Ms has a full time well paid job, Is 300.00 month to much rent? He's threatened to move out. He currently pays 200. But it's not enough to cover everything. I'm disabled & unable to work.
My daughter pays hers no problem. I feel terrible even asking for rent.

OP do you get Pip or DLA
If you do and you get the Care part of it the adult income is disregarded no matter what they earn

I copied this from the website
If you or your partner get disability living allowance (care) or attendance allowance the non dependents income is not counted

www.entitledto.co.uk/help/non-dependants

However HB don't tell you this most of the time and you need to ask for it

I do get PIP yes I didn't know that thank you Magpiemagpie

I remember the shock when I became a student and realised all the costs, I don't think £300 will cover food , gas, electricity, water and sewerage, tv licensing, internet, phone line rental, clothes washing , drying, ironing, insurance. Just the launderette costs could be £20 each week.

I think you are not making anything with £300 board, you are more than likely still subsidising him.

If I could get accommodation, food & bills for £300 a month I'd be laughing! I paid my aunt £200 a month to live there over 10 years ago. I think he's got a bargain.

Phoebefromfriends · 01/07/2017 20:20

He's got a bargain and should be paying his way. I doubt very much he could find anything cheaper. I hope you get this sorted OP.

Please make sure you apply for the Warm Front Grant funded by the Government too if you don't get this already. You can apply each year through your Utility provider. I think it's about £140 off your bill each year.

Thank you, me too. He hasn't been back since yesterday I'm gutted. He has it very easy here but I've had enough now

andTakeYourHorseWithYou

in a lot of places around the country £900 will pay for all the bills including food.

FWIW, I think that the OP is correct in taking rent, but only at this rate if it is treated like a house share.

I paid my parents £400 pcm when I stayed with them for a while 6 years ago. I also bought all my own toiletries and groceries for the 3 days I cooked for the family. I thought (and still think) it was a perfectly fair deal!

If he's so unhappy he can move out and you can get a lodger or move to a smaller place with your daughter.

ticketytock1 · 02/07/2017 11:31

Lol tell him to move out then if it's cheaper... he'll be back like a boomerang!
