To be astonished that I have only just discovered this about the film Clueless?

It's "I'm Audi" (as in the car) and not "I'm outtie" (as in 'I'm out of here') Shock My mind is blown. I feel like I have to rush home and put on a copy of it with subtitles on as proof. Or Am I just stupid and did everybody else know this already? Blush

No, I found out when I watched it with subtitles. But tbh outtie makes more sense as they use it when they're leaving. Is there some advertisement ref I am missing?

ophiotaurus · 27/06/2017 16:52

I thought it was outtie! Weird!

KatoPotato · 27/06/2017 16:53

I knew this because Smash Hits did a Clueless special page with a whole list of the lingo!

KatoPotato · 27/06/2017 16:53

But to clarify, it did mean 'out of here'

ElBandito · 27/06/2017 16:57

Isn't that just after girl A tells the Cher that she's " a virgin that can't even drive" so she's showing off that she, Girl A, can drive an Audi when Cher can't? Must admit I'd thought it was 'outtie' but Audi would make sense.
Wish I could remember the name of Girl A now...
And am slightly ashamed I can remember the lines...

Madeyemoodysmum · 27/06/2017 16:59

glitterglitters · 27/06/2017 17:00

ShockShockShock

Do you live under a rock?

glitterglitters · 27/06/2017 17:00

Said in the nicest way hehe Smile

PenguinOfDoom · 27/06/2017 17:02

Girl A = Tai, played by the now-deceased Brittany Murphy.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 27/06/2017 17:21

Whaaaaaaaaat? Outtie makes way more sense!

AllTheWittyNamesAreGone · 27/06/2017 17:23

'Your a virgin that can drive'
This is still mine and my sister's favourite insult to each other.
Cracking film

EB123 · 27/06/2017 17:23

I never knew this and I have seen it so many times!

craftsy · 27/06/2017 17:27

I thought the thread was going to be surprise that the movie is an Austen update.

Chloe84 · 27/06/2017 17:30

So did I craftsy!

I was all set to sneer at the OP (Wink) , instead I have to sneer at myself.

AdalindSchade · 27/06/2017 17:31

But what does I'm Audi mean?

ElBandito · 27/06/2017 17:32

Just had to google Brittany Murphy, had no idea she had died. How strange and very sad Sad

ChildishGambino · 27/06/2017 17:33

I used to say to my best friend, "You're just a virgin who can't drive", when she was a virgin and couldn't drive. Still a classic and she's still my best friend.

ElBandito · 27/06/2017 17:37

But what does I'm Audi mean
It means that Tai isn't a virgin WinkShock and can drive. I think as she says it she jangles her car keys a bit at Cher.

AgathaCrispie · 27/06/2017 17:38

She says it till Dee, not Tai, and it's nowhere near the 'virgin who can't drive' bit. Google confirms it's "Audi" but not what it means. I don't get it!

AgathaCrispie · 27/06/2017 17:42

Actually I think Tai says it to Cher after the non-driving virgin bit, but the first time it's used is by Cher to Dee when she's having an argument with Murray.

AgathaCrispie · 27/06/2017 17:42

I may have seen this film one too many times. I still don't get the expression.

ElBandito · 27/06/2017 17:43

Yes, you are right it comes up in the film twice doesn't it.

MissionItsPossible · 27/06/2017 17:44

Well Audi is the name of a car so unless she means I'm Audi/I'm outtie as in I'm driving away out of him (metaphorically) but outtie does make sense! Glad I'm not the only Clueless (heh) one!

Chloe Sneer at yourself and hang your head in shame! Wink
