AIBU to think - thank god the school holidays are here?

4 DC in 3 different schools. 2 broke up last week and the younger two just today. Freedom from the treadmill! No more homework deadlines, music practice schedules, PE kits, book bags, emails, assembles, concerts, trips, exams, friendship dramas, school runs and school-related issues until September! AIBU to think the holidays are much less stress for all concerned and mix a large mojito at this hour?

I'm excited about our holiday to Devon for the last fortnight, but the other 4 weeks will be same routine just dropping dc off somewhere different! I just really hope dd likes the holiday playscheme, though childminder and dh will also have her a few days. I don't begrudge the money paying for clubs, I just hope dd enjoys them because she loves school and will be missing her friends.

Summer is our busiest time at work so I'm lucky to get 2 weeks off, but I'll be working long hours the rest of the time.

missyB1 · 13/07/2017 20:40

Ds broke up nearly two weeks ago, it's lovely not having to do the school run, or wash / organise uniform and sports kit.

megletthesecond · 13/07/2017 20:43

Yabu. I've still got to work pt and herd the dc's off to holiday club. My life goes on hold for 6 weeks because I can't do anything on my days off except referee arguments and provide food.

YANBU - I can't wait until my kids break up (end of next week), not least because I have got two weeks off work! They are both fed up with school at the moment.

CrochetBelle · 13/07/2017 20:48

We're two weeks into the holidays and I'm over it already Grin

TheSconeOfStone · 13/07/2017 20:51

I love the holidays even though I'll be working for most of it. DD1 is autistic in mainstream school and finds it so challenging. She's much happier in the holidays. I don't even mind giving up my one day off a week to meet up with friends and do fun stuff with the DC.

waterrat · 13/07/2017 20:51

People really worry about their 5 yr old falling behind in reading? Jesus what ludicrous expectations we have of little kids in the UK. In most countries 5 yr olds havent started formal learning yet.

whatdoessheknow · 13/07/2017 20:52

Sorry to hear that MiaowtheCat. It's hideous when they're being bullied. Year 7 is the worst to pull through I've found.
To all those using holiday clubs, at least there's no homework and uniforms.

I can't wait for them to break up next Friday. I'm working a bit but lots planned around it. I'm even getting 4 nights child free! I think that may be the best present I have ever had Grin

Longdistance · 13/07/2017 21:01

Yep.

Not so much the school, but the bloody clubs that are dotted around town. Back and forth like a yoyo.

We don't finish til next Thursday and have loads planned. We also go away Late August for our 2 week holiday. Sil is visiting from Oz too, so have things pencilled in there. A week up at mils.

I've also managed to sneak in a spa day Grin

lovetowasteitagain · 13/07/2017 21:02

Can't wait for the holidays but then will be counting down to Sept.. but mine are 3 and 5 so it's a bit swings and roundabouts. 5yo reacts badly to stopping/starting and behaviour will deteriorate for a while either side but lots of lovely trips planned and no sodding school uniform to get ready and no stupid packed lunches to make for 3yo. I do have studying to do around minimal childcare though, which is always fun. But whatever. Goodbye playground smalltalk!

CotswoldStrife · 13/07/2017 21:08

8 more schooldays to go here, I am so looking forward to the holidays! This last half-term is always manic and this year is no exception (despite cutting down on some of the out-of-school stuff this year).

We are away on holiday shortly after DD finishes school too. Have a few activites booked already and looking forward to a mix of chilling, games, activities and a bit of school work/music practice. It's going to be fab!

Ankleswingers · 13/07/2017 21:12

On countdown here too.

Can't wait. Grin

6 School days to go.

burntoutmum · 13/07/2017 21:12

Love it! But I'm a SAHM so find it easy, I can imagine it can be a logistical nightmare for working parents!!

MirandaWest · 13/07/2017 21:13

Mine don't break up for nearly 2 weeks on 26th.

Gazelda · 13/07/2017 21:18

I'm another one juggling holiday clubs, paying a fortune to spend my time racing to and from work.
My mother's guilt is at its peak during the summer holidays.

Cailleach666 · 13/07/2017 21:28

We are nearly 2 weeks into the holidays here.

YABU in my house!

SN DS2(15) has already been off school for the last 6 weeks, attended mornings only for 2 months before that and he has been driving me nuts. Behaviour has really escalated this past year so I had to remove him from mainstream and and I am dreading DS1(15) and DS3 (7) being at home too from next week. It's going to be constant sniping and arguing with each other with me having to be hypervigilent to ensure nothing physical erupts. Thankfully DD (at Uni) has finally found a summer job so hopefully won't add be around much to add more fuel to the flames!

We have 3 weeks away at the end of July which will be easier to cope with as DH will be with us and DS2 behaves much better with him around.

I am counting down to September as he will finally be starting his SN school and I am praying all the problems he faced in mainstream will be behind him/me. Just the thought of having the house to myself again for a day will see me through itGin.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 13/07/2017 21:39

YABU
As others above we Home Ed & eveything is soooo busy! Holidays are 2 weeks in here & we've been hiding out for most of it Grin
Also we have a couple of weeks where the kids are doing an activity every day which will mean leaving the house before 9am Shock no idea how that will go...

Luckymummy22 · 13/07/2017 21:46

Yabu.
My daughter hasn't been at school for over 2 weeks due to illness and the operation.
She can finally go back on Monday but it's only for a week 😭
I've had enough and she's so bored.
Plus I can't send her to holiday clubs so having to rearrange things at work.

Even our holiday is up in the air at the moment thanks to her injury 😡

tigercub50 · 13/07/2017 22:03

I have an hysterical overtired 8 year old upstairs so I can't wait for the end of term! She's absolutely shattered but fighting sleep. And they still have over a week left. This term is just sooooo long.

Natural36 · 13/07/2017 22:14

Mine break up next Friday . they are counting the days and so am I . single parent means I get half the holidays and so does their dad so I have the first 3 weeks and he has the last 3 weeks . will love the first 3 weeks then maybe the first couple of days child free doing housework but miss them so much and just want them home . he lives a long way away .. Near a beach infact but does practically zero with them :(

AmysTiara · 13/07/2017 22:15
