To think a Beko fridge might put people off a luxury holiday let

AIBU? New business for us - combination of newby and nerves. Is 4 bedrooms in Lakes. Kitting it out with excellent mattresses, luxury 500 tc Egyptian cotton bedlinen, great towels, blackout curtains, furniture from Laura Ashley etc. Rest of kitchen is nice. Had read holiday lets should give people stuff they don't have at home where possible, so twin slimline Bosch dishwashers (is a thing in the US apparently), really good stove, steam oven/microwave combo. Was going to get American style fridge/freezer but actually prefer this Beko which has fridge at top (big, well lit, water in door but no plumbing needed/no ice), then a drawer which is a flex-zone (can be fridge or freezer), then a freezer at bottom. I would like this in a holiday let as I could have more freezer or more fridge. And these massive American ones put me off I hate scrabbling at the very bottom of them for veggies. But I can't find Samsung or LG or Kenwood version of one I want, only Beko. Other half says Beko gaff. Is 750 quid, vs. about 1100 for American but for me it's not the money. So AIBU to put Beko in luxury holiday let?

You are massively overthinking this.

But give Costco a try for the fridge you want.

fannydaggerz · 02/07/2017 23:23

I would wonder why you had spent so much money on the place and put a cheap fridge in.

muddlefuck · 02/07/2017 23:26

wtf

wonkylegs · 02/07/2017 23:35

I would avoid a Smeg dishwasher like the plague both mine and my fathers (bought at different times from different retailers at opposite ends of the country) caught on fire and dealing with Smeg over it was appalling.

Thankfully our cleaner was in the house and was extremely quick thinking when the smoke alarm went off but it trashed the dishwasher, the marble top just had soot marks thankfully no further damage but it was caught quickly, my dads took out the adjacent cabinets.
Smeg wouldn't even investigate and said they had never heard of another fire despite me pointing out my dads one and therefore there wasn't a problem and they would do nothing.
I love my Miele but I've had good basic range Bosch ones before and I'd be really happy to see them in a holiday let as they are very easy to use and wash well.
I don't think I'd notice the make of the fridge freezer in a holiday let as long as it was clean, and smelt fresh (have stayed in even v. Expensive ones where this wasn't the case)
I have a Beko freezer in my garage and it's really good.

One thing that I bloody loved when we were in Efteling last year was the coffee maker. Was a really nice touch (but then I think the Dutch don't go in for instant coffee that much). I don't remember what brand but it was a pod coffee maker with plenty of pods included - the cleaners replaced a little metal caddy with dishwasher tabs, coffee pods, sugar, salt and pepper and UHT milk. We did buy our own milk though!

We're not a 'luxury' holiday family (due to money rather than desire unfortunately) so for me, a really comfy bed, dishwasher, and coffee maker would be my top items, assuming linens and towels are provided.

Also really easy to follow instructions for the induction hob as I found it so difficult to work the one in our chalet.

robinia · 03/07/2017 00:46

We tend to stay in top end properties. It is nice to have luxury brand appliances - Dualit, Smeg and I would notice if an otherwise 'luxury' property had a Beko fridge. I have two fridge/freezers at home - the Neff American ff is in the kitchen, the Beko is in the garage. And I really appreciate an ice maker.

RedHelenB · 03/07/2017 07:05

Ice on tap would be good on holiday though so I think the American fridge would be better

reuset · 03/07/2017 07:16

It would have to be super luxury for me to register the fridge freezer wan't quite top notch. It doesn't sound that way, if I've read your posts properly.

Ooh, what's wrong with Laura Ashley. Grin People used to covet their furniture back in the day? At least I think they did,.

coconuttella · 03/07/2017 07:26

95% would notice... I can imagine the remaining 5% who did notice wouldn't care enough that it would tarnish their break.

coconuttella · 03/07/2017 07:26

Wouldn't notice

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 03/07/2017 07:43

I wouldn't buy beko appliances because of the findings that a fridge and a tumble dryer were the causes of two fires that caused fatalities.

It wouldn't ruin my holiday but I would prefer they weren't there and I probably wouldn't return. As a landlord, I never buy them; too worried they might cause a fire and not worth the risk to save a few pounds

StarCrossdSkys · 03/07/2017 07:47

Your bed allocation sounds off. You have 1 king and 3 doubles.

1 king size not enough. If 2 couples share nobody is going to want a double.

If 2 families share them the kids will have to share beds.

Can you get king zip and links in more of the rooms? You'll suit a wider ranger of people then.

Laine21 · 03/07/2017 07:48

when hiring a cottage or a lodge, I know I prefer a bigger fridge than a freezer. but why not look at ao.com, they have great prices, and lots of American style below £1000

Sunshinegirls · 03/07/2017 07:51

I wouldn't notice the brand of fridge. With holiday let's I find it's the little things that are often overlooked that stand out, like is there dishwasher tablets? Is there bulbs in the lamps? Is there a decent knife, a corkscrew, a sieve, enough loo roll.

MrsUnderwood · 03/07/2017 07:59

I've stayed in a lot of self catering holiday cottages. The things I tend to like are:

  1. Cleanliness. Especially the bathrooms. Nothing makes me feel ickier than a manky shower. A big bath is much appreciated, as is an easy to use shower with good water pressure.
  2. Good quality linen and towels. Lots of pillows. Comfy beds.
  3. Easy to use appliances.
  4. A kitchen stocked with all the utensils you'd need to cook a proper meal, as well as basics like bin liners and washing up liquid.
  5. consideration for children- plastic plates and cups, high chairs, travel cots.

I don't care about appliance brands as long as they're clean and easy to use. We usually go on holiday as part of a large group so need a big fridge and freezer and plenty of big serving platters/ roasting tins as we cook on a large scale. We usually look for places that have large kitchens.

GhostsToMonsoon · 03/07/2017 08:03

We have a Beko fridge at home.

So long as property is clean, has a reasonably well-equipped kitchen, working wifi and a DVD player I'm happy.

It wouldn't ruin my holiday but I would prefer they weren't there and I probably wouldn't return.

Is exactly how I'd feel. It'd probably get a mention in any review that I wrote too.

BikeRunSki · 03/07/2017 08:09

The only time I have noticed the make of the appliances in a holiday let, was when the fridge packed up and ruined a week's worth of food. Although it was a Beko! As long as it works I don't care!

cakecakecheese · 03/07/2017 08:30

I would never buy a Beko appliance, in my experience they don't last very long, but on holiday I probably wouldn't even notice and I certainly wouldn't care.

TestTubeTeen · 03/07/2017 08:38

"I'd be pissed off with laminate sheets hanging off things and throw them in the bin."

Wow, not just put them on a shelf or in a drawer?

Interesting to observe holidaymaker's behaviour from an owners pov.

TattyCat · 03/07/2017 08:40

Do people really nick stuff from holiday lets? What kind of stuff?

Spikeyball · 03/07/2017 08:40

All I would care about is that the fridge freezer is big enough, clean and works.
The most important things in a holiday let are that the beds are comfy, there is a decent shower and all the appliances work.

TeenAndTween · 03/07/2017 08:41

I don't give a stuff about make of appliances.
Or ice.
Or even a dishwasher.

All I want is:

  • decent blackout curtains with no gaps
  • shelf/surface space in bathroom
  • hooks for hanging coats

It is amazing how many places are unable to provide those 3.
