To bring kids home from swimming in pyjamas at 5 pm?

I wouldn't be asking this question if his swimming finished at 7 pm or whatever, but it finishes at 5, we leave there at 5:30 in pyjamas. Is it unreasonable? He has a proper shower there. He is normally very tired that day (he's 4) so doesn't do much when home only plays with his toys in lounge.

I can't believe anyone could possibly object to this.

We do it. Dd's swimming finishes at 5, she showers & gets into her pjs. Straight to the car & home, dinner & then up to bed. She's almost 5.

It's a time-saver & avoids a late bedtime when's she's already worn out from swimming.

WhateverNameIsStillAvailable · 08/07/2017 11:57

Of course!!!
I do this too but swimming finishes at 4.30 lol
I didn't even think there'd be ppl judging haha not that I care anyway.
We get into the car drive home have dinner reading and bed so why the hell not.

Totally acceptable and a great idea in my opinion.

Lweji · 09/07/2017 12:02

DS once took a pj t-shirt to school. Because they look so alike and it had been misplaced in the wrong drawer. Grin

A quick trip home is hardly "worn outside". Unless outside air is too dirty to expose pjs to.

birdsdestiny · 09/07/2017 12:06

Honestly everyone does it. I tend to use a onesie but go for it, knock yourself out Grin. Sometimes we even pick up fish and chips on the way back too...

ItsAHardKn0ckLife · 09/07/2017 12:09

I wouldn't bat an eyelid at a child wearing pjs after a swimming lesson.

Go for it OP Smile

Dragonglass · 09/07/2017 12:24

I can't see what this is even an issue.

What is the problem with pj's being worn outside anyway? How is it different to drying them and bedding on the washing line outside? What is going to happen to pj's that are worn outside?

ohhereweareagain · 09/07/2017 12:26

Yes YABVU. Bet you are one of the mother's who blocks/hogs one of the few showers whilst most kids queue wet and cold waiting to rinse the chlorine off

tinypop4 · 09/07/2017 12:29

Can't see why why it matters tbh. He's 4, he can wear pyjamas home from swimming .:Dd is also 4, she regularly comes home from swimming dressed as a mermaid or a pirate.

lu697 · 09/07/2017 12:36

My son had swimming lessons from age 2 to 9. Over the years earliest finish was 5, latest 6.30. He always came home in PJ's or onesie. Swimming is exhausting, he'd have a shower and be all nice and cozy for bed. We were only going home. I really dont see the problem.

Pigface1 · 09/07/2017 12:37

Can't believe the vitriol on this thread. It's a 4 year old coming home from swimming, not a royal wedding. He's not going to turn into a violent drug lord because his mum used to put him in pjs to travel home from swimming.

Ironically I reckon it's more likely that the kids of parents who 'wouldn't dream' of doing such a morally repugnant thing will go insane in adulthood.

FFS

And she also prances around naked (even though it's her child doing the swimming), leaves the clothes in a cubicle, and tells her child to pee in the pool, I'm sure

WillRikersExtraNipple · 09/07/2017 12:55

Those fuckers using the showers for showering in. How very dare they?

Questioningeverything · 09/07/2017 13:11

I would. Specially in this weather, shorts and tshirt combo. No one would know the difference, surely?!

My ds wore comfy outdoor shorts to bed last night shock horror because his pj shorts were in the wash...

Urubu · 09/07/2017 13:16

How strange, I wouldn't do it myself, why do it to my DC?
Isn't it a parents job to teach social conventions to children? I agree, technically PJ's are clothes, but why don't we adults wear them outside? Because it is a social convention, because we don't want to look strange, etc - why do you think it doesn't apply to your DC?
Just put them in clean clothes and change for PJ once they are going to be.

Urubu · 09/07/2017 13:16

going to bed.

Liiinoo · 09/07/2017 13:17

Let the judgers judge. It will keep them occupied. Do what suits your family and don't let their issues become your problem.

birdsdestiny · 09/07/2017 14:39

I think my children are bright enough to realise that social conventions change as you grow up. I used to spend a lot of my childhood pretending to be a horse, it has slowly dawned on me that it's not so appropriate now I'm an adult.

LaurieMarlow · 09/07/2017 14:52

Those hoisting their judgy pants for spurious reasons that don't stand up to any scrutiny ('hygiene', 'social convention', 'example' or whatever the fuck) are welcome to as far as I'm concerned.

If it wasn't this it would be something else. Let them judge away, it keeps them occupied. Wink

Crack on OP, without worrying about this nonsense. If it makes your life easier, it's all to the good.

lmer · 09/07/2017 14:57

Go for it!! Less be honest, most summer pjs don't actually look much different to normal summer clothes for children- in fact I'm pretty sure mr 2 is currently running around in pj shorts today and you wouldn't know the difference.

Trb17 · 09/07/2017 15:02

I always got DD Into her PJ's after swimming at 5:30 so I say go for it. It was actually the norm at our local baths so nothing to be judged.

elevenclips · 09/07/2017 15:04

I see lots of people doing it but find it gross. I don't mind PJs being worn wherever but it's the hygiene. Our swim changing rooms have mouldy parts and are used by hundreds of kids. I personally shove a towel hoody thing over the swimwear and put on crocs/flips, get kids home v quickly and then get properly washed.

Fefifoefum · 09/07/2017 15:13

I do this myself, at 9am!

Sometimes I'll swim after my night shifts, so I'll go to the pool straight from work, swim, shower, and put on pyjamas, drive home, straight to bed.
I'm not going to put on anything I've worn to work, and I'm not going to put a fresh set of clothes to drive the 5 minutes home and change again into pyjamas to sleep.

I mean I try and make them as plain/tracksuit-y as possible, but sometimes they're full on Mini mouse numbers.

Maybe I have no shame? Maybe it's really not anybody else's problem.

Oh and I'm in my late 20s, so I'd say it's fine for a 4 year old, in the evening!

Xmasbaby11 · 09/07/2017 15:15

No I wouldn't. That's not late.

TeaCake5 · 09/07/2017 15:16

Yabu. This looks common.

RainbowsAndUnicorn · 09/07/2017 15:20

No, my chidren know pjs are for the house not outdoors. It just looks lazy and common. It's not exactly hard or time consuming to change before bed.
