To be astonished that I have only just discovered this about the film Clueless?

It's "I'm Audi" (as in the car) and not "I'm outtie" (as in 'I'm out of here') My mind is blown. I feel like I have to rush home and put on a copy of it with subtitles on as proof. Or Am I just stupid and did everybody else know this already?

The term originated in the hip hop world in the mid to late 80's and was a play on words or reference to the Audi 5000 vehicle which at the time was accused of having an unintended acceleration issue. Owners were claiming that just starting the car and putting it in drive or reverse caused the car to take off, hence "Audi/Outtie 5000, a way of saying, "I'm gone".

The very talented Nora Ephron wrote the screenplay and was absolutely brilliant IMHO.

Love this film. My favourite bit is when Cher manages to get her marks increased and her dad tells her he couldn't be prouder if they were her actual grades!
