To bring kids home from swimming in pyjamas at 5 pm?

I wouldn't be asking this question if his swimming finished at 7 pm or whatever, but it finishes at 5, we leave there at 5:30 in pyjamas. Is it unreasonable? He has a proper shower there. He is normally very tired that day (he's 4) so doesn't do much when home only plays with his toys in lounge.

AIBU?

My sons (5yrs) lesson finishes at 6pm so we go home in pjs as do most other children. He is clean & dry & by the time we are home 620-630 he just has enough time for a drink & story before bedtime at 7pm. I don't understand why people feel the need to comment so harshly on what a young child wears after swimming. If you can make life a little easier, do it & don't worry about others comments!

ScoutPup · 08/07/2017 10:27

What on earth is the issue here! He's four just bring him home in his pjs.

LionsTigersBeers · 08/07/2017 10:27

My friend used to do this with her boys. They'd have their dinner in the pool cafe too, then straight home to bed. I thought it was genius Grin

Roomster101 · 08/07/2017 10:33

Obviously, do what you want but I think it is a bit weird when I see children in PJs after swimming. I often swim in the evenings and don't drive home in my PJs afterwards so why are children different?

RandomName9 · 08/07/2017 10:39

Roomster I'm sure nobody would be bothered if you got in your pjs then into you car to go home. My son eats dinner before his lesson, what would be the point in having a shower then getting in to either dirty clothes or clean clothes for 1/2hour?

Ohyesiam · 08/07/2017 10:58

Do whatever works for you. If people judge that is happening inside their heads and doesn't affect you. Judgemental people are in my experience dull, narrow, and not worth giving head space to.

Posted early,
Ease and shortcuts are the way forward with kids.

A 4 year old who goes to bed by 7 not long after returning home from swimming is entirely different than an adult.

WillRikersExtraNipple · 08/07/2017 10:59

If its suits you wtf do you care if some internet randoms think you shouldn't do it?

WillRikersExtraNipple · 08/07/2017 11:00

If you really need a list of the ways a 4 year old is different to an adult, you really shouldn't be online unsupervised.

MaryTheCanary · 08/07/2017 11:01

It's fine. You could always try and choose items that do not really look like PJs, if you feel self conscious. Nothing wrong with sleeping in soft shorts and a t-shirt.

MaryTheCanary · 08/07/2017 11:03

The people getting sniffy are probably the exact same people who spend the rest of their time moaning about irresponsible parents who don't get their children to learn to swim, and/or irresponsible parents who don't get their children in bed and asleep by the correct time.

witsender · 08/07/2017 11:04

I often do. We walk straight out and into the car and home. Or with a onesie on, or sometimes their towelling hoodie and pants.

No biggie, most kids here do. Were we going somewhere afterwards I would rethink.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 08/07/2017 11:11

Unhygienic?
He's not going to swim in a sewer then put on his jimjams

Backingvocals · 08/07/2017 11:23

I don't see why not but it also strikes me as pointless. Another thing to take to the pool and try to prevent getting wet by dropping it. I'm guessing he's wearing simple clothes anyway? Shorts and a t shirt? So I'm not sure I could be bothered with taking a slightly different shorts and t shirt combo just to avoid the 60 seconds at home of ripping the day clothes off and putting other things on.

firawla · 08/07/2017 11:30

backingvocals that's what I think too, I've enough bags taking them swimming without bringing pjs - but I see some kids arriving in their dressing gowns, so I suppose they've got around the issue. I probably still wouldn't though!

Getoffthetableplease · 08/07/2017 11:32

When the boy's lessons were after school we did this. I didn't want to have to take clean clothes to just wear in the 15 min car ride home before bed, and his uniform is always such a food and dirt covered mess by the end of the day it seemed wrong to shower and put that back on. They're just kids, I really don't see an issue.

Roomster101 · 08/07/2017 11:40

Not really. I finish swimming at about 9 (as do quite a few adults at the gym) and go to bed at about 10.30 so not much different.

rinabean · 08/07/2017 11:44

are you 4 as well roomster? I think that's the salient point here

Roomster101 · 08/07/2017 11:44

Don't be stupid. I meant I don't see why children are different when it comes to keeping bed clothes for bed (or at least in the house).

Roomster101 · 08/07/2017 11:46

Why though? Most adults don't sleep in clothes they have worn outside and I don't see why a child is different IN THAT RESPECT.

Wolfiefan · 08/07/2017 11:48

In the summer I don't as it is easier to throw a summer dress over her head and DD is likely to want to sleep naked anyway.
In winter I do. She's tired and it's cold out. PJs and a fleece onesie over the top. Wash the onesie. It isn't one she wears to bed. I really can't see the issue.

fredandjohn · 08/07/2017 11:51

No he goes in school uniform so I would have to bring clothes anyway!

Thanks all for the replies, seems like it's okay then!

In this weather you could have them in pjs that just look like a t shirt and shorts - son o need know they are pjs

I really don't get parents who shower their children after swimming and then again at home - don't get it

kel1234 · 08/07/2017 11:56

I wouldn't ever dream of doing so. When out, my children would always be dressed in day clothes.
It hardly takes long to change him into pyjamas when you get home op.
