AIBU to think - thank god the school holidays are here?

4 DC in 3 different schools. 2 broke up last week and the younger two just today. Freedom from the treadmill! No more homework deadlines, music practice schedules, PE kits, book bags, emails, assembles, concerts, trips, exams, friendship dramas, school runs and school-related issues until September! AIBU to think the holidays are much less stress for all concerned and mix a large mojito at this hour?

YANBU We love the holidays for the very same reasons!

monkeysox · 13/07/2017 16:35

Yanbu another week to go here. Enjoy

queenofthedump · 13/07/2017 16:35

Still got nearly two weeks here and I CANNOT WAIT!!!!

I always feel a bit sorry for the mums on the playground who are there moaning about the impending school hols. I love it.

AndNowItIsSeven · 13/07/2017 16:36

Yanbu , would love to home school.

donajimena · 13/07/2017 16:37

Oh I can't wait either! However mine are 11 & 14, when they were in infants I counted down every minute until September. Its only the last two I have really enjoyed.

donajimena · 13/07/2017 16:38

*two years

ghostyslovesheets · 13/07/2017 16:41

I have to work so no!

looking forward to 2 weeks holiday though

whatdoessheknow · 13/07/2017 16:42

Yes ours are now 14, 12, 10 and 8 and so much easier than years gone by. Give them a few weeks and they'll be fighting about something, but for now, it's relief. I don't know if it's just me, but I find the whole school rigmarole exhausting Confused

I'm looking forward to it too. I've just booked annual leave for the whole school holidays too so we're all free* (DH is off all August too). The kids are 7 and 17 so it's not an exhausting slog.

  • well, I have some work to finish during that time but it means I can turn my out of office reply on and ignore all sort of things for weeks.
alizziebee · 13/07/2017 17:41

I am soooo relieved it's hols time! We've just been through GCSE's with DS and 2nd year Uni exams with DD ... I was completely exhausted by the time they finished. We are relaxing with grandpa down on the coast now!!!

NoCapes · 13/07/2017 17:44

We've another week to go yet but YANBU I can not bloody wait!

Xmasbaby11 · 13/07/2017 17:46

Another week yet..mixed feelings. We both work so we have 2 weeks off on holiday, but the dc will be in childcare for the other 4 weeks. And I'm worried dd 5 will get behind with reading and writing as she's weak anyway.

Troels · 13/07/2017 17:46

One week to go and I can turn off the alarm clock. well put in on only for the two days I work Can't wait.

TheDonald · 13/07/2017 17:47

Yes! Can't wait! It's for different reasons this year though.

I've always loved the holidays when dd was little because we got to do so much fun stuff together.

This year I'm working right through but I won't have the extra hassle of making sure she's up and done her homework etc.

It's just always calmer in our house when school isn't in the mix!

isittheholidaysyet · 13/07/2017 17:48

8 more schooldays to go!
(Can't wait!)

SummerKelly · 13/07/2017 17:51

YABU, we home ed and now we can't do anything without all the crowds!

PsychoPumpkin · 13/07/2017 17:51

We have a week to go but I'm looking forward to it. I have back issues at the moment & walking the school run is something I'm pleased to get a break from.
Also my eldest is at a lovely age & the more time I can spend with her the better

queenofthedump · 13/07/2017 18:23

Summerkelly that's what it's like for us the rest of the year!!!

MaisyPops · 13/07/2017 18:29

Can't wait for the holidays.
I've got lovely students but there is a general feeling of being ready for the break now.

Somebody mentioned parents complaining about the holidays at the school gates, they're probably the ones who also think we do nothing but baby sit there children all day.

Foxsox · 13/07/2017 18:36

Kids finish tomorrow
I LOVE!!!!! The holidays and I am not one of those mums who dreads them.
I work term time so these are my holidays too.
I'm so very excited !!!

Hadjab · 13/07/2017 18:40

YANBU - I'll be working except for two weeks in the summer, but no school run, so I won't need to leave the house until 9 every morning - yay, lie-in!

Phillipa12 · 13/07/2017 18:44

I love the school holidays and only one of mine is at school. No more having to be up and out of the house by a certain time, 5 more days!

AGnu · 13/07/2017 18:46

We home school but all our usual activities stop over the summer & I can't even take them out to the places we have memberships because DS1 doesn't cope well with crowds. It means we have to actually organise playdates at home/other people's houses to be social without the distraction of an activity. It just makes socialising the main "thing" which is so much more pressured & as much as DS enjoys it, he lets all that pressure out once we get home & makes me never want to socialise again!

That's on top of the angst over the routine change & the constant questions about how many days it is until things start again... I'm not a huge fan of the holidays!

lessthanBeau · 13/07/2017 18:47

I can't wait either, we finish tomorrow, a week early, as going on holiday during last week of term.
Even though I m still at work for 4 weeks of the holidays I'll still have days off and no school runs to interupt the day.
I count the days each term until hols Smile

missadasmith · 13/07/2017 18:50

Yes, yabu

it is all so much more stressfull with the holiday clubs. Non of them is near home. more driving around. more pressure to be at work on time. they cost a fortune. by the end of the holiday we are always skinned and more stressed (me and DP at least).
