Yes, Ellie, and it must be extra stressful knowing that they have previously dismissed their team of lawyers on the eve of a court appearance.

TheWeeWitch · 11/07/2017 17:40

Tinsel it was more comment on the craziness of the arc of events since then.

Doubledottvremote · 11/07/2017 17:40

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/jul/11/karanbir-cheema-dies-allergic-reaction-cheese-allegedly-forced-on-him just read this. Terribly sad for the boy. I'm fairly certain he would have been in picu. And while I knew there were other families it seems to bring it home more when you hear their story and see their suffering. To have to have made potentially huge decisions about treatment for a child when you have people bringing in random American pro lifers and having people chanting murderer outside would have just made the experience even more traumatic. I really hope these parents here and the other are protected from the horrid comments of protesters

DarthMaiden · 11/07/2017 17:40

Ok - the money.

To balance recent posts, I would counter that if Charlie's parents believe this treatment will work they will need money to support that (US or Italy).

Equally I think it's fair to say that they believe that money would also be needed for his ongoing care and therapy.

Hence the need to still fund raise.

I'll admit I think some items are crass, but to them taking items people have produced for sale to pay for treatment and expenses is obviously worth the positive outcome they believe it will facilitate.

They have stated that any funds not used for their son would be donated to research/support for children with the same condition.

I think we need to be really careful about expressing any opinion on the money raised. I used the word defamation in relation to posts being made about GOSH on FB but it holds equality true here when insinuating that their intent for fundraising is anything less than they have said when there is no proof of that.

Hundreds of them are sending parcels of clothes and been told by admin to send to GOSH ITU for them to deal with.

Seriously, as if they haven't got enough to do? Where are they going to store all this?

ShatnersWig · 11/07/2017 17:44

One or two members of Barmy now saying they are leaving the page as they disapprove of some of the activity and comments, even going so far as to call some of them spiteful bitches

Rabbitnothare · 11/07/2017 17:45

It's like the Dax fundraising situation all over again.

Lonelymummyof1 · 11/07/2017 17:45

What I was trying to explain to them over the last few weeks was theae are facts off the mitochondria.

Genectically passed on mitochondria is always 100 percent passed down by mother not father.
There is so many types that finding a cure is extremely hard.
Mito will effect everyone differently and organs will be effected differently.
The eariler the onset ( in early months of life ) especially when heart, lungs or brains are effected early on will mean survival is next to none.
Yet some mito diseases are not life limited but are life changing and can onset at any time.

Mito can effect bowels and livers im these children when the bowel fails and then the liver they are not eligible for a transplant as the same process would happen again...it could buy them some time but it is not worth the amount they would get put through.
Many mitochondria children die of other organ failures - bowel , liver , kidneys.
Is this also murder by not listing them on the transplant list ?

sodablackcurrant · 11/07/2017 17:45

Has anyone here donated to the cause?

I haven't but then I don't do the FB or crowdfunding or the merchandise shyte anyway. The treatment is free, the lawyers are free.

If the child is allowed to go to America, then the mob and the warriors in the US who are behind this should fundraise in that country for Charlie. QED.

WannaBe · 11/07/2017 17:45

DarthMaiden but they had been denied their final appeal and Charlie's life support was due to be switched off. There was no treatment, but even if there had been, any money raised needs to be shown to be above board and accountable for. You can't just give your personal bank account over the internet and encourage people to make direct transfers.

And a merchandise shop is... well there are no words to describe the inappropriacy of that. None. It's turned Charlie into a business commodity.

Zoflorabore · 11/07/2017 17:47

CA have now set up a fund for Connie and Chris for Living expenses after a member suggested it. Lots and lots of offers already.
The best way to donate apparently is straight to Connie's personal bank account.

Also it showed a "demonstration " today that said " only 4 of us turned up " so it seems a lot of them are only happy to be contributing to the cause behind a screen, there are nearly 70,000 members.

SilverLining17 · 11/07/2017 17:48

Charlie's parents look ill. Their appearance doesn't scream 'we are so pleased to be making money.'

I don't think it is about the money to them at all. I also only have sympathy for them as I cannot imagine being in their situation. I know other parents have been and have listened to medical advice and made different decisions and I don't agree with the choices Charlie's parents are making but I also cannot judge them for it. I actually can think of very few worse situations to be in.

I do judge CA though who are completely moronic and also a little bit the wider family. They seem to be giving the wrong sort of support. If charlie's parents backed down now would CA be accusing them of colluding with murder? They've backed themselves into a corner and now it's an impossible situation. It already was I guess but now it is so much more complicated.

Rabbitnothare · 11/07/2017 17:48

I am watching that ShatnersWig, disgusting. Alfie hasn't even reached his target and they just posted to see if anyone would donate.

Wouldn't it have been a nice gesture to make the £900 up from the two million of the other fund?

Instead, apparently, the family asked for the post to be removed.

sodablackcurrant · 11/07/2017 17:49

Follow. The. Money.

Poor child is a commodity.

@WannaBe

Here's a sample of the Charlie 'goodies' (her word) sold by his Auntie.

nobody is too professional or well trained to be affected by bullying and intimidation exactly. Whatever brave face they put on, you and your colleagues being called murderers will start to grate. I've had our lovely nurses come and steal my son for a cuddle because of how parents have spoken to them. I've seen student nurses (and I can only presume how many of those pass through PICU at GOSH) in tears over comments - how is this kind of attitude to caring proffesionals going to impact on them?
I hope there is alto of support.

Apparently someone is already trying to sort Alfie air fresheners...

SimonsPies · 11/07/2017 17:49

I feel so sorry for Charlie and the staff, and for the other families with children currently in GOSH, some of whom will be in a similar situation. People will be spending the last moments with their dying children surrounded by this circus and that can never be made right.

LapinR0se · 11/07/2017 17:50

I would please ask people to refrain from posting anything about the funds that have been raised and continue to be raised.

It's distasteful in the extreme and not in keeping with the ethos of mumsnet.

Rabbitnothare · 11/07/2017 17:50

Yet again they have blocked and removed the people who objected from the page.
They just want an echo chamber.

LogicalPsycho · 11/07/2017 17:50

Connie Yates bank details are at the bottom of the page. The family were promoting the shop on Twitter recently so they're fully aware of it.

SilverLining17 · 11/07/2017 17:50

Some of CA are emotionally unstable and very immature. Saying they love Charlie as much as their own children? I highly doubt it. It's a bit insulting actually.

Co1onelblimp · 11/07/2017 17:53

The parents bank account details on the CA page.!!! I didn'"t think my opinion of the parents could have sunk any lower. This is a new lowShock

ShatnersWig · 11/07/2017 17:53

Lapin. Why is commenting about what some of us feel is distasteful, distasteful?

RMC123 · 11/07/2017 17:54

This post is on the Official Charlie Gard page, not Charlie's Army. This is the one managed by the parents . This was posted 16 hours ago. Around the time of the court case. It clearly makes the 10% claim that the lawyer said the parents hadn't made!!
Am I going mad?
