To think a Beko fridge might put people off a luxury holiday let

AIBU? New business for us - combination of newby and nerves. Is 4 bedrooms in Lakes. Kitting it out with excellent mattresses, luxury 500 tc Egyptian cotton bedlinen, great towels, blackout curtains, furniture from Laura Ashley etc. Rest of kitchen is nice. Had read holiday lets should give people stuff they don't have at home where possible, so twin slimline Bosch dishwashers (is a thing in the US apparently), really good stove, steam oven/microwave combo. Was going to get American style fridge/freezer but actually prefer this Beko which has fridge at top (big, well lit, water in door but no plumbing needed/no ice), then a drawer which is a flex-zone (can be fridge or freezer), then a freezer at bottom. I would like this in a holiday let as I could have more freezer or more fridge. And these massive American ones put me off I hate scrabbling at the very bottom of them for veggies. But I can't find Samsung or LG or Kenwood version of one I want, only Beko. Other half says Beko gaff. Is 750 quid, vs. about 1100 for American but for me it's not the money. So AIBU to put Beko in luxury holiday let?

Thank you so much, everyone! Really great/HELPFUL to get the feedback!

I'm taking your collective advice and going with the Beko and assuming when people get there, they will like it. Bummer though that it has water but not ice in the door. I'm hearing people say they like ice. In response to people talking about faffing with a manual I hate that too so I am laminating easy instructions, with little pix, for each appliance: "press this and this for a 30 minute wash" "and sticking it on a hook by the appliance. The (in)famous Beko actually has on the front of it "press this button twice if you want the drawer to be a freezer, one to be a fridge" I think sometimes if people go for Xmas week they do like to stock up a freezer (I do).

Washing machine is Miele and furniture is combo of John Lewis (table, chairs) and Laura Ashley (coffee tables) we were trying to make it a bit nicer than those holiday lets where it's either clearly the owner's older stuff or it's cheap Ikea or that oak stuff everyone has together with brown leather couches. The mattresses are John Lewis as well with all the mattress protectors and covers etc.

Would it really be better to have one dishwasher not two slimline? All four rooms are king or double so thinking two families might share, and if so, two dishwashers would be handy. But never had that myself... It has already got one slimline Bosch so was putting in its mate, but could switch order to one full-size (and sell the little one?)

Also putting in wine fridge (and thanks poster above, will add pint glasses, had not thought of that).

Thanks again mumsnetters!

I would prefer an American style. I've never had a Beko fridge freezer go beyond two years old. To be honest though, cleanliness, WiFi, blackout blinds/curtains in bedrooms, comfy beds and bedroom storage are most important for us. Oh and plug sockets next to beds for device charging overnight. Bathroom mirrors at appropriate heights are also something we now look at as DP is 6ft2 and the last place we stayed the mirror was too low down for him to see in it!

I don't like this idea at all. You're better putting it on a page in the information book. Things on hooks will make the kitchen look messy and invariably go missing.

Tubbyinthehottub · 02/07/2017 22:17

Two dishwashers is a thing in my house but they are full sized. In a holiday let I'd prefer one big one I think. I wouldn't be expecting two anyway as it's not very common.

Blanketdog · 02/07/2017 22:17

I think the twin dishwashers fashion is partly to do with Jewish custom of not mixing meat and milk - hence they have a dishwasher for dishes that come into contact with meat and one for milk, that coupled with not having to wait to fill a big one before switching it on. Personally I would prefer a standard size but it wouldn't bother me greatly.

PurpleDaisies · 02/07/2017 22:17

Yes-slimline dishwashers are a right pain.

MrsQuim · 02/07/2017 22:17

Wow stealth bed linen boast 😀

nocoolnamesleft · 02/07/2017 22:17

You're in the Lakes? Selection of maps, books of walks, compass...

BlackStars · 02/07/2017 22:17

I live in a V expensive house in SE and own a big American Beko FF - it's great - It keeps stuff cold/frozen as it should do and no one has looked down on it as far as I know....

Plus it's the white good still functioning properly out of all the white goods I bought when I had the kitchen re modeled 4 years ago. When I think that I had the previous old ones functioning fine for nearly 10 years that's annoying!!

ChildrensPartyNightmare · 02/07/2017 22:18

I am not impartial to a naice holiday self catering in villas and houses, sometimes with staff..

