to let DS have a McDonald's each week?

DS is a swimmer and swims with a squad that's 45 mins away. He starts training at 6:30 and comes out at 8 (pm btw) and it's very convenient for this day. He is healthy and slim and on all the other days has a good, balanced diet.

Is this seriously so bad? Shock

I've had McDonalds every day this week may or may not have been more than once a day on some occasions and am planning on making it my fifth in a row in two hours' time Grin

HappyFlappy · 30/06/2017 16:11

I remember reading Fast Food Nation and being put off the meat in McDs

I think it was the film of that book that I saw, Eagle.

It was pretty grim . . .

witsender · 30/06/2017 16:14

I really want a big Mac now. Sad

HappyFlappy · 30/06/2017 16:14

We like to call McDonalds 'the Scottish restaurant', like Macbeth is 'the Scottish play' . It's like it's bad luck to even say the name.

HappyFlappy · 30/06/2017 16:18

one day I will go to America and try out your food

I've been.

It's shite.

American films are nothing like real life.

YesMadamDeputySpeaker · 30/06/2017 16:21

This lunchtime, I got two burgers which I had there and then. I also got chicken selects for later (ie mid-afternoon). Bite me Grin

Singyourheartout · 30/06/2017 17:06

Honestly! My mum did this for us! And it was amazing! We are perfectly healthy, no healthy conditions.
We used to eat very healthy the rest of the time and got lot of exercise.
I just had a full medical for part of my job and I'm perfectly fine. :)

Marymoosmum14 · 30/06/2017 17:30

Its fine. He is active enough, it is a weekly treat.

Pallisers · 30/06/2017 17:32

one day I will go to America and try out your food

I've been.

It's shite.

I live here. There are restaurants serving lovely food. I've eaten in a couple of places featured in diners/drive-ins/dives (and this show is not about high class cuisine but local, cheap enough food, lots of it ethnic) and they were really excellent - better than average diners.

You just managed to go to exclusively shite restaurants.

I was at my ds sports class last week , hes 4 1/2 and a couple of the mum's asked what toy he had . I said it was from mcds and that he'd been really good all week and so let him go as a treat. They looked shocked and said they hadn't gone yet with theirs (same age) but guess it's because I have an older ds! .... No, it's because I don't think there's anything wrong with it as a treat!

Lallypop · 30/06/2017 17:38

I do the same after my daughters trampolining lessons, once a week. But I feel so guilty about it.

toria6118 · 30/06/2017 17:40

Kfc, mc d's or chinese every friday here! My ds looks forward to his friday treat, and i do aswell if im honest..

plumtreelane · 30/06/2017 17:42

A McDonald's after swimming is the BEST, swimming makes you so so hungry, I love the smell of cafes in swimming pools, really reminds me of sitting waiting for chicken nuggets, ravenous with wet hair
YANBU.

philoSlothical17 · 30/06/2017 17:43

Also I was never allowed them as a child unless it was a birthday party (80's child!) and we ate reaaonably healthy but was diagnosed with a chronic bowel disease at 17 after years of problems and had half my intestine removed

UnaPalomaBlanca · 30/06/2017 17:59

Of course it's fine. If he's a competitive swimmer he will be burning 600 calories per training session.
Obviously, nutritionally, it offers very little goodness but, as you say, he is eating well otherwise.
If he becomes an elite swimmer I'm sure he would be advised to cut the junk... but swimming takes such energy, will power and dedication, the occasional convenience food will do no harm whatsoever.

somewheresomehow · 30/06/2017 17:59

Why feel guilty about giving your child food if they are hungry

^^ lallypop all right its fried food but its just cooked food, hot and tasty. No need for the guilt trip

MusicForTheJiltedGeneration · 30/06/2017 18:01

YABU if there is a KFC nearby but other than that it's fine.

This lunchtime, I got two burgers which I had there and then. I also got chicken selects for later (ie mid-afternoon). Bite me

I'd rather not, sounds like you'd bleed grease after that lot!

dorisdog · 30/06/2017 18:02

I always hated McDonalds and was a bit freaked out when my 15yr old DD told me she goes thereally after school every Thursday. Seems like it's changed a lot though and she eats a chicken wraps with salad. I suspect they've overhauled their menus over the years.

Turquoise123 · 30/06/2017 18:02

am struggling to see any issue here ?

AC14MUZ · 30/06/2017 18:07

My Mum never allowed me to have fast food, sweets, chocolate, crisps you name it! It was healthy all the way. I'm now 33 and obease, easily 4 stone over weight and only 5ft. I have serious issues with food because of how restrictive my mum was when I was growing up. Considering your DS is training and balanced the other days I personally think it's a good thing!! But that's just me :)

rubyfeet · 30/06/2017 18:07

Why are you asking if you just want affirmation and for everyone to say it is okay. Personally, I would try and find other treats, I don't think it is helpful to encourage children to develop a taste for junk food etc. Surely there's more healthy treats he can have?

Deathbycupcake · 30/06/2017 18:07

I think it's fine and also it is teaching him that he is allowed treats just not all the time..... kids that are never allowed anything at all are always the ones who go mad unsupervised at birthday party food tables 😂 it is a nice treat to look forward to after his swimming ☺️

Fortifiedwithvitaminsandiron · 30/06/2017 18:17

I swam competitively until I was 16. The joy of being allowed a KFC or chippy tea on my way home from Friday night training every week was the highlight of my week!!! Nothing wrong with it at all xx

38cody · 30/06/2017 18:19

We do this weekly.
Just because I don't like to cook on a Friday and it's cheap and the kids love it and are healthy weights.
If looking only as evening meal percentage then its 14% of weekly main meals which does sound a lot but mine have a good breakfast and a cooked lunch so over all it's 4.7% of their weekly meals that are McDonalds if consuming it once per week.
Oh dear - I thought it was fine but that seems quite a lot.
Slightly bothered but not enough to want to cook tonight so Golden Arches after Judo pick up it is!!!

AndTakeYourHorseWithYou · 30/06/2017 18:19

Surely there's more healthy treats he can have?

What would you suggest?
