A friend of mine had a cousin who happened to also be a cousin of Jim Kerr from Simple Minds. Although my friend was not actually related to Jim Kerr she referred to him as her half cousin. Another friend used to boast that she and Simon Le Bon were at school together, they did indeed go to the same school but not at the same time. Anyone else got any vague claims to fame?

Funnily enough I got a new one just today!!

I work at a school and was talking to sisters who have recently moved to this area. Just chatting when they come out with a great tentative link......

Their best friend from their old school is cousin to Mr Tumble's niece!!! He has passed on some of his very best joke to the kids - it was a very entertaining lunchtime 😀

BadTasteFlump · 13/07/2017 16:57

A few of my friends and my hairdresser shagged Gerard Butler

Can I be your friend?

Zaphodsotherhead · 13/07/2017 17:09

My aunt lived next door to Michael Crawford's grandmother, and met him once when he visited her.

I went to college with Ian Botham's brother. He was universally known as 'Ian Botham's brother' and I have no idea of his real name.

DaftWeeBun · 13/07/2017 17:42

Not simultaneously as far as I know but occasionally in nightclubs as I remember. There was lots of casual shagging between people working in different bars and hunners of disco drugs. All the ladies are super respectable now- dentists and accountants and the like. Anyone who went to Glasgow uni in the late 80's will know someone who's shagged him- he deserves a heritage trail. Liked an older lady too.

She rugged it though she had to stay over as couldn't get to train due to Queen Mum's funeral. He packed her back north pretty quickly the next day.
Later she wrote to a certain kindly doctor who was languishing at HMP but he didn't reply.
Last l heard she'd met her future husband on the internet, he lived somewhere in the Hebridies and they are to marry at some point but she cannot be with him yet as they need to be chaperoned due to his religion - she is not a youngster

Perhaps I should start a thread strange people I have known !

BluebellsareBlue · 13/07/2017 18:28

My ex fiancé's DF is best friends with Ray Winston.
I've only met his DF but he kissed me on the cheek with lips that may have pecked Ray Winston, therefore I conclude that Ray Winston and I are practically family now.

darbyshaw · 13/07/2017 18:28

Ooh this is a fun thread!

I once went out with a former England cricketer. I didn't know he was married at the time. 😳😡

My brother once touched Jon Bon Jovi at a gig. That one made me cry out of jealousy!

BluebellsareBlue · 13/07/2017 18:33

@VeryButchyRestingFace

A friend of a friend was at George Clooneys wedding. We saw the photos of her and Bill Murray getting into a speedboat...

I think I saw your friend in an article in the DM very recently.

I remember that.... pretty red head wearing a blue dress??

VeryButchyRestingFace · 13/07/2017 18:35

I remember that.... pretty red head wearing a blue dress??

The person I'm thinking of in the DM was a blonde solicitor.

ConcreteUnderpants · 13/07/2017 18:38

EastMidsGps How interestingly unhinged! Confused

Here's another one, my dentist's receptionist's FWB's brother once served Alan Rickman in Burger King. An arse, apparently (the brother and AR).

NoWordForFluffy · 13/07/2017 18:44

I went to uni with a lad whose best mate was Tim Wheeler from Ash's little brother!

Only vaguely tenuous!

BluebellsareBlue · 13/07/2017 18:50

@VeryButchyRestingFace
Ah.... there was only one female name mentioned and that was Amal's BF from Australia (I've just googled the pic I saw) so maybe that's the redhead and the other gorgeous one is the blonde solicitor. Smile

DoesHeWantToOrNot · 13/07/2017 18:53

Both me and dp have worked with Peter capaldis cousin.

I was within spitting distance of Barack Obama

BluebellsareBlue · 13/07/2017 18:55

My current NDN (in Scotland) used to have a flat in Manchester and his flat mate was Guy Garvie from Elbow. He told us a very funny tale of Guy having some "happy time" alone in his bed after being turned on by noises from the married ladies next door (he assumed it was a powerful toy being used and apparently got a bit er horny). When my neighbour came home Guy told him the story only to find out he was getting off to the noise of the worker next doors drill.

Also in the early 80's, my nana and grandad's NDN's, used to look after Jill Gascoigne's kids when she was performing in the Rep Theatre. I think this was before her cats eyes fame.

WestEndVBroadway · 13/07/2017 19:02

I just remembered that I shared a drink with Simon Le Bon. After a concert 100 years ago I asked one of the crew for the cup that Simon had been drinking from on stage, there was still some juice left in it. Our lips touched the same cup, that is practically kissing right?

My DM served Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra when she was cocktail waitress. She claims that Frank was very flirtatious.

John Hurt was a regular in the pub I worked in as a student.

DD has served several people from TOWIE and Spencer from Made in Chelsea when she worked in a pub.

proud history of serving alcohol in our family

Eminybob · 13/07/2017 19:08

Ken from Corrie tried to steal my pen (when I was waitressing and it was a nice pen that had been a gift, he tried to pocket it after using it to sign his card receipt)

Jupitar · 13/07/2017 19:16

Jamie Rednapp often drinks in my local pub, I never manage to be in the pub on his visits but lots of my mates are so we're practically friends right?

selfishcrab · 13/07/2017 19:17

My Grandma lived next door to Cary Grant when she was little.

gingergenius · 13/07/2017 19:18

I went to the school across the road from MacKenzie Crook and used to see him around town

gingergenius · 13/07/2017 19:21

Oh and my best friend used to live in the same road as Brian Can't

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 13/07/2017 19:21

My ex's aunt knows Engelbert Humperdinck's sister.

Zaphodsotherhead · 13/07/2017 19:22

Sleepingdogs - on my machine your post showed as
My DM served Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra when she was cock

and I had to come back onto the thread just to find out what the hell your DM was actually doing.

Dawndonnaagain · 13/07/2017 19:22

Brother used to live next door to Timothy Spall.
First ex h went to school with Clive Anderson and Michael Portillo. Same year too.
Went out with someone whose sister was married to a very famous guitarist.

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 13/07/2017 19:25
