To get my dp to tie dental floss round anal skin tag

chiatta · 02/07/2017 23:28

I have over the past year developed an anal skin tag. GP said that is what it is, and said I could ask to have it removed but it's just 'cosmetic' and will take a while for referral to go through.
It is skinny and long and shaped like a sausage.
My dp says it is off-putting. He also says that he thinks skin tags can be got rid of by tying dental floss at the base. They then apparently shrivel up and die due to lack of blood.
AIBU to consider allowing him to do this?

And do you know if you have got one?

I had Dh do this. I then had a horrific late shift at work in agony which resulted in me coming home at midnight and waking Dh with a pair of nail scissors and beg him that regardless of what happened, he had to remove it.

It ended up being removed under general anaesthetic. And even worse, I knew the nurse in the day surgery unit. I had been given a pre op laxative and I don't even want to think what she witnessed. Good times!

curlii103 · 04/07/2017 23:28

I would totally do it. I had one * not there but couldn't get the thread tight enough. O bought a kit off Amazon glorifies elastic band and it came off

Nicknacky · 04/07/2017 23:29

I had one under my arm and it came off pain free. The anal one, not so much! Must be blood and gravity!

IrritatedUser1960 · 04/07/2017 23:32

I probably would if it wasn't painful. i once ordered a speculum online and got my OH of the time to remove my coil as it was painful and I couldn't get an appointent at the clinic for two weeks.

TwoBobs · 04/07/2017 23:35

I did the nail polish painting on mine and it worked! I wouldn't suggest it for an anal skin tag though. Wait for the doc to check it out!

WanderingTrolley1 · 04/07/2017 23:36

Don't (let him) do it!!

Italiangreyhound · 04/07/2017 23:40

I tied a hair around a skin tag on my neck. (The doctor said this was one way of getting rid of it as it starves it of blood.) It did not work. In the end the doctor burnt it off with some sort of method (while I had my eyes shut!). It doesn't hurt.

Get it removed properly and hygienically if you want it removed. If not, keep it.

Tell your dp to stay away from your arse if it puts him off.

squoosh · 04/07/2017 23:44

All the people who were in agony after attempting to remove their own skin tags....skin tags don't contain any nerve endings so shouldn't have caused any pain at all. I suppose it's worth having an expert tell you for certain if it's a tag it something else!

(I realise the OP has received confirmation from her GP)

acatcalledjohn · 04/07/2017 23:48

Depending on where it is exactly you could try the tea tree oil method. I have a skin tag on the side of my face (the result of absentmindedly picking for ages). About 2 weeks ago I started dabbing tea tree oil on it 2-3 times a day and it's reduced in size by about 2/3rds.

KindleBueno · 04/07/2017 23:53

This is the most fucked up thing I've read in a while. And I just finished a Stephen King novel

Italiangreyhound · 05/07/2017 00:13

squoosh "...skin tags don't contain any nerve endings", plasters don't contain any nerve ending either but if you stick one onto your skin and pull it off....

squoosh · 05/07/2017 00:56

Um, okay....

squoosh · 05/07/2017 00:58

Not sure what your point is. If you pinch a skin tag you shouldn't feel anything, therefore when you tie some floss around a skin tag (if indeed it actually is a skin tag) you shouldn't feel anything either.

seventhgonickname · 05/07/2017 01:09

I think it's verrucas that you use nail varnish on but painting it a pretty colour may improve the view for dh.

Italiangreyhound · 05/07/2017 01:09

squoosh my point is when something is attached to your skin and you pull it, it hurts, because it pulls your skin. Likewise, if you pull a hair on your skin it hurts, not because the hair has a nerve ending but because your skin, presumably, does.

I must say I am not a doctor.

PeachPearPotato · 05/07/2017 01:10

I don't know about anal ones but I've just cut armpit ones with scissors. Is that bad? Shock

AGnu · 05/07/2017 01:24

I had one on the outer edge of my vulva that kept rubbing on my underwear & bleeding. GP said they'd be unlikely to approve a referral unless it could be shown to be causing significant problems & that she couldn't do minor surgery or tie it off for insurance reasons which was a shame because she was certain that if someone were to tie a bit of cotton or floss round it it would fall off really easily... She was right. It went completely black within 36 hours & fell off after about a week. I was really nervous about doing it but I kept a close eye on it for any signs of infection & figured that if it did get infected then at least I'd be in a better position to argue for it being removed ASAP!

pilotswife · 05/07/2017 01:34

AGnu - that advice from your GP is extraordinary. Dermatologists deal with skin tags all the time. There is nothing cosmetic about a vulval skin tag that rubs and bleeds!
The OP needs a referral to a dermatologist.

CremeFresh · 05/07/2017 01:37

I was told anal skin tag removal is not advised due to non healing.

CosmoClock · 05/07/2017 01:49

Anybody remember AmateurArseDoctor

CosmoClock · 05/07/2017 01:50

OP, I second the idea to go to a walk in gum clinic.

frenchfancy81 · 05/07/2017 02:59

Silverdale Glen I actually laughed out loud at that!!!

chiatta · 05/07/2017 03:31

I went to a walk in GUM clinic already- they said 'oh this isn't for us show it to your GP'
