To pull someone up on their incorrect use of grammar in the classroom of children?

I'm working with another TA (new to this job) until the term breaks and we're not getting on. I used to be a parent at the school and thought she didn't mind me as I wasn't a fussy parent (she's always had the reputation for being a bit scary-this said by children and parents alike but she was good to mine and our paths rarely crossed)

She's very cool with me which I can handle and furthermore if she doesn't like me no problem as long as we can get the job done.

She keeps criticising my using certain phrases like "splendid" or "Cheese and Crackers" as a child-friendly expletive Grin even "marvellous" bothers her. This said, I've heard her over and over incorrectly speak to children. When one little boy told her his mum doesn't like him to say a phrase in that way-he was chided and told her way is perfectly ok.

I'm tempted to say something to her but worry she'll get a bit nasty.

YANBU but we need examples

Sorry, I refuse to believe you can make this many mistakes informally and yet never, ever make one in the classroom

Teachers make mistakes in the classroom. Some teachers make mistakes because they don't know. The new curriculum has been a learning curve for many.

But on a phone, shit happens. I know that I let things go when commenting on an informal thread on MN using my difficult to use phone. Missing apostrophes and even lower case where capitals should be used.

orlantina · 12/07/2017 18:23

The word is modelled

Some phones change to 'modeled'. The American spelling.

Alexkate2468 · 12/07/2017 18:23

Basket, I know but some people will argue anything Smile

Alexkate2468 · 12/07/2017 18:24

Praying - yes, I'm using the Google swipe keyboard.

nina2b · 12/07/2017 18:24

Come on, guys! If you use language competently, you are not going to be able to make errors just because you feel "lazy".

Alexkate2468 · 12/07/2017 18:24

Orlatina - not praying

orlantina · 12/07/2017 18:25

I have. Plenty of times. When using a phone keyboard that is tiny and I can't be arsed to change too much.

I didn't realise the OP was American!
Hmmm

Alex isn't teaching children though. I'm shit at maths . It doesn't matter as I know enough to get by. If I were teaching children, it would be a different story.

nina2b · 12/07/2017 18:26

Tbe phone excuse is just daft.

orlantina · 12/07/2017 18:27

Someone is asking for examples of the TA's grammatical errors - the TA who is the subject of the thread. May we see them?

BasketOfDeplorables · 12/07/2017 18:30

It can be a pain to edit on a phone, though. I'm very quick with a keyboard, but my phone is much harder to edit on. On here I could let a rogue apostrophe go because highlighting the character or moving the cursor can take so long that the conversation has moved on by the time I've posted.

That's ok. It's easy to make reading and comprehension mistakes on an online forum. Especially if you have a small phone screen. Grin

So, back to the OP...
Are you asking if you should pull her up (privately) on a mistake that was made in the classroom.
Or are you asking whether you should, in the classroom, pull her up on a mistake.

Are you her line manager? Mentor?

I observed a lesson today, and there was a grammar error on one slide. I pointed it out after the lesson, in my feedback. Mistakes should be highlighted. Constructively.

Alex has said she is a teacher!

TheFallenMadonna · 12/07/2017 18:33

So busy correcting my spelling I forgot question marks.

orlantina · 12/07/2017 18:35

I was working as a supply teacher in the deputy head's classroom. Year 6. We were doing BODMAS. The children kept getting some questions wrong. On questioning, it appeared that the children had been taught BODMAS incorrectly.

Now that was an interesting dilemma. WWYD if the pupils had been taught an incorrect method by the deputy head teacher when you are on supply?

orlantina · 12/07/2017 18:35

So busy correcting my spelling I forgot question marks

And a comma?

Grin

Sorry....
