Yes, Laura must be Chris' sister. Connie is called Yates not Gard.

TheWeeWitch · 11/07/2017 12:03

Laura Gard seems to be Chris' sister I think. Connie calls herself by her own name, Connie Yates.

QuizteamBleakley · 11/07/2017 12:03

A quote from a supporter on the 'official' page:

  • Tomorrow the United States Congress are meeting to give Charlie citizenship here so he can receive medication. Once he's a citizen of the United States the judge can't do anything. We'll be sending over FU BRIT'S to bring our citizen Charlie and his parents home!!! The whole world is watching in disgust. Hang on Charlie.. Trump's coming.
TheWeeWitch · 11/07/2017 12:03

Ah. Cross post!

Sluttybartfast · 11/07/2017 12:04

Charlie's Army are now going on about Charlie getting American citizenship. Is it really possible to grant citizenship to someone who is the subject of a court order in the UK?

I could see some Congressmen voting to do it to further their own agendas, but any attempt to actually override UK court jurisdiction would, IMO, be a diplomatic international scandal of massive proportions. It would basically give Trump, and the US, the right to overrule any UK court decision they felt like, which the UK would NOT tolerate.

Charlie has no legitimate connection with America, and I doubt there's even a hospital there that would accept him currently; it's a non-starter IMO, just a lot of hot air from US politicians playing to the lowest common denominator of their bases.

Sirzy · 11/07/2017 12:04

Wtf? This is just getting out of hand now.

Poor child.

ShatnersWig · 11/07/2017 12:05

Latest is someone suggesting they chip in to get admin of CA FB page to buy some stuff for Connie & Chris (body sprays, shampoos, chocolate, magazines - all gift wrapped) to let them know the army is thinking of them. Within about 15 comments someone suggested it would be better just to send them money so they could spend it how they liked. Lots of great ideas and people repeating the screenshot of Connie's bank account details so everyone can send them money directly so they know it gets to them.....

And people reporting that there were some "appalling" comments about the Barmy Army on GOSH FB page by "haters" defending these "murderous scum" and this brought out "cunts will always be cunts"

leojohnsmummy · 11/07/2017 12:06

i don't think this is for charlies parents at all, they want their son to be as healthy as he can be and live a good life, yes i know this could kill him faster but if you was in their shoes you'd do anything to make you child better.

i say give them a chance, you never know this could safe so many kid's lives. you have to take chances sometimes, because that's when you come across miracles that could change our lives!

MissHavishamsleftdaffodil · 11/07/2017 12:06

i dont undrstand the 10% quote eithr why has noone corrected her or in court mentioned it

Joshua Rozenberg put up a tweet regarding something the GOSH lawyer said about this, and the tweet barely flashed up - I was watching the live feed - before it vanished again. It wasn't up long enough to see exactly what it said but was about why parents had said this 10% in media interviews, bearing in mind the lawyer had just denied them saying it at all. I would guess it either breached reporting restrictions in place, or the BBC weren't happy sharing that information.

ShatnersWig · 11/07/2017 12:08

leo You're saying the weight of medical science is wrong, a handful of people who signed a letter but didn't provide any actual evidence and Charlie's parents know better, and that you think it's perfectly acceptable to treat this poor little baby as a lab rat.

REALLY?

ScrumpyBetty · 11/07/2017 12:09

I can't bring myself to look at the CA facebook page. The unmerited hatred and abuse for the hard working, dedicated staff at GOSH is so wrong. I fear what might happen if the trial decides that there is no new evidence and rules against the wishes of Connie and her husband. I fear there will be riots and protests and staff at GOSH may need police protection.

ScrumpyBetty · 11/07/2017 12:11

Leo- the treatment that they want to test on Charlie has never been tested on humans before! It hasn't even been tested on mice!

Sirzy · 11/07/2017 12:11

He is a child not some sort of medical experiment

darbyshaw · 11/07/2017 12:15

The parents are being supported in completely the wrong way and if CA had even an ounce of sense to share between them, they would realise this.

Call it mob mentality, sheeple, opening the lid to the idiot box, etc etc, but what you've essentially got is a family who have whipped up a shit storm and presented some carefully chosen information (and some outright lies) regarding their very ill little boy to a bunch of morons. CA are obsessed, but ultimately, despite what they think, don't know, care about, or love Charlie. A bored bunch of idiots who aren't capable of realising what damage they are doing to the family and the hospital and ultimately a defenceless child.

As to the motivation of the parents, they probably do genuinely believe they are doing the right thing for Charlie but I suspect they have lost all perspective and have convinced themselves they know better than the doctors. Quite clearly they don't, but they are being supported in the wrong way by the wrong people and are unlikely to be capable of being persuaded otherwise. I don't think they are wilfully lying about GOSH, I think they are deluded and there probably isn't anyone in their 'inner circle' who is able to make a breakthrough and convince them of the truth.

Sadly I suspect that no matter what happens with this latest court hearing the family will always come up with a reason why GOSH are lying and why the life support should be maintained. I don't know how educated the parents are (or even if that would make a difference) but I just don't see anyone being able to get through to them.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 11/07/2017 12:16

leojohnsmummy

So it's ok to use a very sick child as a medical experiment? To try a treatment that hasn't even been tested on mice in the hope of a "miracle".

And I can categorically say I wouldn't react in this way if it was my child. Aside from anything I trust that the people around me would remind me that I do not own my child, he is a person in his own right and deserves dignity and respect, not to be used as some sort of medical experiment to appease me.

I feel the deepest sympathy for Charlie and his parents but this stopped being about him a long time ago.

Sluttybartfast · 11/07/2017 12:19

The nucleoside therapy HAS been tested on humans - just not humans (or even mice) with Charlie's specific variant of mitochondrial disorder. That's the relevant aspect. There's no reason to believe it would have side effects that might kill him (although flying him somewhere else conceivably might do him harm and distress him) but everything that has effects has side effects.

Ellie56 · 11/07/2017 12:19

Who exactly are these 7 doctors who have written this letter about the "new" evidence? It worries me that maybe they are more interested in having a guinea pig to further their research than in Charlie's best interests. As has been well documented, it has not been tested on mice never mind humans!

LovelyBath77 · 11/07/2017 12:21

Someone mentioned on the last thread about an email or place to give a message of support to GOSH. Please could you share it if possible in case others would like to do the same. Thanks.

goodbyestranger · 11/07/2017 12:21

Scrumpy given what was said even in the short hearing yesterday, it's incredibly unlikely to go any way other than to confirm the original decision. I imagine this so-called 'army' is full of hot air and the police (and courts, if it came to it) would clamp down exceptionally heavily on anyone who thought they could harm anyone related to the hospital or legal team and get away with it. I would expect the story to go quiet very quickly once the judgment is over, because the whole thing is looking increasingly one-sided.

TheWeeWitch · 11/07/2017 12:23

@LovelyBath77 the GOSH FB page responded to me when I sent a message of support last week.

Ellie56 · 11/07/2017 12:24

It's so sad that it has come to all this. Sometimes the internet has a lot to answer for. I feel so sorry for Charlie and his parents.

LovelyBath77 · 11/07/2017 12:26

OK so the GOSH FB page, thanks. I expect would also be a contact on their webpage.

LovelyBath77 · 11/07/2017 12:27

Yes it seems the judge specifically wants to see new evidence, and that is it, so can;t see how this will change the decision. As far as I know they already had this information previously?

LovelyBath77 · 11/07/2017 12:28

Leo GOSH were going to try something but then he declined and they couldn't anymore.
