Or is toast with honey a perfectly acceptable breakfast for a 4yo?

Just that, really. DD(4) is asking for toast with honey for breakfast. DH is telling her she can't have it. I ask why, he says it's just pure sugar and looks at me like I've got two heads. Surely toast with honey is a perfectly normal breakfast option? It's not like she eats it every day (or in fact ever before).

DH is foreign, if that makes a difference. He has some really weird (to me) ideas about what is and isn't an acceptable meal Hmm

But the OP asked if it is a perfectly acceptable breakfast, implying it was a regular thing, and I dont think that it is. If she had said "as an occasional treat for breakfast" then fine. But she didnt.

But.....but.....in the opening post she clearly states her daughter has never had honey on toast before! 😅

FizbotheClown · 28/06/2017 17:49

Depends on the rest of the day. I think you could eat toast and honey with a teaspoon of sugar every day and still be incredibly healthy if the rest of the day was balanced.

Scrumpernickel · 28/06/2017 17:50

It is Winnie the Pooh who was a bear of very little brain.

Poor Winnie. So fastidious about wearing a jumper but less fastidious about covering his furry unmentionables.

Stopnamechanging · 28/06/2017 17:51

Scrumpernickel it couldn't have been clearer could it?!

BasketOfDeplorables · 28/06/2017 17:53

He was completely naked in the books, Scrump. Is that better or worse?

PyongyangKipperbang · 28/06/2017 17:55

So what?! It doesnt alter the fact that the question suggested it as a regular option rather than an occasional treat.

ImNegan · 28/06/2017 17:58

That's a totally acceptable breakfast. YANBU

Giddyaunt18 · 28/06/2017 17:58

It isn't even that bad if it was every day!!! If it is on a wholemeal bread then her breakfast is giving her so many nutrients. Would rather give her that every day than a bowl of so many cereals!

TizzyDongue · 28/06/2017 17:58

Did Paddington and Winnie share a brain? Wonder if Yogi got in the act too, he was a bit daft wasn't he? Gentle Ben was smart enough though wasn't he?

Did Gentle Ben eat honey or marmalade? Might be onto something here.

What do you mean 'so what'? The whole point of MN is that we read the OP's post and then discuss/squabble about that. Or have I missed something and are we meant to base everything on the the thread title alone?

Scrumpernickel · 28/06/2017 18:03

I think book nudity is better than half coy/half brazen cartoon Pooh. Maybe it was his new American cartoon persona that caused him to try and half heartedly cover up.

SwissChristmasMuseum · 28/06/2017 18:04

Taken out of context like that, it really is impossible to tell if it's ok or not. One would need to know what else she generally has. Which might be where the DH is coming from?

ComputerUserNotTrained · 28/06/2017 18:05

Toast and honey as an occasional "treat" is pretty fucking miserable tbh. What kind of weird, ascetic approach insists that every breakfast, lunch and dinner has to be "balanced" and "natural"?

A lazy, dirty breakfast (a perk for having to leave the house at hell o'clock perhaps) would be a double sausage McMuffin meal on the road.

A treat would be eggs benedict and champagne. Nutritionally probably fine and dandy but hardly practical on an average workday morning.

BasketOfDeplorables · 28/06/2017 18:06

I think you're onto something on the cartoon nudity. Donald Duck only wore a top but wrapped a towel round his waist after the bath!

FizbotheClown · 28/06/2017 18:07

A 10 year old can eat 24g of sugar a day.

All those loading up on fruit.Bananas are actually really sweet.A teeny tiny banana has 10g of sugar in it which is more than s teaspoon of honey. You're supposed to limit fruit in the 10 a day I'm guessing all the nutrition police on here are obviously consuming.

Eh? She never implied it, in fact quite the opposite! Read the OPs first post again!

SwissChristmasMuseum · 28/06/2017 18:07

Why is natural food ascetic? That pretty much sums up the whole problem. That attitude is what hinders people who are trying to do the best for their DC. And, indirectly, for the NHS!

The OPs first post. Confused

SwissChristmasMuseum · 28/06/2017 18:09

Anyway, wholemeal bread with honey is natural...

Excellent thread!

True!

Maybe the wet feathers exposed his duck nuggets!

plumtreelane · 28/06/2017 18:14

It's also worth bearing in mind that younger kids eating wholemeal everything and plenty of fruit and vegetables may be getting too much fibre.

My god you can't win can you. Some of you are on a different planet to me, I'd never consider honey on toast as an "occasional treat" but more of a normal breakfast. Some of you are obsessed with protein.

I'm down with @ComputerUserNotTrained, just enjoy your food pleeeaze.

BasketOfDeplorables · 28/06/2017 18:20

That was me Plumtree - I'm in the eat a generally good diet and don't demonise anything camp and this was in response to the 'shitty white bread' comments. I think food is to be enjoyed so I think we would probably agree.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 28/06/2017 18:21

First you all ruin Winnie The Pooh for me by telling me he is no longer.

Then you make Donald Duck all filthy.

TequilaSunshine · 28/06/2017 18:22
