I suppose that was gosh's fault too.

RMC123 · 10/07/2017 18:59

Think I have finally caught up with the thread!

So basically the new evidence, is just the old evidence with a few more signatures on the bottom and possibly a few more statistics about how it might work in other people with a different strain of the disease to Charlie? And it wasn't ready to be presented today?
I doubt this comes under the umbrella of the 'dramatic new evidence' the judge said he would need to see.

The CA page is ridiculous. I have reported some of the ' murder' comments. Including one which suggested that morphine was being given to make Charlie brain damaged. This is because GOSH were on the back foot after the 'leaked' MRI scans proved there was no brain damage. Someone suggesting that Connie needed to make sure she had Charlie's Red baby book / health record. Also to check that these were written in pen so they couldn't be tampered with.
You can't argue with stupid

dmrat

I didn't see the previous thread so thanks for the heads up

Either way he doesn't look like a healthy little boy in the slightest

Incitatis · 10/07/2017 19:01

I wouldn't think they would give him that many calories. The dietitians match the calorie intake to what the patient needs based on careful measurements. They don't fatten people up like that, particularly if they're completely unable to move.

Alittlepotofrosie · 10/07/2017 19:02

@SkintAsASkintThing

Would you want to live like the boy you describe? I wouldn't.

GabsAlot · 10/07/2017 19:03

to the postr who said why not let him live thy know people that cant breath alone so why not

coz its bloody cruel we let animals have more diginity than human beings

thelonelyhamster · 10/07/2017 19:04

Weirdly, I've managed to have a couple of respectful twitter conversations with some american (pro-life, anti-NHS) politician types about the whole situation. We had to agree to disagree in the end, but in contrast to the CA stuff a lot of you are seeing, there are people out there willing to give the issue a bit more considered thought than just 'OMG, the doctors are murderers'.

There are just an awful lot of people hearing bits and pieces from scattered media sources and I think the sheer volume of stuff being posted everywhere must be really unhelpful to the family too. Even if they do encourage it.

kmc1111 · 10/07/2017 19:06

However, can anyone honestly say that they wouldn't do the same in Charlie's parents position?

Yes, I can. I was in their position, and I did the exact opposite of everything they've done. As did all the other parents of terminally ill children I met on the ward and later in support groups.

It is incredibly rare that parents fight medical opinion like this. Children die of terminal illnesses everyday, but a big drawn out court case like this only happens once in a blue moon. What the Gard's are doing here isn't a 'normal reaction' or 'what parents do'. Every aspect of their behaviour is highly abnormal.

The vast, vast majority of parents see through their grief, accept the situation for what it is, and they then do everything they can to prevent further suffering. That's how it should be. As a parent who's been there, I fully believe that parents who can't manage this should be stripped of their parental rights, in a highly expedited manner. It absolutely horrifies me that a child is suffering pointlessly right now because two people living in a complete fantasy land have the power to draw out his death.

I wouldn't have been able to live with myself if I did to my late daughter what the Gard's have done to their son.

TheWeeWitch · 10/07/2017 19:07

Just for a bit of perspective -

I entered the $2,500,000 USD (2 million pounds) that they have raised for Charlie into the Life you Can Save impact calculator.

I suspect that a lot of people will simply go on what they are hearing from the parents and don't realise how sick Charlie is - or, for that matter, that this has already gone through the court system at the highest level. The original US doctor fell into this category, hence his changing his position once he was apprised of the facts.

BoreOfWhabylon · 10/07/2017 19:09

DailyMailReadersAreThick It was me who, posted about the fat/oedema. I'm a nurse not a doctor though.

We can't really tell from the photos we've seen whether it's fat, oedema or both but he certainly isn't a 'thriving' or 'bonny' baby.

I expect that on Thursday GOSH will update the judge about his medical condition.

Yamayo · 10/07/2017 19:09

I hadn't looked at the website but this is just... demented.

This is a quote from one of their posters.

Praying in Jesus name for immediate results, because only God's power can destroy the enemy alliance surrounding this child, as it is attempted murder and rights violations so high up that the beaurocracy would take too long to cut through. Praying for an assignment of angelic authority to overshadow the family and for the high court of heaven to preside over this case! This is a purposeful situation for the people of the UK to stand up to the natzi government. You all need prayer in Jesus' name and to become armed again.

OhUnpretentiousSpud · 10/07/2017 19:10

Alittlepotofrosie · 10/07/2017 19:11

If you believe in God Then surely you must accept that he caused Charlies condition in the first place and that if God had his way Charlie would have died months ago.

thatdearoctopus · 10/07/2017 19:11

One FB poster posted some photos (from Connie's previous releases), all from different angles and differently-scaled, and said that even her small children could see for themselves how much his head had grown. I think she thought that proved that the highly-qualified medics at this world-renowned paediatric hospital (you know, those ones who have access to measuring equipment and are monitoring Charlie constantly) didn't know what they were talking about.

DarthMaiden · 10/07/2017 19:12

@RMC123

It's still unclear what the new evidence is tbh as it wasn't presented.

Based on what was tweeted the Judge wanted to understand if the treatment had the ability to improve structural brain damage. This question was not answered by the parents legal team other than to say they will present more evidence.

To the best of my knowledge nothing to this effect has been released by the family - only the ability of the treatment to potentially pass the blood brain barrier - which does not address the issue of brain damage already sustained. If they had such evidence why not present it?

Equality shocking was the information he is now on morphine as Doctors believe he is in pain. This is obviously at odds with statements made by his parents.

GabsAlot · 10/07/2017 19:12

religious nuts who contradict themselves if gosh didnt hlp him he would already be gone

WankYouForTheMusic · 10/07/2017 19:14

Btw anyone who thinks MNers are criticising CA because they're not middle class (are they not?) clearly hasn't ever been on any McCann threads.

LogicalPsycho · 10/07/2017 19:17

Oh ffs that link, Spud Shock

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
Gosh are now literally worse than Hitler.

Fuck me.

There is a certain mentality of 'life at all costs'.

I was brought up in the North West so the Tony Bland case was on our local TV and I remember many an argument with my mum about whether he should be allowed to die. (For any who don't know the name, he was the 96th Hillsborough victim, he was in a persistent vegetative state, his family and doctors wanted to stop nutrition, they had to go to court to avoid a murder charge).

My mum was of the life at all costs school of thought.

I know if she were still alive today she would be firmly on the CA side.

thatdearoctopus · 10/07/2017 19:19

And let's be frank, who's more likely to be using Charlie to further their own cause for profit? The US guy who's offered this "treatment" (aka needing a guinea pig to further his own research)? Or GOSH, the aforementioned world-renowned paediatric hospital run by the nhs and topped up by donations, whose only concern has ever been to put Charlie first and ensure his needs are met as far as they are able?

ScrumpyBetty · 10/07/2017 19:19

So sad to see hard working nurses, nursing assistants, doctors of GOSH slated by a bunch of people with no intelligence or understanding of the situation. It's all so sad. Poor poor Charlie.

11122aa · 10/07/2017 19:21

When was Charlie first diagnosed as having the condition.

redshoeblueshoe · 10/07/2017 19:23

sash - I do remember the Tony bland case. My DM was a very strict catholic, but she felt it was cruel to keep him alive, because that was not a life.

thatdearoctopus · 10/07/2017 19:23

Oh look. Another thick as mince CA member has come up with a brilliant suggestion for the professors and doctors at GOSH. If Charlie is in pain (which of course, they all "know" he's not), then they should give him paracetamol first! Not go straight to morphine.

Who knew?
