I was on a bus earlier. A young woman in her 20s was on her phone yacking away at top volume from the minute she got onto the bus; finishing one call and immediately calling someone else. This went on for about 20 minutes and eventually a middle aged woman sitting directly in front of her turned around and said 'Can you please just stop shouting into your phone and show some consideration. You're doing my head in'.

Younger woman looked a bit shocked but ended her call and we all got a bit of peace.

AIBU to wish I had the courage to do something similar. I am fed up of people around me gabbing away loudly into their phones on public transport, barely pausing to draw breath for the entire journey.

No spartacus

I am one of THOSEV travellers who books their own seat so I can keep myself to myself. I don't have bags on the seat. Nor do I spend the entire journey waiting to leap up. All it takes is a small "excuse me" and I know you're there.

When I was a kid my parents taught me to be aware of how my actions impacted other people. That included things like not getting in the way (eg not blocking the isles in supermarkets, walking single file on a path to allow others to get by rather than making them step in the road), not playing music so others can hear it (eg not in the garden, or not indoors at full volume) and keeping my sodding voice down in public so other people don't have to hear my life story at full volume. Some people clearly weren't taught the same, and consequently behave in ways that disturb (and potentially irritate the hell out of) other people. The lack of self-awareness amongst many is staggering.

Nothing wrong with being on your phone in pubic transport. Unfortunately, there seems to be a substantial minority of mobile phone users who seem to be unaware of the massive network/mast infrastructure that exists solely to ensure that they don't actually have to SHOUT for the person at the other end to hear them.

Are you doing something that is usually best done in private?

Are you doing something unnecessary that might annoy or irritate the people around you?

If yes, don't do it then.

A private phone call ticks both boxes IMO.

Not hard to make your loud braying call when you get home or when you're not in an enclosed space where people are trapped and forced to listen to one side of your tedious conversation.