Depends on your price point.

What is your return on investment model? If it's luxury, I don't think Beko is a brand for the property.

If it's middle range. Then fine.

We do a big holiday in a move villa/house for a week a year. And then slum it around Europe for a few long weekends each year too.

I have a beko tumble dryer, so not a brand snob!

ExConstance · 02/07/2017 22:20

I have one like that, it is wonderful, I'd be really pleased to find one in my holiday let. As someone else has said not so pleased with Laura Ashley, it is all subjective.

DailyMaui · 02/07/2017 22:20

I have never ever cared what brand anything was in a holiday let.

Does everything work? Is it comfortable?

That's enough really.

SurreyLanes · 02/07/2017 22:22

What would worry me about a Beko fridge is the history they have of catching fire.

saoirse31 · 02/07/2017 22:24

Wow... Never have I gone on a holiday where the make of fridge was important... To be fair tho the accommodation is prob least important thing in looking for.

But really, have beko oven and washing machine, both fine so assume their fridges are pretty OK too

I have a Beko fridge freezer and a tumble dryer. I am very happy with both, but this thread has left me feeling a bit second class citizen.

Really, do people pay attention to the appliances in a holiday let?

I think if people care about things like that it's just a bit...well...sad.

midnightmisssuki · 02/07/2017 22:25

Beko isnt bad - is it? My sister is dating one of their directors - im hoping to get a family discount on a new fridge for my mum soon! Grin

Not keen on LA stuff since found out it was made in a local prison!
The Beko FF gets a thumbs up from me. I wouldn't even notice tbh.

BoomBoomsCousin · 02/07/2017 22:27

OP I've been in a holiday let with two slimline and it was so good I'm trying to work out how we could do it at home. Being able to run one as soon as it was full and stack the second (ready to go, normally about as soon as the first is finished!) was great and suited us really well.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 02/07/2017 22:28

I think it's the fridge freezer combos that caught fire. Fridges and freezers on their own are fine. We've got one of each in our utility room and they've never been a problem.

CasperGutman · 02/07/2017 22:28

I think we have the exact Beko fridge/freezer you're talking about - with the flexible drawer. I can't see it being useful in a holiday let - nobody's going to be faffing about with changing settings, are they? They're on holiday! That said, it's been great for two almost three years and counting for us.

TBH, I'd probably have avoided Beko for snob value reasons (the oven's Neff, etc) but their USP for us was that we wanted to put it in an unheated outbuilding in the winter while having some work done and almost all manufacturers state you must keep their appliances above 5°C or the warranty is invalid.

As to ice, I had wanted an ice machine too, but how hard is it to buy a bag of ice for a quid every couple of weeks, or fill ice cube trays between visitors?

2014newme · 02/07/2017 22:30

I wouldn't notice.

But Laura Ashley sofas never wear well

questionsandquestions · 02/07/2017 22:30

So re: feathers, one of our planned selling points is to advertise as "allergy friendly" (we have allergies in our family), so no feathers, only natural fragrance-free cleaning products used throughout, mostly wood floors, and where carpets and curtains are in rooms, they'll be steam cleaned monthly. We'll supply natural fragrance free stuff in bathrooms if people want to try them too (in a very nice wall dispenser unit I traveled to the ends of the earth, well the hotel supplier outofeden to find).

I also plan on providing all the basics it annoys me to have to buy in holiday lets (and then have to leave), so (natural) dishwasher tablets, and washing liquid, hand soaps, bin liners, sharp knives (good ones in a knife block). I'm sure I will learn as we go along when we lose things, but I'm starting off trying to do everything to make a place like I'd want it myself. I've got decent large pans and casseroles.

I'm rethinking my little laminated cards a bit, although if I laminate spares, the cleaners/changer-overs can replace them. I do have a folder full of manuals, but I can never be bothered to read those myself. However, what I also want is "Best oven setting to cook a pizza" type of instructions.

I'm also rethinking my Beko now because of the lack of plumbing. Poster above totally right, I would worry about how old and scummy the water might be... And you've all convinced me (a) ice is good in a luxury holiday let, and (b) slimline dishwashers are stupid. I saw a lovely Smeg full sized one in Currys when I was -obsessing- looking at American fridge freezers.

what is the deal with two slimline washers - that sounds annoying as hell.
