To bring kids home from swimming in pyjamas at 5 pm?

I wouldn't be asking this question if his swimming finished at 7 pm or whatever, but it finishes at 5, we leave there at 5:30 in pyjamas. Is it unreasonable? He has a proper shower there. He is normally very tired that day (he's 4) so doesn't do much when home only plays with his toys in lounge.

I think some people might implode at the sight of the open water swimming group I go to - some adults go home in just their towel poncho Grin and nothing more than flip flops

Once I'd seen others putting their child in a onesie after later afternoon swimming, ds never got dressed again. And at 11, thats still his choice. TBH, if I had a onesie, I'd put it on after late swimming.

ZivaDiva · 08/07/2017 07:47

I used to do this and can say, hand on heart, that now they are all grown up, they have never gone shopping in their pj's.
It's such a stupid thing to judge people on, I safve that for people who let their children run round the car park.😆

People who mind don't matter
People who matter won't mind

DD wears her onesie home from swimming. Or a jersey summer dress in the summer. It's just easier. Do what you've got to do OP.

brexitstolemyfuture · 08/07/2017 07:54

Everyone does this where I am it's a sea of onesies after lessons.

ginloverwholovesgin · 08/07/2017 07:57

This is quite normal where my DS goes swimming. Pj's in the summer, onesies in the winter.
My DS is a little older so doesn't want to wear pjs but when he was younger I wish I'd done it - much easier.

Lweji · 08/07/2017 07:57

A 4 year old in pjs for a short ride/walk home!
What's the world coming to?

What if he ends up going to college on his pjs too?

Wink

More seriously, the only problem would be if he got it dirty on the way home.

knaffedoff · 08/07/2017 08:02

I wish my kids would wear their onesies/ pjs after swimming. Much easier for me and who really cares?

HipsterHunter · 08/07/2017 08:03

He's 4. Totally fine.

If I have an evening swim I always just chuck on track B, flip flops and a tshirt/hoody and don't bother about socks or a bra.

Maccapacca88 · 08/07/2017 08:04

My mom used to put us in pyjamas after swimming. Just to reassure you, I do not go to Tesco in pyjamas as an adult Wink

Jengnr · 08/07/2017 08:10

I would do it. I'd also drive the long way home as he'd probably fall asleep in the car then I could put him straight to bed.

Ocies · 08/07/2017 08:11

I used to do this with my dc. They are now all grown up and do not seem to be scarred by the fact they travelled home from their swimming lessons in their pyjamas when they were 5. They both make very suitable decisions regarding their clothing .... Grin

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/07/2017 08:46

Always do this with children I nanny for

Will do the same for my dd

thepatchworkcat · 08/07/2017 08:54

Sounds like a great idea to me

userres · 08/07/2017 08:54

Yes he's 4 not 14!

No harm he's showered and tried like you say pretty much ready for bed, your going home not out shopping!

I have taken my little one out in pj's when they were younger and poorly etc I.e to pick up older child from school

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 08/07/2017 08:57

I'm very snotty about adults slobbing round in public in PJs, but dressing a tired 4 year old after swimming in his PJs sounds very sensible.
Do it.

FloatyCat · 08/07/2017 09:07

Yes it's fine, he's only 4, not a 40 yr old slobbing around Morrisons in his pj's.

Balaboosteh · 08/07/2017 09:19

Yuck I absolutley hate this at any time. Our local swimming pool is really unhygienic. I just find it looks awfull. But the kids that do this at our swimming pool lounge around on the filthy chairs with their hands down the fronts of their pyjamas watching films on phones or tablets without headphones so i have an association with that. It up to you if you mind what anyone else thinks - the point is that some of them will be thinking it - at least I know I will!

Mymumsanighthorse · 08/07/2017 09:25

The thing is though balaboo most people can manage to look at a tired four year old on their way home for the night and not gasp in horror. TBH I'm completely bemused by the idea of anyone even giving it a second thought.

allegretto · 08/07/2017 09:31

I wouldn't either. I think it's a bit unhygienic and also ages before bedtime.

ZivaDiva · 08/07/2017 10:12

In my experience, even four year olds don't eat their pjs so the hygiene aspect is irrelevant.

allegretto · 08/07/2017 10:20

Hygiene isnt just about eating . Confused I don't want outdoor clothes worn to bed.

Crumbs1 · 08/07/2017 10:24

There are many more important things to worry about. Good he's learning to swim, good he's getting exercise.
He'll not suffer unduly from putting pjs on at 5pm. My husband often changes into PJs around that time if he's home. He's been to town in his slippers and collected children from events in his PJs. He's over 50 and seems to have survived.
There are no particular infection prevention and control risks associated with PJs.

glitterlips1 · 08/07/2017 10:25

I see it happen at our swimming lessons but usually this is in winter when it is dark outside and the children aren't usually doing anything else after school. My son has put on his onesie too. However, in the summer then it is usually t-shirt and shorts because most children go on to the park afterwards. People seem too worked up about what others think! Stuff them!
