Dali's Christ of Saint John of the Cross he and two other guys turned up, one of the guys quite rudely told me to get shot because they were about to film something, he specified that they were going to film when the place was shut! No cameras or camera crew in sight. "Winston" (don't know his real name) looked embarrassed.

WaspsAreBastards · 15/07/2017 23:38

Oh and the mention of Billy Connolly reminded me of this Chewin The Fat sketch;

ghostyslovesheets · 15/07/2017 23:38

David Tennant - lovely and smelt great

Tony Benn - just sweet and kind and funny

Tony Blair - oh how I wanted to hate him but he was totally lovely - not slimey or smarmy = god damn him!

MargoChanning · 15/07/2017 23:43

Oh but Pantplot, it was this bit he apparently recited to the cabbie:

'If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same; '

Which I think is pretty down to earth for a movie star Smile

The cabbie had asked him how he deals with bad reviews. Grin

PantPlot · 15/07/2017 23:47

Margo Grin

I'm not poking fun, I actually think the Hiddle is really quite nice. In a kind of Tom Cruise-y way iyswim.

MargoChanning · 15/07/2017 23:51

Ah okay Pantplot, I misunderstood. And yes, I get what you mean! Grin

aquashiv · 15/07/2017 23:52

Ricky Gervais is nothing like the alter ego. Someone who would stop to save a bumble bee.

MargoChanning · 15/07/2017 23:52

Just realised my post makes no sense whatsoever! I meant that I understand what you mean about the Tom cruise similarity.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 16/07/2017 00:03

Calum Best is lovely. He was really kind to my DD a couple of years ago - she was 3 at the time and very shy. Chris Jarvis is fab too. And John Pickard was very nice to me when I may have buggered up slightly in a 'professional' capacity years ago.

WAG Nicola Hart was vile when I had dealings with her. She had spent a hell of a lot of money on something that had gone very wrong, which was nothing to do with me or the place I worked for - but I could have put in a bit of (unpaid) time and effort and sorted it all out for her, saving her the cash. However, after some delightful Hmm phone conversations with her, I thought fuck that. Horrible woman.

YogaAndRum · 16/07/2017 00:12

Those asking about Mary Berry, my driver (who also drives Miranda and Michael Palin too) tells me that she's nothing like what you see on the TV. I dont watch GBBO so have nothing to compare to, but he said that she's a cold business woman 'with a mind like a steel trap'.

wildbhoysmama · 16/07/2017 00:17

Classic sketch, Wasps. Was rewatching some ' Interpreter for the neds' recently and forgot how hysterical it was. You've lightened my night, Ta.

Cloeycat · 16/07/2017 00:19

Michael Flatley is lovely.
Carol Voderman- I can't actually remember why but I wasn't overly impressed when I met her, I didn't like her daughter though. I was a waitress at a party and her daughter happened to be wearing a Ted Baker dress I had bought the week before, so as I served her I said, I love your dress I actually bought it last week. Her response? A funny look followed by 'I don't think you could afford it' 😕

I also once stayed in the same hotel as one direction. While returning to the hotel my sister and I were refused entry by their management team (at this point we didn't know who was staying there but gathered it was someone famous) until we got our room keys out and demanded to speak to the front office manager. Apparently we look like potentially crazed 1D fans....

WaspsAreBastards · 16/07/2017 00:20

wildbhoysmama Rab McGlinchey! I went to college with a lassie with the surname McGlinchey! Have you seen Burnistoun?

wildbhoysmama · 16/07/2017 00:36

There were a few McGlincheys in my school too. Burnistoun is grand.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/07/2017 00:56

Many many years ago (in about 1985 Blush ) I was a huge fan of "Men at Work" (Down Under)

I wrote a fan-letter to lead singer Colin Hay ..................but heard nothing back until months later , I got a written reply, on retina searing yellow paper (like their album cover)
"Sorry for the late reply, hope I haven't goofed and lost a fan. We're in the USA and your letter came via Australia......"

I may have scraped the DNA from the letter to clone him , still madly love Mr Hay .

BaggypantsCrimplesnitch · 16/07/2017 01:06

Russell Howard is a sweetheart. After the gig he said he'd be in the foyer signing stuff, and he was as good as his word - took quite a shine to my (adult) DD, too! You can see how close he's holding her in the photo he posed for, and she said he was cuddling her really tight. You can also see her ear to ear grin...!

Pariswhenitdrizzles · 16/07/2017 01:16

Cloey thats awful re: Carol Vorderman's daughter :( I'm sorry. Very poor behaviour on her part!!

Pariswhenitdrizzles · 16/07/2017 01:20

I have to say, it is interesting seeing how differently strangers (or anyone) can behave compared to when you're just chatting with them somewhere and when you're serving them (as a waiter or waitress).

I used to serve drinks at end-of-year balls at university, and people would just come up to the bar, demand what they wanted - e.g. 'a gin and tonic' - without even saying please or thank you, and just look straight through me :(

foodiefil · 16/07/2017 01:45

@isthismummy what an arse hole! Shearer I mean. I've also heard a story about him coming on to a flight attendant and when she resisted he said something along the lines of 'I have children all over the world' oh lovely dear...

Mel C was very nice. Met her in the toilets at work - she was undoing her jeans cos she was desperate but still lovely.

And Marco Pierre White was awful but charming.
