I thought someone said yesterday that today's hearing is only a preliminary one and there is another one on Thursday?

thatdearoctopus · 10/07/2017 10:02

And as a very minor side issue, I do find it annoying that America clearly thinks that they're the ones who can sort out us inept Brits by sticking their oar in.

11122aa · 10/07/2017 10:02

Have just listened to the Interview on Today. Very Persuasive but constant snide attacks at GOSH were deeply irritating. She also attacked her own lawyer. How does he enjoy things but not be in pain.
This is going to end with them calling GOSH murderes in the statement after the death.

GinSoakedTwitchyPony · 10/07/2017 10:02

About today's hearing. Two people, one of them being Connie and the other the American woman in the pastor's entourage have said that today is a preliminary hearing and there is another scheduled for Thursday.
I don't know if Thursday's will definitely go ahead, whether it depends on evidence presented today or what. Just reporting what was said yesterday on two separate news reports that I heard.

Ceto
With respect to Nick Ferrari, he has very personal experience of this type of situation. His brother was in a coma and drs wanted ro turn off life support and family refused and he survived , so he always had strong opinions on this subject

Maudlinmaud · 10/07/2017 10:03

I think I read that there are two court dates set, today and wednesday or Thursday.

11122aa · 10/07/2017 10:03

And Connie said the judgement is thursday.

NatashaGurdin · 10/07/2017 10:04

Don't parents have responsibilities rather than rights? Do the members of CA think their children are their property to do with as they wish?

I heard the mother on Sky News (a telephone interview) and she compared this experimental treatment to insulin for diabetics at one point, how is that similar in any way?

Ellie56 · 10/07/2017 10:05

I would like to hope that this would be the very final judgement

I agree but if it doesn't go in the parents' favour isn't there an automatic right of appeal?

thatdearoctopus · 10/07/2017 10:08

It has been said that Charlie responds to tickling. Might that not also mean he can feel pain?

11122aa · 10/07/2017 10:08

Trump will tweet again at some point. Perhaps not until Charlie passes and he can make a political point.
I can see You Gov doing a poll soon- yes it is crass but it is an issue of national debate.

Stopnamechanging · 10/07/2017 10:09

thatdearoctopus, it depends who made the claim, unless the doctors were the source of that information, I would completely disregard it.

GabsAlot · 10/07/2017 10:11

unfortunatly the wrightstuff show now talking about about how hes got a 10 percent chance of cure an how the othr girl is cured now and thy should be given a chance

such misinformation getting bandied about really doesnt help

Maudlinmaud · 10/07/2017 10:12

I keep asking the same question.
How have the parents and the hospital drawn such different conclusions?
I understand grief and desperation may be one explanation, but no parent wants to see their child suffer. The fact that the parents believe their child is not suffering is alarming.

JaneEyre70 · 10/07/2017 10:12

Did anyone else listen to her on BBC1 this morning? She actually said live on air that Charlie was easy to move because he isn't on oxygen or anything and they've claimed on Twitter that he is fit to fly. What does she think the ventilator is supplying him with..... honest to God, I could cry this morning.

11122aa · 10/07/2017 10:12

If he still responds to anything, videos of him doing so would be released.

ZerbaPadnaTigre · 10/07/2017 10:16

Regarding him watching the iPad, I think his sight is another point his parents disagree with the hospital on. A few weeks ago, his mum posted a photo of him with his eyes half open and the comment '"A picture speaks a thousand words. As quoted from the judgement . . . 'He is not consistently able to open his eyes enough to be able to see. Indeed, this leads to the difficulty that his brain is failing to learn to see'."

Of course, one photo doesn't prove that he can consistently open his eyes or open them enough to learn to see but his parents seem to think he can.

GabsAlot · 10/07/2017 10:16

bcause theyre in denial maud

theyve disagreed with GOSH for so long now i dont think thed believe anything anymore

JaneEyre70 · 10/07/2017 10:19

They just said on Sky that there is the hearing at 2pm today and another one pencilled in for Thursday - so it seems likely that given this was only announced on Friday, the Judge won't make a decision today.

Maudlinmaud · 10/07/2017 10:21

Genuinely terrifying.

Laiste · 10/07/2017 10:21

She actually said live on air that Charlie was easy to move because he isn't on oxygen or anything ... What does she think the ventilator is supplying him with.....

Why isn't anyone challenging her? I don't understand it. It's bloody infuriating. She's set herself up for all this media attention - courting the media - charlies representative - on his case - why has no one got the balls to ask her what the hell she's on about? It's one thing for their FB account to be tweaked to censor any rational thinking, that's a private arena, but it's quite another for an impartial interviewer on TV to be sat there nodding and smiling at the utter rubbish.

meddie · 10/07/2017 10:23

I used to transfer ICU patients and he does sound stable on his vent with no oxygen requirement, but its still not that simple. You dont just put him on a trolley with his vent. You would need enough of an air supply for the long transfer, plus spares. A power supply on the airplane that is compatible with his ventilator and equipment.A spare ventilator and back up batteries in case of mechanical failures. Drugs in case of deterioration or arrest or to anaesthetise for reintubation in case his tube became dislodged. You basically need access to equipment you would normally need or have available on an ICU in case of any eventuality in the air. Not to mention that pressure changes at altitude have an effect on oxygenation, so though he doesn't need oxygen at present, he might in flight. you would need a doctor and nurse at the minimum, plus a way to secure the trolley and equipment in flight in case of turbulence.
It can be done, but its not a simple operation and needs to be planned meticulously, because once you are at 35000 feet and something goes wrong you cant just call for more equipment or staff. medical evacuations happen all the time, but they are not without risks, its only done if the benefits outweigh the risks.
Its not just a case of taking charlie and his vent. you have to take a mobile ICU with him.

Stopnamechanging · 10/07/2017 10:23

It's vaccines now, welcome anti vax brigade Hmm

I don't think the hospital know what Charlie has and this would explain why they are so determine not to have a specialist from America to look at him ... can't help but have it cross my mind that Charlie was fine till November would that be Charlie is 11 months old so November Charlie would of been 12 weeks 12 weeks !! Vaccine jabs could have gave Charlie problems and if they did let me tell you no doctor in this country anywhere would be quick to stand up and blame the vaccine they would blame everything but the vaccine .. Barbara loe fisher will tell you a lot about vaccines and neurological damage... thinking of you all today #savecharliegard💙💙💙🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

teaandakitkat · 10/07/2017 10:26

So does a ventilator just give you normal air from the atmosphere? And so Charlie doesn't need oxygen tanks as such?

Poor wee man x

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 10/07/2017 10:27

I though Connie said on Nick Ferrari that when when they went to do the vaccines Charlie wasn't feeling right so they didn't do them.
