I'm out of sympathy for Charlie's parents and relatives. I'm just purely angry on what effect of less funding would do to other children who still have some hope of treatment from GOSH. And I will donate to them.

thatdearoctopus · 09/07/2017 22:44

Whoever runs the offices twitter account has just today declared Charlie "fit to fly"

Hmm Hmm Yeah, and according to their assessment of his "chunky, thriving" self, they'll be watching him tucking into the in-flight meals with gusto too?

AlabamaShakes · 09/07/2017 22:49

Mucky - god knows, but surely there has to be someone with common sense in the family, even if they agree with the experimental treatment etc. The Pastor situation is very sinister and totally not needed. Everyone around them must see that, or are the parents just not listening? I don't know but it's awful watching it unfold

muckypup73 · 09/07/2017 22:52

AlabamaShakes, its just crazy, it truly is, I was watching the interveiw before and on it they said that this treatment might make him into a normal little boy and I feel like they have been given false hope and that is totally wrong.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 09/07/2017 22:56

EdSheeran I agree with your post too. Charlie's mum looks absolutely haunted to me.

We may not agree with the parents and may not act in the same way BUT that doesn't mean people should be implying they are doing it for any other reason than for Charlie.

DarthMaiden · 09/07/2017 23:00

I'm certainly not out of sympathy for his parents.

I might not agree with the choices they are making but I feel nothing but sadness for the situation they are in.

I feel they are increasingly being manipulated and even exploited by people around them, using Charlie's situation for financial, political or cause based gain.

KnitFastDieWarm · 09/07/2017 23:01

I feel desperately sorry for the parents. However, I hope to God that if I'm ever in the same situation someone would step in and make the right decisions for my child when I was unable to do so. Really hope for a swift end to this tomorrow and peace for that poor baby.

CommunistLegoOoOoBloc · 09/07/2017 23:03

I'll never run out of sympathy for the parents. But I do think that they need to step back and do what's right for their son rather than delaying their own grief.

muckypup73 · 09/07/2017 23:04

KnitFastDieWarm, I agree, its just so bloody cruel.

7Days · 09/07/2017 23:04

You would think the grandparents would be calm and stabilising. Are they around, I wonder what they think.
Poor poor little boy.

muckypup73 · 09/07/2017 23:06

I just hope they see sense, I know someone posted before that apparently he was fit to fly, I could not find it, I am not sure he would make the flight even if he was allowed.

AlabamaShakes · 09/07/2017 23:10

One of the people that accompanied the pastor is Terri Shiavo's brother, Bobby Schindler. Can't link at the moment but it was a very famous legal case in the States regarding his sisters right to life, despite being completely comatose for over two years with no prospect of recovery.

muckypup73 · 09/07/2017 23:12

AlabamaShakes, is she still alive? and if so what a shit life to lead eh??? I do hope he was looking after her and not left it to someone else.

TheWeeWitch · 09/07/2017 23:13

muckypup73 · 09/07/2017 23:14

thanks weewitch I read it before as was fit to fly I have misread xx

AlabamaShakes · 09/07/2017 23:15

Forgot to mention, that his his sisters case her feeding tube was removed to end her life. So totally different to Charlie's case whereby his body is dying and only ventilation is keeping him alive.

I feel these people should not be involved in Charlie's case, they have a different agenda and have jumped on this for publicity

GlitterDustFairy · 09/07/2017 23:16

To the PPs regarding ICUs layout.

They will vary from hospital to hospital. There is usually some out on a main ward and some single or even double side rooms. The side rooms are usually saved for infection control purposes for those patients who need to be barrier or reversed barrier nursed. If space allows side rooms can can also be prioritised for patients receiving end of life care to provide privacy for the patient and their families. ICU bed spaces are generally much bigger than normal hospital bed spaces just due to the amount of equipment needed, especially in newer/ purpose built units.

I think someone also asked about why Charlie had been out on a ventilator initially if it was known his condition was terminal. I'd hazard a guess that at the time of deterioration that this possibly wasn't known and he was intubated (breathing tube inserted) and ventilated as a precautionary measure whilst further tests where carried performed for diagnosis. Often, if there is a fast deterioration, a cause may not always be known and it is best to stabilise a patient first and then work out what the cause is. I don't know this for certain however.

ZerbaPadnaTigre · 09/07/2017 23:16

I don't understand why they're still talking about taking Charlie to the US when the hospital have said that, with appropriate approval, they'll bring the treatment to him. Unnecessarily taking a very unwell baby and his parents a long way away from their support network (I'm not counting the pastor and his mates) to a country where it's very easy to end up with massive medical bills (what if they disagree with the New York hospital? Even if the treatment does help him, he'll need a high level of care; have the hospital said how long they're willing to treat him for free for?) is an awful idea.

AlabamaShakes · 09/07/2017 23:17

No she passed away a few years back after her husband won the battle to remove her feeding tube, despite a huge legal battle with her parents.

11122aa · 09/07/2017 23:17

He wouldn't even survive the flight.

muckypup73 · 09/07/2017 23:19

AlabamaShakes, how crazy is that?

muckypup73 · 09/07/2017 23:21

Imist say it has been lovely to see a hell of a lot of support out there for actual Charlie himself and doing the right thing for him, instead of it turning into a bun fight.

babapinksheep · 09/07/2017 23:21

How can he be feeling pain & suffering but at the same time be brain dead and have no brain activity ? That ain't possible it's either one or the other ?

StrangeLookingParasite · 09/07/2017 23:23

badgers, sauvignon, lonelymummy, I appreciate so much you telling us your stories, and I wish I could find a way to properly express how much. Everything I think to write sounds hollow and insincere.

This circus with poor Charlie is grotesque.
