To get my dp to tie dental floss round anal skin tag

I have over the past year developed an anal skin tag. GP said that is what it is, and said I could ask to have it removed but it's just 'cosmetic' and will take a while for referral to go through.
It is skinny and long and shaped like a sausage.
My dp says it is off-putting. He also says that he thinks skin tags can be got rid of by tying dental floss at the base. They then apparently shrivel up and die due to lack of blood.
AIBU to consider allowing him to do this?

BULLSHIT it hurts Luke a motherfucker and once it's tied on, you absolutely cannot undo it!

I agree! I had a dying tag under my armpit and it hurt like buggery! (Not that I've actually had anal, just a saying. Wink ) Took about a week to drop off, maybe a little bit longer. I wouldn't recommend it OP!

I had a skin tag on my arm and I read that if you tie it off then it would die, so I did. Except I pulled it too tight (one end of the thread between my teeth and the other held by the hand on the non tag arm) and it popped off. It didnt hurt.

So if you want it removed then go for it, but if this is all about him then snip him off. I suspect that its all about him....

I had one on my neck that I tied dental floss around and it took 14 days! I was getting worried towards the end, waiting for the bastard to drop off. Thought I was going to have to go to the GP and explain to him what I'd done. It worked a treat eventually and left no mark at all.
I would never, ever, no not ever do it again though.

Firstly, anal skin tags and those on the rest of your body are different. If you cut it off you risk haemorrage and infection. Don't do that, I implore you. Secondly, I would also recommend NOT doing the dental floss thing. If your skin tags are caused by something internal (erm... further up inside) that will need to be resolved. Wait for the doctor please.

Before you attempt to remove skin tags, you should be completely certain that you are dealing with skin tags rather than more serious growths. A skin tag is very small and grows slowly, never reaching a size greater than half an inch (1.27 cm). It might appear to be a flap of skin or a small, round mass attached to the skin by a peduncle, or stalk. The skin tag should be soft and movable, with a pigmentation that is similar to the rest of your skin or slightly darker.

Tie-and-Snip Method
After you have established that the growths are skin tags, you can begin to remove them. One way to do this is to tie a piece of thread or dental floss tightly around the base of the skin tag. Then, with thoroughly cleaned, sharp scissors or a nail clipper, cut the skin tag off above the material that you tied around the base.

My DHS GP just advised him to do this to one on his neck. Not sure I'd recommend doing it to one on your bum though?

I tied DH's armpit one at his request.

It was awful. As soon as I pulled to tighten (won't work if loose) he yelled in pain, but it was too late to untie it!

It didn't drop off after the promised 3 days. It didn't even shrink or dry a tiny bit. He painstakingly cut around it to remove it and it still dangles to this day.

I will never try that game again.

I'm in the medical field and that this is an effective way to get rid of them. It simply cuts blood supply off and they fall off. That simple. I would feel comfortable doing it if I had one.

An anal one - no!!! My husband had surgery to have one removed. He was in agony and couldn't sit for weeks. The area it's in is a high infection risk too. Having an opened wound in that area makes it very hard to clean after going to the bathroom. Really bad idea.

Definitely do not tie an anal one. You can have surgery to remove it if it interferes with personal hygiene or is causing discomfort. There is a strong possibility it will return though.

Hi all. To answer your questions:
A) it is not a sexual pleasure thing (dental floss on skin tag- not my personal kink)
B) 'he finds it off putting' - some sex positions he can see it
C) I dislike it now it has got bigger. I look at it in the mirror and obsess over how weird it is
D) don't have the money to pay for private treatment
E) will kick off the slow process of trying to get an NHS procedure to remove
F) the internet says dental floss method is safe. However I fear complications
G) I cannot for the life of me tie dental floss around it. It's on my bum hole. He has offered to do it and seems unphased. Apparently it takes a week. But I fear pain, infection, not being able to get the floss off if I need to. And I work part- time.

Oh and thank you everybody for your comments- seem to be differing opinions here.
GP diagnosed it as a skin tag for sure for those wondering.

Go to a GUM walk in clinic. They will treat it for you without a wait. I had one on my groin and they did it for me on the day.

I had a couple on my chest that DS2 twiddled off while he was breastfeeding.

Maybe ask your DH to try that?

Hello everybody. After reading all the messages in detail it seems that the consensus swings towards not doing it, and getting the GP referral. This is what I shall do. It seems nobody on here has successfully removed an anal skin tag this way.
May your anuses be always skin-tag free.

Weren't MNers painting their skin tags with nail polish a while back in an attempt to kill them off? He could paint it with a bit of rouge noir and see what happens!

Non-anal skin tags I'd be tempted to do the tied tight with cotton procedure but not in that area.

Can you not save up for private treatment? Surely one arse tag can't cost a fortune to remove.

I would be very worried about infection in that area, and also doesn't it have a really good blood supply? So bleaurgh if it started bleeding everywhere?
