Neighbour spray painting pavement for their access

Hallomiaddicted · 07/07/2017 17:58

My neighbour has spray painted the pavement next to my house outside theirs and put a passive aggressive note up about the dropped curb. Yes it is a dropped curb but the council have not put a single or double yellow. The access is pedestrian gated rather than a driveway. AIBU I don't agree with them marking out the road. My car wheel is slightly over because the on street parking is always completely choc a block. They don't have a car and we all pay over £200 per yr for a council permit.

scaryclown · 07/07/2017 22:33

I am very alright, this fencing off bits of shitty land to stick VS up at one's fellow man. /woman is so petty

scaryclown · 07/07/2017 22:34

'ooh I have a dropped kerb, kneel before me'
Honestly... Grin

MeanAger · 07/07/2017 22:34

How do you even know how this dropped kerb came about? You don't. You talk about everyone else projecting....

scaryclown · 07/07/2017 22:36

I have considerably more dropped kerb than you

ComputerUserNotTrained · 07/07/2017 22:40

Assuming the kerb (and it's a fucking KERB. Kilo Echo Romeo Bravo) is there for a drive, and there is nobody parked on that drive, anyone should be able to park over it. You shouldn't get to tarmac your front yard and nab a stretch of road and then not use it. Sadly I'm not the queen though, so I think op would be best advised to look at the actual roolz.

If it's there to provide a safe place for people using wheelchairs to cross, it's a different kettle of fish.

Redsippycup · 07/07/2017 22:40

Grimbles that bit you have *ed is two seperate points;

where the kerb has been lowered to help wheelchair users and powered mobility vehicles

in front of an entrance to a property

All dropped kerbs are for wheels to go from pavement to road. Wheelchair dropped kerbs aren't just zebra crossings or outside a disabled person's house.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 07/07/2017 22:41

My Dad's dropped kerb is bigger than yours!

CotswoldStrife · 07/07/2017 22:45

Loving the competitive dropped curb/kerbing tonight here.

AngeloftheSouth84 · 07/07/2017 22:47

Perhaps the OP drives a 4x4, in which case the rules that apply to everyone else don't apply to her

MsLexicon · 07/07/2017 23:02

It doesn't matter if you think the dropped kerb is an inaccurate representation of their usage. Those are Council markings showing where some double yellows are ending.. They did the same thing in my road and it is an appalling nuisance as I lost the space for me weeny Micra because a neighbour campaigned for double yellows and he was a big nob at the BBC.. I still park there but I know I hang over a dropped kerb but just hope the other neighbour leaves me alone. I always smile at him even though he's a miserable
git!

gillybeanz · 07/07/2017 23:09

You have to have a dropped kerb if you have a driveway/off road parking, you can't drive over a kerb.
So, if there's a dropped kerb for any reason either access or for mobility issues, you can't park across it.
OP, you can apply to the council for your own dropped kerb, however, if you are having a parking bay, it probably isn't worth the cost.

HiJenny35 · 08/07/2017 00:59

Just to throw this into the mix, I live in London and we have driveways with dropped kerbs, we can get anyone towed that parks even slightly over our drive if we are on the drive or not and we can park over our own drives. We have a direct dial number and we call at any time and they come and lift any car we complain about however if the car belongs to the house who paid to have the drive put in that's allowed to park over it.

salsmum · 08/07/2017 01:43

My DD is a wheelchair user and I get sick to death of people parking over dropped curbs she has an electric chair and cannot go down curbs as the chair would tip....we've got soaking wet before and gone a long way out of our way if someone parks like this and we've even had to walk in the road on occasions ...if you park over a dropped curb you are basically blocking two dropped curbs by your actions because the curbs are usually opposite one another YADBU.

salsmum · 08/07/2017 01:47

IF on the other hand it's what I call a 'home made' dropped curb then same rules do not apply you have to pay a fair price if you need a dropped curb and go through the proper channels DIY dropped curbs are a bloody cheek

salsmum · 08/07/2017 01:50

Hijenny35 in our borough in Kent even if your friend has a dropped curb and you park over it (with their consent) you will be fined.

fannydaggerz · 08/07/2017 02:07

You can have your car towed for parking over a dropped kerb.

LakieLady · 08/07/2017 05:18

OP not come back then?

I think this is the first time I've seen such unanimity on here!

rumbelina · 08/07/2017 06:58

After my granny fell off her mobility scooter because someone had parked over the dropped curb I have 0 sympathy.

londonrach · 08/07/2017 07:04

Thats not then. Thats the council. My dad used to go around spray painting marks like that a week or two before the work was done. Always throught it was cool he was allowed to spray but it was his job. Yabu re a dropped kerb and parking. Wish council would tricket those in my road as i struggle with the buggy and getting past the cars...

Laiste · 08/07/2017 07:38

Scan read all this and now the word Kerb has lost all meaning to me.

kerB KerB kEr b aaarrrggghhh Grin

insancerre · 08/07/2017 07:50

Op, please come back and tell us what was in the letter

JacquesHammer · 08/07/2017 08:08

You shouldn't get to tarmac your front yard and nab a stretch of road and then not use it

But how would it work otherwise? In order to access a drive you have to have a dropped kerb!

If people weren't dicks and parked over dropped kerbs it would be so simple wouldn't it.
