Is £50 a month reasonable for gym membership?

Got an appointment with David Lloyd tomorrow. Aparranyky it's £50 a month for the basic package (£65 a month for the full package including tennis).

Is this pricey or reasonable? For this they have personal trainers, swimming, sauna and guest passes. DH says I can go but I feel guilty! I want to get in shape for my holiday in November (and beyond obviously) but I'm too self conscious to run outside and can't be arsed with home fitness dvds etc as the motivation is just not there if it's just me on my own in the living room

Well the appeal of DL is that it's a 10 minute walk from my house so I won't use distance/traffic as an excuse not to go. Also I love swimming but won't go to my local (council) baths as I'm funny about cleanliness and have heard the pools at DL are immaculate. I work Monday to Thursday so am planning on going two nights in the week, Friday day time and over the weekend. I know the council ones are cheaper but you don't get the cafe/relaxation element that you'd get at DL

I pay £80 for a Crossfit membership, which sounds pricey but you get coached and get pushed HARD. I go 4-5 times a week so works out about £5 a session which is pretty reasonable imo. Plus I treat it as a hobby.

NewPapaGuinea · 07/07/2017 15:42

Ps. I've trained at cheap gyms and either the equipment is of poor standard or it's so busy you can't train properly (or both!)

Its not immaculate.
Its a lot better than a public pool
but after a sunny summer afternoon the water has the sheen of sun tan lotion Grin

in january though the outdoor pool is adults only bliss

Huckleshmuckle · 07/07/2017 16:54

My council gym membership is £23 a month and that includes access to all their gyms citywide as well as pools and all classes.

EyeHalveASpellingChequer · 07/07/2017 16:58

I pay £37 a month to go to the gym, but it also includes free access to libraries, swimming pools, museums and theatres run by the council.

Do it! Sounds amazing price for DL and T that distance away, it's ideal.

I use nuffield and it is nice but not as nice as DL. It's. £55 and I'm up north.

Unicorn - Is that Nirvana?

Allthebestnamesareused · 07/07/2017 17:40

That is exceptionally cheap for DL - ours is miles more. Which branch?

PossumInAPearTree · 07/07/2017 17:43

I pay £80 for DL and thats with corporate discount. I feel its worth it for me but i go most days.

skyzumarubble · 07/07/2017 17:44

I pay £39 for unlimited classes at a pt studio.

Gym membership round here is in the £70+ region for DL / Virgin etc. Local council gym is £49.

ThePants999 · 07/07/2017 18:25

Just inside the M25, my wife was quoted well over £100 a month for David Lloyd.

OverTheHammer · 07/07/2017 18:40

This is the Hull branch

Sounds like Bannatyne's is a bargain compared to DL.

TalkinPeece · 07/07/2017 18:57

Interesting,
I just looked up DLL hull - nice looking club but a lot less facilities than some of the bigger ones
hence the lower price
enjoy - if you go more than three times a week you'll not regret the cost

Ilovecoleslaw · 07/07/2017 19:05

I was with david Lloyd for a year at 50 a month and it wasn't worth it at all. I pay 25 a month now and all i dont get is the sauna and jacuzzi. Oh and btw, i was told I'd get a personal trainer too but you only get one session then have to pay for more if you want them. All classes come with the membership tho.
I didn't go enough to warrant the 50 a month
But in all fairness, it was a nice gym, music and tv screens on the treadmill and cross trainer

Ilovecoleslaw · 07/07/2017 19:06

Oh and that was at a student price as well, the standard starting membership where I was, was 65

Groupie123 · 07/07/2017 19:08

Worth it. Loved David Lloyd when i lived close enough to one.

Parker231 · 07/07/2017 19:10

I pay £42 a month for our local gym - it includes classes, pool, gym, sauna and nice cafe! PT is extra. I think it's good value as I like the classes, the pool is quiet in the evenings and I go 4 times a week.

Roomster101 · 07/07/2017 19:13

I think that price is really cheap for David Lloyd. Gym memberships with swimming pools are nowhere near as cheap where I live (not London or SouthEast)

Lucysky2017 · 07/07/2017 19:14

I pay £120 each for my two teenagers! Includes towels, locker, free classes, gym, swimming, tennis and that is for going any time without restrictions.

BadToTheBone · 07/07/2017 19:21

You'll always pay more for a gym with a pool as they're expensive to run. So it depends whether you'll use it, I'm unlikely to use a gym if it doesn't have a pool, joining one without s pool is a waste of money, even if it is only £15 a matter nth.

BadToTheBone · 07/07/2017 19:21

**a month, stupid predictive text

Chottie · 07/07/2017 19:25

Our local David Lloyd is £100 per night, which is standard for SE London.

Chottie · 07/07/2017 19:26

not £100 per night, £100 per month !!!
