That's a vision to keep a person awake at night, Sleip.

Orlantina · 02/07/2017 22:17

well I'm not sure why you think that, but he said it 10 years ago

I'm holding him to a higher standard now - for his behaviour on the election campaign and as President.

I am judging him by what he said and how he acts. And I find him unPresidential.

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 02/07/2017 22:23

And I find him unPresidential.

Understatement of the year...

A winner though

Sleipnirthewonderhorse · 02/07/2017 22:29

I'm pleased to say that the British gif won't happen, because, much as I dislike our current prime minister, she doesn't feel the need to act like a rather stupid 8 year old on social media. You see, much as some people want to blame the dislike of Trump on the media, actually, he's completely capable of being utterly loathsome all on his own.
And now I'm going to continue to ignore the goady fucker. I'm still a middle aged woman, continue to feel free to pity me. Just more quietly please.

thedcbrokemybank · 02/07/2017 22:35

Please do not presume to know what media I consume. I actually follow a broad spectrum so that I can formulate my own opinion. By your logic the pro Trump media would have as much effect on me as the the anti-Trump media.

Again, that does not make it alright, but you can't hold him to a higher standard just because. I can hold him to a higher standard but it's not "just because". It is because he is one of the most influential men on the planet and with that role comes responsibility. If we condone behaviour like that from the most influential man on the planet are we not saying "hey, this is okay?".

Crazy Joe and Low IQ Mika have attacked him for months about his hair, hands, intellect and everything inbetween
I had no idea who these people were but I do now because the most influential man on the planet used his influence to share his vitriol around the world. He has the power to share a message. That message should be above the level of tit for tat hurling of insults.

It is not what Trump does (although I don't agree with much of it) but how he does it that is fundamentally wrong. He uses his platform to incite division rather than for good. He could use it to push his political agenda and to inspire but when you break down his tweets, the majority (for June anyway), focus on Fake News. Fake news which is arguably no more or no less fake than any other.

ayylmaooo · 02/07/2017 22:36

Lion, I'm not sure you understand what winning is. I guess there is a severe lack of it at your end, to be fair.

A telephone poll of 1500 people is what you cling to? Not only that, but 57% is surprisingly good considering what he is up against.

Orlantina · 02/07/2017 22:41

A telephone poll of 1500 people is what you cling to

It's what Trump has done. And he's tweeted them as well. Well, only the polls that shows support. And 1000 people. Ironically, he tweets the polls that show he has a 'high' popularity but then hidden in the poll data is clear lack of support for many of his other policies.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 02/07/2017 22:41

ayyl you don't sound like you actually really support Trump or anyone else in the Western political world. Just like being alternative and anti-establishment? Think you're sticking it to 'The Man'? Or just contrary for the sake of being contrary? That's your prerogative in our democratic world, but nothing you've said has convinced me that you have any strong convictions or anything illuminating to say about anything other than trying to be a shit-stirrer. (And not a very good one)

ayylmaooo · 02/07/2017 22:46

Orlantina, I don't put much stock into any poll at all.

TheNorth, That's cool because I'm not trying to convince you of anything.

Gumpendorf · 02/07/2017 22:47

Some posts on this thread remind me that some regimes pay people to shit stir on social media when things get tough.

It's been a long shift today. Vlad may be complaining at g20 about overtime costs Wink

ayylmaooo · 02/07/2017 22:50

Gumpendorf, standard reply when you're not used to seeing a different opinion or have no counter-argument. If you do but can't be bothered, then it's best to say nothing.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 02/07/2017 22:50

aayl then pray tell, why are you here?

cozietoesie · 02/07/2017 22:51

If you're not of a tender disposition, you might enjoy some of this.

Orlantina · 02/07/2017 22:52

I don't put much stock into any poll at all

I don't put much stock in any poll with low numbers of people. But at least I'm not POTUS and I don't decide to tweet out a poll showing that I have support and at the same time have a go at the media's polls and call them fake.

Because I'm not someone who needs their ego feeding.

Orlantina · 02/07/2017 22:54

ayylmaooo

It's unusual to have a poster who has only started posting recently and only on one topic.

Have a look round at other areas of MN.

lionheart · 02/07/2017 22:55

Haven't seen much in the way of argument from you, aayl.

Lweji · 02/07/2017 23:04

I had no idea who these people were but I do now

Exactly. They should have followed Colbert's example. Grin

It's great for the ratings.

lionheart · 02/07/2017 23:04

I suppose the bollocky tweets are a sign of his need to create distraction. They will get worse.

Lweji · 02/07/2017 23:07

It's not helping that my hotel TV has a limited number or channels and I'm watching a film where the US has been invaded by North Korea.

lionheart · 02/07/2017 23:09

You'll be fine if you have Fox news.

thedcbrokemybank · 02/07/2017 23:11

ayylmaooo
A telephone poll of 1500 people is what you cling to?
Or a respected poll which has historically been used as a comparison tool for decades? So rather than present something that to you would give a more balanced data set, you would rather discredit this one. Bit of a common theme with you it would seem - you did the same with the BBC article linked to up thread.

you're not used to seeing a different opinion or have no counter-argument
Opinion is the key word, you have given no evidence based counter argument.
My opinion is that Trump is morally corrupt and that his conduct is reprehensible and below the position of POTUS. I have listed my reasons why previously and can evidence them with literal quotes or instances of inappropriate behaviour for someone in that position. Politically he could tick all my boxes but I could never excuse his personal conduct.
That does not seem to be a problem for you so let's just agree to disagree?

cozietoesie · 02/07/2017 23:20

Interestingly, I heard that Springsteen once turned to his band and said words to the effect of 'No, We're getting it wrong, guys. Let's start again'.

(This was from someone who was there, I didn't see it myself - although I did, unusually, see the same thing happen at a Tortelier recital, once.)

Such belief in their music. Smile
