ATBU? Tories and DUP in favour of freezing public sector pay

So, the Tories along with their cash rich friends the DUP have just voted down Labour's amendment (supported by every other MP) to end the public sector pay freeze.

So they can find £1bn to keep themselves in power but can't find anything to pay our firefighters, nurses, police force or teachers more?

TABU aren't they?

tickingtgebox completely gets it.

I was about to move on to kitten-stomping when my clock told me I had to go, so I'm really glad someone else pointed out the inevitability of the vote. Which is not the same as thinking it A Good Thing.

I don't get how they work out the banding for NHS staff either, why is an admin assistant band 4 whilst an auxiliary is band 2? The band 2 is out working with the patients of out in the community with a massive amount of responsibility e.g., taking bloods, doing dressings etc

PookieDo · 30/06/2017 15:06

Well because of responsibility. A band 4 may not be skilled in patient care skills but they are responsible for managing people
A band 3/4 may be taking blood/changing catheters/administering medications and a band 2 would need training to move up bands to do so.

As a senior admin in the NHS I have relatively a lot of responsibility

PookieDo · 30/06/2017 15:08

A band 2 would not be out doing jobs out of their remit. A qualified nurse would be responsible for their workload and training

I'm happy to try explain: i have budgets, staffing, HR responsibility, more autonomy

You can train up as a HCA to a band 4
