The whole "commenting here to placemark" thing doesn't bother me but I know it gets some people's backs up. AIBU in telling you about an awesome new discovery I made today Grin ?? Namely if you hover your mouse over the bottom right corner of the last post you've read, it gives you the option to "bookmark" it (the option i hidden until you hover). Then, when you next open the thread it takes you straight to that post! It can be done on any post in the thread, not just the last one, so also useful when RL unavoidably encroaches in the middle of reading a particularly juicy thread Grin. My ghast is well and truly flabby right now!!! Or do most people know about this anyway and I'm just a sad loser failing to be helpful??

I hoped this was going to be another oxo cubes squash thread Sad

Tazerface · 10/07/2017 11:31

I knew that but watching a thread I haven't posted on doesn't seem to add it to my watch list. Bookmark works though.

Nikephorus · 10/07/2017 11:35

I didn't know that Grin

ceecee32 · 10/07/2017 11:41

I had heard of it but could never find it - thank you to whoever put the link up to turn it on.

(and how daft to have the default set to 'off')

SamoyedSam · 10/07/2017 11:41

Ahaaaa @soup....the plot thickens...!!!

Didn't know this! However when I click on the three dots on the mobile site this is what I get....no bookmark option. Anyone know why?

SoupDragon · 10/07/2017 11:53

You realise that when you @ someone you need to use their full name otherwise you send an email to whoever has the abbreviated name you used...?

I have it turned off now but I did get several emails where someone had used @ with a person's partial nickname which, unfortunately, was one of my many many banked name changes.

ceecee32 · 10/07/2017 11:55

When you have bookmarked something - where do you find it again ?

QuackPorridgeBacon · 10/07/2017 12:00

I barely watch and if I'm interested I just keep the tab open on my phone. If I accidentally close the tab I just reopen it.

I don't have an issue with placemarking but, I do get annoyed with those who try so hard to be funny whilst doing so Hmm

PassiveAgressiveQueen · 10/07/2017 12:03

On the mobile site you swipe right (or left) and a menu appears

QuackPorridgeBacon · 10/07/2017 12:04

areyougoing mine does (phone, chrome browser). Never understood why some would see and some don't even when both using the site in the browser.

mumdebump · 10/07/2017 12:06

Areyougoingtoeatthat you need to go to talk preferences (someone linked how to get to this on the first page of this thread) and select 'display bookmark links' and save.

Longhairmightcare · 10/07/2017 12:06

I use this constantly, I bookmark the last comment I've read on any thread, so if I return to it it automatically jumps to the last post I read. It will always return to that post if you don't then move the book mark. Just re-bookmark the last comment/post and it will 'move' the bookmark for next time.
I do this unconsciously now out of habit, works well for me always can continue reading where I left off.
I also 'watch' the threads I'm interested in saves commenting with basically nothing that adds to the thread. But yes as pp says if you're in to deletion messages you won't see them.

mumdebump · 10/07/2017 12:08

Is there a way to highlight all posts by the OP in a long thread?

SamoyedSam · 10/07/2017 12:10

@ceecee I think when you close and then open the thread again, it takes you straight to your bookmarked post.

FruBayerischOla · 10/07/2017 12:12

Tazer, are clicking on Watch this thread before you close the thread?

ceecee, you don't need to find the bookmark when you reopen a thread where you have a B/M -it finds you!

TwoFs · 10/07/2017 12:14

areyougoingtoeatthat You have to be signed in to use the bookmark option on the mobile site.

ceecee32 · 10/07/2017 12:15

So I have to watch them as well as bookmark - not really worth the effort to be honest. Might as well just watch

FruBayerischOla · 10/07/2017 12:17

mumde, where I posted, up thread, the link to Customise/Preferences, go into that and you have the option to highlight both the OP's posts and your own - don't forget to Save!

I think there might be some differences on the App though - but I don't use the App, so an App expert will be able to help.

Allthebestnamesareused · 10/07/2017 12:17

Doesn't work on my desk top unfortunately Sad

Bluntness100 · 10/07/2017 12:19

I knew yes and it works fine for me on my iPad.

FruBayerischOla · 10/07/2017 12:21

No, you don't have to Watch - but if you're not posting then it's easier to find a thread you're interested in.

FruBayerischOla · 10/07/2017 12:23

All, have you turned the bookmark option on in Customise/Preferences?

misit · 10/07/2017 12:38

I have my laptop set at 25 posts per page so if I start reading a long thread that could get deleted, I find it useful to click on the "show all messages" thingy and then I don't lose any because its one long page. Took me years to twig on to that, I'm hopeless.

Longhairmightcare · 10/07/2017 13:20

ceecee: So I have to watch them as well as bookmark - not really worth the effort to be honest. Might as well just watch

You don't have to be watching to bookmark. If you are watching and don't bookmark when you leave, you have to scroll down the thread again to find where you left off. If you've bookmarked it will take you straight there.
