New thread so that we can await this morning's hearing.

Let's try to keep this one as sensible and measured as the past 5 threads have been.

Fingers crossed that this can all be resolved today and that Charlie and his parents can find peace.

Their solicitor has gone out, not the barrister.

ItsNachoCheese · 13/07/2017 12:45

Wouldnt what was said in court 3 months ago not be noted? I thought everything said in court was? So surely they would know what was said then it could be checked against?

11122aa · 13/07/2017 12:45

*switched off

GabsAlot · 13/07/2017 12:46

thy did agreee sticth your right

then done a u turn an said they had new evideence

11122aa · 13/07/2017 12:46

The solicitor has probably only left to help Chris and Connie.

MyPuppyIsADick · 13/07/2017 12:46

@stitchglitched that was my immediate thought too.

annasfarmgirl · 13/07/2017 12:46

c and c acting like children having a tantrum

Let's be kind. They're going through hell.

Sirzy · 13/07/2017 12:47

Apparently it is comments where they said he hasn't got any quality of life which they are arguing about. The judge read them to them from a transcript.

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 13/07/2017 12:47

I think Lapin meant "declines" rather than "decides"?

sashh · 13/07/2017 12:47

Have just read to the following post on the other thread, not time to read this one yet but I will later

anyway

I agree with the principle of financial support for parents but I'm cautious about starting up another campaign. Not saying we shouldn't but I know there are already a number of charities that have this within their remit. I think the real problem may be that parents don't know about them, aren't told (many are small and may be localised) and there may be particular criteria to meet (e.g. cancer). I also agree that there should be clarity and simplicity around benefits for people in these very sad situations. Perhaps PICUs/NICUs could have lay staff who specialise in this aspect and whose role is to proactively support parents who need it.

I will not be working until September at the latest, I'm pretty good with data bases and spreadsheets. I can program but have never done an app BUT

Could we as a group form a searchable resource for parents so they can put in their circumstances and be advised of charities / individuals who can or are willing to help? Possibly with a small fund for people who fall through the cracks (obviously that is more complex and takes time and expertise.)

Could it be hosted on the MN website?

Due to the aforementioned not working I'm currently not in a position to contribute financially but I'd happily work on something like this, and I would happily feed a parent or even a family

LovelyBath77 · 13/07/2017 12:47

How can it continue without their solicitor? Won't they need to be there?

goodbyestranger · 13/07/2017 12:47

There will be a transcript of the court proceedings which will come back and bite them.

HouseOfMouse · 13/07/2017 12:47

Some of what the parents said in the April hearing is recorded in the court ruling. It includes comments that they accepted that his then quality of life was not worth sustaining.

Co1onelblimp · 13/07/2017 12:47

They' re an absoloute disgrace. I cannot for the like of me understand how they are being allowed to behave like this.

Ceto · 13/07/2017 12:48

I suspect the issue about what they said three months ago may relate to the concession recorded in the original judgment that they agreed that Charlie's current situation is not acceptable. Not only will it have been recorded, but they need to explain why they haven't denied it before now.

WankYouForTheMusic · 13/07/2017 12:49

Solicitor going out isn't that unusual when clients have left upset. Happened to me more once.

GabsAlot · 13/07/2017 12:49

thy might b in hell but arguing with a judge about somthing they said thmselves is ridiculous

11122aa · 13/07/2017 12:49

The solictor and Counsel are different people.

goodbyestranger · 13/07/2017 12:49

Sorry I do lots of crossed posts.

annasfarmgirl that's no reason to storm out petulantly.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 13/07/2017 12:50

Their solicitor left the court. Not their counsel. Different things, I believe

Apologies - my mistake Blush

It may be true that they don't need to be there for the hearing to continue, but if they're not they'll most certainly claim things were done "behind their backs"

Ceto · 13/07/2017 12:50

The solicitor doesn't have a direct function in court, they are essentially there to back up counsel - so the hearing can continue if they're not there.

HouseOfMouse · 13/07/2017 12:50

That April ruling has been public record for nearly 3 months - it can't come as news to them.

LapinR0se · 13/07/2017 12:50

Charlie Gard’s parents have not returned to court for last few minutes before the lunch break. Chris Gard left his son’s toy monkey behind.

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 13/07/2017 12:50

Storming out during the presentation of your own side is unusual!

MidnightAura · 13/07/2017 12:51

I wonder what was said to make them storm out.
